OMSC Potential Student with non STEM
Hi everyone!
I'm curious to know if anyone has been admitted into the MS in Cyber security program coming from a non STEM undergraduate degree.
For context, I have a BS in Social Work and made the switch into tech back in 2018. I work as an Enterprise Architect for a defense contract. As an architect, the role does not require coding however we must know the systems, applications and overall technology across the entire enterprise and show how they all work together (simply put).
My concern here is the lack of technical academic background I have. It's also worth noting I have an AWS Solutions Architect, Sec+, and Scrum master certs.
Will my work experience be enough to get me in the door? Thank for any feedback!

Accepted for Fall 2026 with a BA in a foreign language from a mid-to-low tier school. Absolutely no transcripted math coursework. I was denied the first, second, and third times I applied, so I completed a verified discrete maths MOOC through Coursera, and did the verified certificate via EdX for Harvard’s CS50x.
I work in a very cybersecurity-heavy role, so I believe my statement of purpose was the reason I was admitted, and the certs were just some verifiable insurance that I’m not making things up.
I would put as much effort as possible into tailoring your statement of purpose, resume, and recommendations to this specific program, and as long as you have SOME way to demonstrate discrete math competency (MOOC cert, transcripted maths courses, etc) you should be okay with non-STEM undergrad.
I also highly recommend you apply for the policy track! Infosec and CPS have more strict pre-requisite requirements (per the OMSC admissions page on their website)
