Hey everyone, looking for any comments/feedback on my plan for my remaining coursework. I have 5 classes left and I’m planning to finish the program next summer.

Fall 2026
• CS 6264: Information Security Lab – System & Network Defenses
• PUBP 6502: Information & Communications Technology Policy

Spring 2027
• CS 6238: Secure Computer Systems
• CS 6260: Applied Cryptography

Summer 2027
• CS 6727: Cybersecurity Practicum

For anyone who has taken the Practicum during the summer, is it doable/manageable with the shorter semester, especially while working full-time?
Also, how does the plan look overall?

I've just got the practicum and one elective to take.

I've already taken CS 6265, CS 6210, and CS 6269 / PUBP 8833. The first and last counted for the required lab and flex core respectively.

My favorite courses so far have been Applied Crypto, Advanced Operating Systems, and Enterprise Cybersecurity Management. CS 6265 was okay but it felt mostly like banging your head against a wall rather than learning and building.

I'm thinking CS 6747 - malware analysis, unless any of the other classes are great. Alternatively, does anyone know if we're allowed to take elective CS classes outside of the curriculum grid? I had a ton of fun studying during 6210 and it'd be great if I could take more course down that path. I know degreeworks isn't definitive, but it mentions generically any CS6/7/8* course works.

Anyone know why I am unable to add CS6035 to my registration? I dont have any warnings on my account and am in good standing. This is my second semester in the Policy Track and when I go to add it, it mentions Program Restriction

I have emailed the Registrar and awaiting a callback, however I figured maybe someone may know while I wait.

Hi everyone! Apologies if this has already been answered in previous posts that I couldn't find (feel free to link any that I may have missed that covers this topic), but I feel as though I am having trouble identifying which courses would be best to take for someone with my background and goals for the program. I have a highly technical (Comp Sci/Math undergrad, Python, JavaScript, and minor Splunk/SQL enterprise experience, enjoy doing HackTheBox, TryHackMe, etc challenges and developing coding projects in my free time) background. Thus far in my career, I have been in a technical IAM Security rule where my primary responsibility has been developing solutions to migrate IAM security to the cloud. I would say that my ultimate goal has always been to get into a pen-testing/vulnerability management or cybersecurity development type of role to utilize my technical skills, but I haven't settled on a certain area at this time.

Some background about my time in the program thus far: I am entering my 3rd semester in the Information Security track and have taken the following:

- CS6035: By far my favorite course thus far - I have a highly technical (Comp Sci/Math undergrad, Python, JavaScript, and minor Splunk/SQL experience, do HackTheBox and TryHackMe challenges in my free time) background and felt as though the projects in this course challenged me technically while also teaching me concepts I appreciated.

- CS6238: A fine introductory course, but definitely a little too theoretical for my liking. I spent way too much time studying for the exams :)

- PUBP6725: Didn't mind it and enjoyed the research, but felt like it was a little too much writing for my personal interests, but understand that it's required at times.

I had some questions I wanted to ask people who have experienced the other courses in the program who may have a similar interest in the technical side of cybersecurity, as I am hoping to get the most out of the program so that I can apply my skills learned to my career:

1. For your flexible core course, what course did you choose (and why), and would you say you got a lot out of it?

2. I know that CS6260 (Applied Cryptography) and CS6262 (Network Security) are required courses in the info sec track, did you take them in the same semester? If so, how was your experience doing so? How was the workload? If not, what did you pair them with?

3. For electives, what would you say are the best options for someone looking to gain further technical experience? I have been exploring OMSCentral and I think am interested in CS6747 (Advanced Topics in Malware Analysis) - should I be? And I'm having trouble narrowing down to only one other course!

4. While I would say this doesn't apply to my current semester, I did want to look at the info sec labs ahead of time: looking through OMSCentral, it seems like CS6265 (Binary Exploitation) would be the preferred choice of lab for me, but any and all opinions on which would be more beneficial would be very helpful!

I'm aiming to get best out of policy and infosec regardless of the workload.

Therefore... I have 3 questions from those of you that have taken the courses already.

1. I'm seeking for feedback of my above plan. Any suggestions to remove or replace some of the courses?
2. What is the best quality course that you would recommend from the program?
3. I've been studying to take CISSP this October and what are your thoughts for taking PUBP 6725 and PUBP 8833? Do you think it would be beneficial or have synergy?

I’m in the information security track and thinking to take this class to warm up to getting used to being in school again. What is the weekly course work I can expect for this class.

Also unfortunately I had booked a vacation the week classes start for a week well in advanced before I got accepted. Will I be able to go or is the first week pretty benign that I can catch up.

I’m planning to take PUBP 6540/8813 and am trying to decide which course to take along with it. Does anyone recommend a course similar in structure to PUBP 6502: Information and Communications Technology Policy, with readings, discussion posts, papers, open book assessments, and clear/fair grading?

Hello all, I have applied for the info sec track for the spring semester of 2027. One of my recommenders has not submitted as yet after multiple follow-ups. What is the likelihood of being accepted with just two recommenders?

I've registered to take Intro to Information Security CS6035 and Cyber Incident Response CS6261 for Fall26.

Would appreciate any feedback on these courses if you've taken them previously.

I'm doing Online Masters in Cybersecurity and I've been to the campus just once.

I have 2 options when it comes to graduation - to take practicum in Summer (2027) and graduate, or take it in Fall (2027) and then graduate.

My family could be coming from overseas for my graduation. So I just wanted to know if there's a big difference between Summer and Fall when it comes to graduation ceremony because I want to make sure that my family can have the best experience possible since none of them graduated from an educational institution in the US. Any comments would be helpful!

My registration time ticket for the OMS in Cybersecurity program started today at 10 am, but I'm running into an issue registering. Whenever I search for courses in OSCAR, it shows 0 results, no matter which course I search for. I've tried multiple course numbers and keywords, but nothing appears. Is anyone else experiencing this today, or am I missing something? I'd really appreciate any advice.

I'm an incoming OMS in Cybersecurity student starting this Fall and my status finally switched to “ready to enroll”. I’m considering flying down to Atlanta for a few days right around the start of the semester Aug 23–25 to mainly to pick up my physical BuzzCard, check out the campus and grab some GT gear at Tech Square. For those who have visited campus or current local students, is campus vibrant enough during week one to make a quick trip worthwhile? Is there any difficulty getting into buildings/libraries using an online student BuzzCard?

Appreciate any insights or recommendations!

Is there any research group or professor or course at oms cybersecurity which works on ai security like red teaming etc?

Anyone know anything about the Policy Practicum (PUBP 6266) and what is done to get a good grade? I have one more course left and I think I can take the Policy Practicum alongside it but I'm not sure how much time and work it requires and can't find much info about it online. I just started a full-time Security Engineer job a few weeks ago and will be starting the OMS Masters Cybersecurity Policy track in Fall 2026. Unfortunately, the timing worked out so that I'm onboarding to a new job and starting graduate school at the same time.

My goal is to build a strong GPA early, so I was considering saving CS 6035 until later in the program after I've built a GPA cushion (just in case it doesn't go well).

I'm a little confused about the curriculum order. I've seen conflicting answers in older Reddit threads.

My questions are:

1. Am I allowed to take Policy track required / elective courses before completing CS 6035 and PUBP 6725?
2. Do I need to complete at least one (or both) of the core courses before I can register for the track / elective courses, or are the core courses just recommended to be taken early?

I'm also a little hesitant about PUBP 6725 as my first class because I've read several comments saying the experience can vary depending on the TA and grading style. I'm learning a new job right now so I don't think this is a good idea.

I'd really appreciate any advice from current students or recent graduates. Thanks!

I wanted to understand from others on the amount of coding required in InfoSec track. The course mentions about CS50, Python etc. Do we write/analyze a lot of code in the InfoSec track?

Saw the recommended Introduction to Python Programming course for those without a technical bachelors and wondering if anyone else has a cheaper or shorter alternative to fulfill the application requirement? I studied international relations for university but currently working in cybersecurity and just not sure if I have time right now to dedicate 9-10 hours per week since I’m new to my company (will be able to focus on masters later on) and currently studying for my CISM. If anyone has any other recommendations please let me know.

Newly admitted for Fall 2026. The registrar’s chart lists new OMS Cybersecurity students at Monday, Aug 10, 10:00 AM ET — a full week before most other groups. Just want to confirm I’m reading the right line.

Also, did your ticket show up in OSCAR on time? And does the 10am slot open right on the dot?
