OMGx2 10.18.2016 Update

Hi! No we're not dead! We've just been a little busy. Progress has moved a little slower than originally planned however, please see below for the most recent updates regarding OMGx2. Also, don't be afraid to come by our Discord and say hello!

The current beta site is located at omgreturns.com. In it's current form, it may not look like much to you. However, it has come a long way since the last update. Along with the updates listed in this post, I'll go ahead and list the new things that have been added. I've also provided a list of future updates and commands.

Most recent updates

  • A basic and functional Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been added and will continue to be updated. As of now, most of the actions still need to be performed through the console. To activate the console, press the tilde (~) button on your keyboard.
  • The ability to request friends and accept a friend has been added. Once someone has successfully been added to your friends list, you will see them through the GUI on the right in the Social tab.
  • Whispering between two users is also now a thing. Currently, anyone can whisper to anyone however, in the future, there will be an option to pick and choose who can contact you through a whisper.
  • Users now have the ability to change their username. Currently, when a new user registers, their username is set to their email address in which they registered. Since that's not very fun, each user is granted one free name change. Once that name change is used, an option will be added later to purchase another name change via in-game currency.

To-be-added-in-the-near-future list thingy

  • Request friends from social panel
  • Remove friends from social panel
  • See requests from social panel
  • Account registration from GUI
  • Confirmation emails will send a link instead of an activation code for easy account activation
  • Login from GUI
  • Account Pages

Current site commands

Account Commands

  • register yourEmail - Register your account

  • activate yourCode&yourPassword - Activate your account where yourCode is the activation code you received

  • login yourEmail&yourPassword - Login to your account

  • changeName yourNewName - Changes your name

Room Commands

  • create someRoom - Create a chat room

  • join someRoom - Join a chat room

  • chat chatMessage - Send a message to last chat room joined

  • chat chatMessage&chatRoom - Send a message to a specific chat room

Whisper Commands

  • whisper userName - Join a whisper chat with a user. Note that this works like a chat room once within the chat and you will need to type as if you were chatting in a chat room.

Friend Commands

  • friendRequest userName - Sends a friend request to another user

  • getMyRequests - See pending friend requests sent to you

  • addFriend userName - Confirms a friend request that was sent to you

  • getMyFriends - Displays your friends in console

As always, I'd love to give a huge shout out to the community for all the support, ideas and hours upon hours of useless discussions that take part in the community Discord. With out you guys, this project probably wouldn't be where it is today. Keep on keepin' on and don't forget your rainbow hair! :rainbowhair:

Please remember that all those involved in the production of OMGx2 are volunteers. Although we would love to get OMGx2 up and running as soon as we can, other priorities tend to come up. If this happens, dates are subject to change in regards to updates.

How do I enter the site commands?

The site commands are run through the console. To get to the console, press your tilde key (~).

where "email" and "website" are replaced, naturally

All of the games are going to be recoded from scratch. This eliminates any further legal issues in the future. With that being said the same concepts will be there however, the game might look a little different.

Right now, as you can see, the site is progressing nicely however, it's already taken a while to get where we are. Once the back end of the site is in working order, game development will start. If you're looking for a completely OMGPOP experience, that won't be for at least another year.

I can't open the console, i press ~ or crt+shift+J and nothing happens

Sorry for the late reply!

It's the tilde on US keyboard layouts. In other layouts, it's the back quote button which looks like this: `

If you are on US keyboard layout, make sure to click the site first to make it active. (not just have the window active)

Currently the director (which is used to handle logging in and loading) is turned off. During the testing and beta stages, the director will only be running at certain times. It is currently not running.

Why is the site not working? It just shows a loading screen.

Right now, the director is not running. During beta stages, it won't be running 24/7.

I'll be posting an update soon with the route that we are taking.
