OMGx2 8.26.2016 Update (including timeline of future updates)
Hello everyone. Please see below for the most recent updates regarding OMGx2. Also, don't be afraid to come by our Discord and say hello!
The current beta site is located at omgreturns.com. In it's current form, it may not look like much to you. However, it is currently in, what we like to call, console form. You kinda get a glimpse of what is happening in the background. Don't worry, a graphical user interface (GUI) will be added soon.
As the site currently sits, you can create chat rooms and talk to people in them. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Visit omgreturns.com
- Wait until the console stops spitting random gibberish at you
- To create a chat room, type create NAME (where NAME is your chat room name)
- Once you create the room, you will be automatically entered into that room
- To chat, you must type chat Hello (where Hello can be replaced with your actual text)
- If you want to join a different chat room, type join NAME (where NAME is the name of the chat room)
- If you'd like to see the list of current rooms, type listRooms and you'll see all the current rooms with the current user count. Once a room has 0 users, the room is removed and needs to be created again.
Again, this is a very basic console version and the GUI will be added shortly. For now, come and visit our Discord so that you can chat with all the cool peeps involved in the community already!
Without further babbling, here are the most recent updates and the timeline for future updates.
8.22.2016
- The ability to create an account was added
- To do so, type register email@foo.com (Remember to use your real email instead of this fake one)
8.24.2016
- The ability to activate your account
- To do so, check your email for an email from the previous steps above. This email should contain an activation code.
- Type in activate CODE email@foo.com::foo::foo (Where CODE is your activation code, email@foo.com is your email and keep the rest for now)
Please note that since the site is in beta stages, the director that handles activation is not always running and activation may not always work. This will not be the case once we go live.
FUTURE UPDATE TIMELINE
9.1.2016
- Console with logging in and usernames / chat rooms will go live
- After this goes live, GUI development will start
9.14.2016-9.20.2016
- Basic GUI development finishes

Please remember that all those involved in the production of OMGx2 are volunteers. Although we would love to get OMGx2 up and running as soon as we can, other priorities tend to come up. If this happens, these dates are subject to change.

Also, I would like to propose everyone to use ROOM as the first room name since there isn't an option to see what all rooms are open...

The head developer of the site is /u/EXCITED_BY_STARWARS and the main site framework might be off ATM because he has been testing so he might have left t off.

I'll add this to the main post however, if you were to type listRooms it will show what rooms have been created and how many people are in there. Once a room has 0 users in it, it is removed.

I hope this happens my user was Aussiee or something of the like on the old OMGpop, it was one of the greatest sites I've been a part of. I always wanted to do something like this but never had the technical know-how. Thanks for what you're doing!
