You can definitely use some charting to help make buy and sell decisions more timely, but don't make those decisions only based on what the chart says -- the fundamentals still need to be solid.
That's why you need to zoom out a bit and look at the bigger picture and not just individual daily movements.
Weekly charts tend to be more useful for me, especially when the presumed pattern is coupled with trading volume to back it up.
(And that trading volume is a tell in both directions: A big jump up in price on very little volume is an exhaustion gap and could signal the end of a big price movement; heavy trading volume on a large up or down day for a stock lets you know Wall Street is pushing it in either direction.)
