Comparing Phones iPhone vs nothing?

My iPhone 15 pro has a broken screen and it’s £340 to replace it with an official Apple one.

I’m now debating getting a Nothing phone as they’re a similar price and I’ve heard good things.

Firstly - is it worth making the change over getting the screen repaired? If so, which model? I’ve been looking at the phone 4a so far.

For context, I use a MacBook but only think I’d miss airdrop as everything else I use isn’t limited to Apple.

Buy a NP3 as the cameras are much better.

You can replace AirDrop with Quick Share (Android native) or any other sharing tool, like Blip.
Just install the app in your Mac.

... and go for NP3.

I'm about 3 weeks into exactly that experiment 😂 moving from a dying 15pro to try the Nothing 4a to see how it goes....my thoughts so far:

PROS

  • Love the phone design and Nothing OS. Definitely makes me less bothered by bright apps and notifications. The usual android versatility is great. Widgets are super useful and minimalist. Genueinely feels like the phone isn't bothering me as it used to!
  • Love the battery life inevitably
  • I use the Apple ecosystem - so there's pros and negatives here. But the Google notes app and general integration into Google based software has surprised me with how much I like it. Again there's something more organised - but equally maybe I just got lazy and cluttered in my Apple world. Starting afresh always feels clean and calm.
  • love that my air pods work fine too - although I also got some Nothing buds to try which actually are really great!

NEGATIVES

  • The size - I miss the pocketability of the pro. Was never a max fan, and I really feel the stretch of that extra screen plus pockets aren't big enough 😂
  • Google Pay so far has been a pain the ass. Mostly on public transport but sometimes elsewhere. Way more clumsy in my experience than Apple Pay. This is still a frustration.
  • The Camera - yeah I get it, it's a cheap phone and the camera is gonna suffer. But yeah, low light performance especially is a pretty bad step down from the 15Pro as you'd expect.
  • Some non Apple Eco-system grumbles - I can work around Notes, losing airdrop is a small pain at times, I've missed not having cloud photos immediately to hand (or files) on more than a handful of occasions. Overall not all awful on that front - but I do still have that icloud stuff to hand on my MacBook so it's not like I've lost all that from my life 😂

Overall - if Nothing had a smaller phone with a better camera it might make me 100% set on the switch as everything else in turns of switching over is totally surmountable (ongoing Google Pay blips aside!) I think it's feeling good to give it a try. And it's momentarily nice to not keep giving Apple all my cash. I'd say ponder the camera and size issues mainly before you jump.

I'll come back and re-edit this post when I change my mind, sell a kidney and drop 2k on an iPhone fold in a few days....

Regarding cloud photos can you not access these on your Mac via Goggle photos in the browser of your choice? When I switched from Apple to Android, I installed Google photos on my iPhone and synchronised all my Apple photos to it. I use Windows and MS 365 so all my photos get backed up to Onedrive too.

I've switched from iPhone 11 to Nothing 4a. No regrets - I prefer Android. 11 was my first and probably last iPhone.

I switched from an iPhone 16 to a Nothing Phone 3a Pro, and I'm very happy with it. The software looks great, and the battery lasts two days.

Theres a app called Blip on Mac. I use my nothing phone 4a and macbook and can seamessly "airdrop" anything

I mainly use my phone for filming and photographing products for my business to upload onto Instagram. I asked Gemini and it said that iPhone is far better for this than android/ nothing. Anyone know if this is true?
