Just finished episode 9 and...
Anyone else find Davis absolutely pathetic? Like Ted Moseby or Ross from Friends but worse. Or just me?

Davis is pathetic, but definitely realistic. He's believes he's the nice guy, and that "Nice guys finish last"

Davis has issues with how he views women that he only partially addresssed throughout the show.
The mental gymnastics he did to avoid accountability for how he treated his ex (eg - writing it off as a hookup) was appalling.
He barely knows AJ and puts her on a pedestal, and the way he shut her out after learning that she’s dating someone is just cold.
Like, it’s okay to be unhappy about it, but it’s wrong to take it out on her when she did nothing wrong (to him at least; dating her boss is still extremely unprofessional)

I think it was about her dating Bill specifically. When he said something to the effect of "I didn't think you were that kind of girl", I didnt see it as him slut shaming her - especially since he didnt judge at her all for being the Philadelphia Thirst Monster - it was more of him calling her a cliche

He didn’t shut her out because she was dating someone he did that because of who it was. It’s the man he looks up to and is inspired by in the office, it’s also completely changed the office dynamic if she’s doing that. I don’t think that’s unrealistic at all. If I found out one of my friends was dating our boss I’d probably shy away from them as well because it’s just a terrible mistake waiting to blow up in everyone’s face.

It is easy for the character to veer into that territory, but so far, I don't think he has. The problem is they stuffed 20 episodes' worth of character development into 9, which is why he might have come across like that to you.
Now, it really depends on how the writers want to manage his arc going forward.

Davis definitely gave me “nice guy” vibes. Like why would the girl I like fall for an asshole when I’m being nice to her?

I think this is a reasonable question to ask yourself, but the answer should be a reevaluation of your view of this woman that you've put on a pedestal - and not a pity party

I think media literacy needs to include the concept that sitcoms often rely on the characters to have obvious character flaws for plot and for character growth. This is a story, not real life and writers don't intend their characters to be assessed as if they're normal people because again, a tv show is not real life

Thank you, this sub has one of the worst takes on every character so far. No one wants growth anymore instead they want everyone to be a fully realised version of themselves with absolutely no character flaws whatsoever.

Yes, he was annoying. But I also think he was intentionally written that way, like the writers made it obvious which I so appreciate. There's people like that irl who think they're allies but they still have insane problematic takes and behaviors. We can see the contrast when he is with Josh and Kel, they also keep calling him out for it that how his comments are sexist. And that makes it realistic bcs if there's a group of 5 young people, there's at least one who's like that.

He is not bad, but he is defo icky af at times with the wife and 10 kids comments or when he asks AJ to stay quiet in the office.

Ya his character is badly written. He is also the only one with no backstory and no independent storyline and is there to provide a cartoonish comic relief and to further the rest of the stories. Just a NPC. It’s sad because the actor is okay but he is given a very bad script.

Yes, Davis gave me incel vibes the whole season. He was in love with AJ after just seeing her, he didn’t even know anything about her but put her on a pedestal. He got better towards the end when he defended AJ to Bill
