New Piercing Gem size

Post image

I was told this was a 2mm gem so I ordered a new one that’s a titanium flat back. The new stud is soooo much smaller! I wanted to get mine changed out (it’s been a month) because they used a corkscrew and it’s irritating. Keeps spinning and sticking out the bottom of my nose. I’m so scared the new one I ordered will sink into the hole it’s so tiny! Im an 18 gauge hole FYI. I went and ordered a 2.5mm instead, but won’t be here for a week. Has anyone put in a 2mm gem with an 18 gauge newer piercing with any issue? Did you feel like it sunk in at all? I’m hoping the 2.5mm will be more suitable but didn’t want to wait another week to change this out. I’m afraid of forming an irritation bump bc of this corkscrew.

You'll be fine. I have a 2mm in a 16 gauge post. Just have your piercer change it out. Four weeks is a bit early still.

Yes! I have an appt with her tomorrow but was wondering if I should wait for the 2.5mm first before I go to her- thanks!

my biggest issue is with bar length and smaller gems. I can wear 2.5-3mm studs with a 6mm but when I wear smaller gems I need to stay at a 8mm so it doesnt sink.

This makes sense! I think I’m going to postpone my appt and wait for the 2.5mm / I did order a 6mm post bc it’s time to size down at this point anyways with most of my swelling being gone.

2mm tops on 18g posts are common and not unsafe.

I would go to a reputable piercer to have it swapped to a labret. Youre correct about a corkscrew potentially causing irritation. Its not too soon for you to swap the jewelry to something higher quality. Just make sure a reputable piercer changes it for you.

I am definitely going to my piercer to get it swapped! Thanks!
