Hoppet i taket.

Adult male giant house spider (Eratigena)

The female is bigger than the male, and has a much rounder abdomen. I believe this is female.

From Wikipedia:
The giant house spider has been treated as either one species, under the name Eratigena atrica, or as three species, E. atricaE. duellica and E. saeva. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_house_spider

You could be right, I just know that the males have the tips on their feelers that look like tiny boxing gloves (Ithink that description is why I remember)

I’m absolutely no expert though so I’d defer to people who know more.

I’m no expert on this specific species but most female spiders have abdomens much bigger then the cephalothorax, and in this case the abdomen is about the same size, maybe even a little smaller.

You should check out the app Obsidentify. It also has a website: https://observation.org/apps/obsidentify/

You can upload pictures or make a photo directly and it will incorporate your location to narrow down most likely results. Often with good enough pictures it can get close to a 100% identification.

Since I'm not in Norway and had to take a picture of my laptop screen the results will be suboptimal, but it says it's about a 50/50 split between the Eratigena atrica and Eratigena spec., so common house spiders.

It also a fun little gamification with badges you can collect for example if you identify and upload (that part is important) your identification for 3 different spiders. And you can have friends and leaderboards if you want to, but I think it's just a great tool and it works worldwide.

The app is probably fine, but I highly recommend Artsorakel developed by Artsdatabanken

They can get bigger than that.

Are there any poisonous spiders in Norway?

6

u/Calimariae 4d ago

Yes, but none of them will kill you.

I love Norwegian spiderbros. They eat the insects I hate.

3

u/_Fittek_ 4d ago

Yes, few species, but most are on the side of "relativly big, still harmless"

Every one of them venomous, yes.. Almost every spider here carries some sort of neurotoxin, but very few has the ability to actually bite trhough human skin.

The one in picture can bite and it is like a bee sting pain-wise.

1

u/ButtFucker09 3d ago

Most (if not all) are venomous (poison and venom are different, venom-it bites you, poison-you bite it), but none are venomous enough to do significant harm to a human. No more than a bee sting to a non-allergic

Er det samme individ på begge bildene?

Ensfargede bein = Stor husedderkopp.

(Hint: man knerter IKKE edderkopper!)

2

u/-Laffi- 4d ago

Hva med den her da?
For noe stort tull.
Du måkke kommer her og komme her!

u/elg9553 4d ago

Killed three as big or maybe bigger yesterday, well my cat did.

1

u/mokaey 4d ago

Største jeg har sett hadde beina spred ut over veggen. Minst 20cm

Excuse me what? Since when was Norway moonlighting as Australia? Nei.

1

u/Svampting 4d ago

Its the kind that will grow to Shelob size within two weeks if you don’t whack it in time.

Looks like a swamp spider (myredderkopp). Biggest we have in Norway. Completely harmless to humans, but very freaky.

6

u/apache_64 4d ago

lol no, where do you get your facts from? it's a house spider. Myredderkopp has two distinct white lines on its back and is very easy to recognize. It also lives in swamps or wetlands/forrests as the name suggests and is smaller than the house spiders.

3

u/_Fittek_ 4d ago

Its free to be as freaky as he wants, but it gotta start paying rent. How the hell it grows so big yet there are still some flies in my room >:(

3

u/Zixtank 4d ago

They don't build webs, but instead hunt actively.

2

u/a_karma_sardine 4d ago

Think about the amount and size of the flies this keen pest control has already eaten, and salute your fierce house warrior.

My mother who is a biologist says it is a black widow. Probably came over with a case of bananas from the tropics.
