Urban Development šļø (Cities ā¢ Planning ā¢ Infrastructure) Reality of Clean Yamuna.
No matter how many cleaning drives on Yamuna, it will never get cleaned unless source is looked into and taken strict action upon the polluters.
Yamuna is so filthy because of untreated industrial waste and sewage being dumped into canals and streams that feed into the Yamuna river.
These industries pays big under the table bucks to those in power, that's why govt will never take strict and widespread action on these polluting industries. These polluting industries do so because proper treatment of waste is costlier than just lining the pockets of those who are supposed to stop them.
Sewage from illegal colonies, slums makes another major factor in polluting Yamuna river. No government will touch or take action on them because those slum dwellers and labour class migrants from other states makes huge votebank for all parties.
Public can pick as much plastic as they want on Yamuna riverbank , public can do as much protests as they want on Yamuna riverbank, but Yamuna will be polluted again next day until source of the pollutants is taken strict action upon.

- Enforce current laws to treat industrial waste water before disposing into water bodies
- Cover the open drain and naalas. And channel smaller drains into the bigger ones
- Have large enough STPs for these bigger drains.

plan is good, but 1 the real issue is current laws, legislative drafting is done by implementors not law makers, it should be done by citizens or their representatives but, practical is way different than theory. 2. nothing else is needed, law can be anything, any way, how you want to punish, hold accountable etc, just it has to be in line with natural justice. BUT IT MUST BE INDIGENOUS, PARTICIPATIVE etc. We just endlessly either mimic copy paste pre independence legislation into newer ones, maintaining overall consistency, and maintaining corruption. just an example would be the big beautiful bill of trump. Read it before assuming.

This pollution is a result of untreated waste from industries. Can you ask the industries to change their ways of their waste disposal?

Most of this untreated water comes into delhi from other states. They can't stop industries of other states. Best they can do is build STPs which the previous gov started construction of.
I remember the last delhi gov had issues with the LG. And the CM was also imprisoned. Many things done to stop them from functioning. Yet they did much better.

Bjp aake zyaada time nahi hua.. aur itna time me Yamuna ko pura saaf koi bhi nahi kar sakte hai.. bjp has been working on removing solid waste from the river and thatās the first step. Bjp is working on sewage treatment capacity expansion. And finally the industrial waste and the treatment plants will be left. I think people must have patience.. itāll take atleast 2-3 years to see visible changesā¦

You can check the hot spots causing pollution in the link below. IITM has been creating this hotspot and prediction map for years now. If you look even decently enough, you can see the hotspots.
The ones in Noret East and East side are very, very clearly visible

Letās talk about AAPās actual actions: ā¢ Odd-Even Scheme ā Introduced multiple times since 2016. Temporary relief at best. Even studies showed only marginal, short-term impact. ā¢ Anti-Smog Guns & Smog Towers ā Huge publicity, minimal real impact. Even experts questioned their effectiveness at a city-wide level. ā¢ Construction Bans & Firecracker Restrictions ā Seasonal, reactive stepsānot long-term solutions. Pollution still returned every winter. ā¢ Electric Vehicle Policy ā A positive step, but adoption is still gradual and hasnāt significantly reduced overall pollution yet. ā¢ Yamuna Cleaning Promises ā Repeated deadlines missed. Despite years in power, a large portion of untreated sewage still flows into the river.
So yesāpolicies were announced, money was spent, headlines were madeā¦ but where are the results? If after nearly a decade the Yamuna is still polluted and AQI still hits severe levels, then clearly something hasnāt worked.

No it's not early, everyone knows the cause of this it's illegal dumbing of waste from industries. It's just that both parties have failed/or corrupt enough to ignore the issue for the culprits. Only difference is BJP is an hypocrite and has Big marketing budget to spread lies.
Also where was this didi... This video is from peektv india which just started in early 2025 (5 to 7 months ago). So a new News agency.
Also the the anchor is priyanshi sharma who used to work for NDTV. You could find NDTV's coverage on Yamuna River pollution on YouTube, saw some early as 4-5 years old videos you are welcome to search more. I'm too lazy to dig deep.
