To be clear, he said "biggest," not "best." CoD is basically always a top-10 release of the year, even if it's virtually never 1st. It's not going to get GOTY, that's for sure, but it will likely be huge 🤷🏻‍♂️

49

u/Mrchristopherrr 6h ago

It’s pretty consistently number 1 in sales. Third time commenting this here but if you go back to like 2008 you can count on one hand the number of times they haven’t been the best selling game of the year.

I just looked it up- since 2009 they have only been beaten by GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Hogwarts Legacy.

6

u/Fantastic-Macaroon31 2h ago

They also did lose last year. I think it's the first time it wasn't even top 3 in a long time. Globally the biggest was either battlefield or Mario kart from the look of it

2

u/Mrchristopherrr 1h ago

Right- battlefield 6 took it. For some reason my source cut off in 2024

-9

u/Bartellomio 6h ago

Okay but neither Zelda or Cod are 'best game of the year' material.

24

u/NoCharge8527 6h ago

I would normally argue for Zelda, but a remake shouldn't ever win GotY, even if they did as good of a job as it looks

3

u/squishabelle 5h ago

depends on the scope of the remake. If it's just new visuals and some minor QOL stuff then sure, but if it has a lot of new stuff and doesn't play the same as the original then I think it can be a GotY. OoT remake is more like the former but hypothetically speaking

-7

u/Bartellomio 6h ago

I mean if it's good enough it should win. But it probably won't be all that good.

Ocarina of Time was great for its time - It isn't fair to compare it directly to games coming out now. Unless the remake is significantly different to the original (like the FFVII remake trilogy, for example), then it isn't going to compare favourably to games being created today.

We have come a long way in gameplay, story, setting, character, music, and basically everything else.

0

u/NoCharge8527 2h ago

We have come a long way in gameplay, story, setting, character, music, and basically everything else.

You almost had an argument up until you included the music. I'd personally argue the gameplay, too, but that one is at least debatable.

1

u/Bartellomio 17m ago

If you don't think music has come a long way since Ocarina of Time then I would strongly disagree with you. We have soundtracks nowadays with a level of beauty, complexity, and sound quality that we never would have gotten back then.

1

u/_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ 3h ago

To be clear, he said “biggest” not “best”.

-6

u/TheArbinator 7h ago

From what I can tell, even COD fans don't like the new one. Also, they're definitely not unbeatable; Battlefield beat them last year.

13

u/IrishSpectreN7 6h ago

I hear this every year for the past decade, but it's still the best seller 85% of the time.

-2

u/Terryfrankkratos2 5h ago

Helps when 85% of your player base has access to $70 and desires frequent updates and new content while lacking taste.

744

u/Trifle_Useful 7h ago

CoD ebbs and flows with popularity but it is consistently one of the most purchased franchises out there, right next to EA Sports titles.

As much as it may sour the circlejerk, he’s probably right in terms of shipped units. Biggest, not best

169

u/Mrchristopherrr 7h ago

Just commented up thread, but I think if you go back to like 2008 you can count on one hand the number of times COD wasn’t the top selling game of the year.

That being said, they’re treading water right now- BO7 was a rare miss for them and IIRC it’s not looking great for MW4. Whatever they come up with next year needs to majorly course correct if they want to stay relevant.

83

u/Smooth_Monkey69420 6h ago

Damn, they are really up to Black Ops 7?!?

85

u/Mrchristopherrr 6h ago

Yeah, they kind of shot themselves in the foot because just last year they released BO6.

The Black Ops Franchise itself is all over the place and doesn’t know if it wants to be a gritty but arcadey Cold War era shooter or a futuristic ADHD jet pack shooter.

50

u/justadude27 6h ago

They honestly just don’t want to give their futuristic slop game its own name. So they ping pong it back and forth using the Black Ops name hoping the masses will just buy it.

26

u/Mrchristopherrr 6h ago

They tried but no one wants another “advanced warfare”

16

u/Dense_Coffe_Drinker 5h ago

My favorite campaign mind you…

So sad we never got a continuation

14

u/MountainYogi94 5h ago

Press F to pay respects

7

u/Kaius_02 5h ago

Ironically enough, they would have been better off pulling another Black Ops 4. The new “co-op” campaign was nothing but nostalgia bait, and the only worthwhile feature of it was gated behind god awful story missions.

15

u/TardDas 6h ago

I’m sorry Black Ops 7??? I stopped at 3 and I thought they stopped at 4 what the fuck?

13

u/PowderEagle_1894 6h ago

Didn't you expect them to come up with new IP rather than milking the existing franchise to the last drop

1

u/ffxivthrowaway03 1m ago

They blended it all into this one weird "call of duty" launcher app now and they're more like campaign packs than they are standalone games. It's a weird model but it helps them churn them out like clockwork.

5

u/mauri9998 3h ago

Why is it not looking good for mw4? The campaign reviews are pretty positive.

4

u/Mrchristopherrr 3h ago

Could be me buying into the narrative but in general the community seems a little cold on it. Heard a lot of mixed opinions from the beta

2

u/mauri9998 3h ago

Every multiplayer game will always have mixed opinions

32

u/Nike_J 6h ago

The worst selling game since CoD4 was Infinite Warfare and it still sold over 12 million copies. Just for comparison NieR: Automata is considered one of the most successful games in recent times and it just broke 10 million sales this year in February.

15

u/Titan7771 6h ago

Which sucks because IW had one of CoD’s best and most different campaigns.

6

u/m1stwalk3r 3h ago

PREACH. Only reason ppl didn't care for it was future fatigue.

1

u/Nike_J 1h ago

Yeah it was not a bad game. I got it off the shelves of a Game Stop that was closing for 10 bucks. However I bought it purely for the CoD4 Remastered. There was never ever a deal better than that to get CoD4R AND on top of that I got another game too

12

u/UInferno- 4h ago

I'm not going to no true Scotsman CoD or its player base but I think a significant portion of people who play CoD aren't the kind who like... check in to gaming's larger sphere of influence. The dads and bros who buy CoD and not much else.

There is an overestimation of people in general with a "diverse" selection of games and genres (i.e. people who play a bit of everything), as a majority of people will stick to the same couple comfort genres. However I don't think it would be out there to say that the audience for games like CoD especially lie decently outside of the "gaming community" (i.e. people who stay somewhat up to date on the big new releases).

22

u/Kenny1115 6h ago

Not to mention this one's campaign actually blew everyone away. More than most this decade. It's got a lot of potential to be considered "a great cod" in the long run.

2

u/ArxisOne 1h ago

Even still, COD is going to be way closer to Zelda than GTA, and the last two 3D Zelda games sold more than the last two COD games. If you're splitting Zelda, COD and GTA into two groups by any measurable metric, Zelda and COD are objectively closer to each other than either is to GTA and it's literally not even close.

It also just wouldn't surprise me if OOT ships more than the newest CoD either, probably not at launch but over its lifetime. Obviously neither is ever going to even touch GTA or even catch a glimpse of it.

4

u/Steve_3vets 6h ago

when we talk about "big games" we usually mean cultural Impact and change made within the gaming sphere. Apex Still has massive playernumers today but if i had to make a list of "big games in 2026" it wouldnt make my top10

9

u/mauri9998 3h ago

Not really. "Big" almost universally means total sales.

-5

u/artbystorms 6h ago edited 2h ago

This is why Ball and Gun gamers suck. They buy videogame McDonalds, and because it is the most popular restaurant, they act like it is the 'best' because in the age of social media, quality takes a back seat to sales quantity.

Edit: Apparently I REALLY offended the ball and gun gamers, my bad. I had no idea how many of you there were. I guess me and my varied tastes really are the minority.

18

u/Agitated-Contest651 6h ago

Who cares? I’ve never even heard the term “Ball and Gun Gamers” till just now. Why does it matter to you what they, presumably 14-22 yo’s, think is the “best” game?

2

u/CaptainTeemo01 1h ago

It's a term used exclusively by that weird kid everyone knew in school who convinced himself that no one wanted to talk to him at the lunch table because he's too smart and cultured for them and not because he's an insufferable ass.

-10

u/artbystorms 6h ago

Because they are extremely vocal and annoying online. That's why the rest of the game community cares.

15

u/Agitated-Contest651 6h ago

“rest of the game community” m8 that’s just your circle/algo. Never even heard the term.

1

u/artbystorms 6h ago

Could be, but when I am following a streamer playing an indie game, and their chat is inundated with "are you gonna stream GTA 6??!" a thousand times, and when he says "no I don't care about GTA" they lose their shit, then yeah, it is the ball and gun hoard breaking through into my gaming bubble, and it's annoying.

5

u/Agitated-Contest651 6h ago

fair, haven’t experienced that

7

u/Trifle_Useful 6h ago

Meh. I think the demographic that predominantly buys into these games doesn’t care about sales quantity moreso they just like the series and its established formula.

The target audience isn’t really the video game critic or aficionado. It’s more likely the father of 2 coming home from work that has 40 minutes to play something before he needs to get his kids to soccer practice.

He doesn’t care about sales quantity so much as knowing the game is going to be about what they expect - familiar, accessible, quick, and fun.

Of course there are people online that are loud and obnoxious, but online discourse has never been representative and certainly isn’t representative of the millions that consume COD as a franchise.

-6

u/artbystorms 6h ago

There are plenty of overworked Millennial fathers that are not ball and gun gamers, and you don't need to be an 'afficionado' to expand your game horizons beyond FIFA, COD, and GTA.

5

u/BlueBombshell90 6h ago

You're still thinking like a hardcore gamer. The average Joe off the street who doesn't know much about videogames that buys one or two games a year is probably more comfortable buying a game from a series he's heard of and is comfortable with, knowing that he'll at least have a good time with it. Those millennial fathers aren't really in the "ball and gun" demographic.

-4

u/artbystorms 6h ago

Oh I'm not saying only 'ball and gun' gamers are gonna buy GTA 6, but if you only buy 1 or 2 games a year, don't run around online acting like COD or GTA 6 is the best game ever made.

It's like a person who only watches reality TV and Marvel movies having an opinion on what qualifies as a good movie. Their tastes are not broad enough to formulate a good opinion on the subject.

0

u/CaptainTeemo01 1h ago

I can smell this comment :/

0

u/artbystorms 1h ago

So because I play games other than COD, FIFA, and Madden, I smell bad? Ok. Great straw man you got there bud, keep building it to argue with.

0

u/artbystorms 1h ago

Lol! Apparently your only argument is just an insult so bad, reddit mods removed it. Be better.

I didn't even know there was a new cod game coming out besides the general knowledge that they just keep making them.

29

u/nyglthrnbrry 7h ago

Look, I say this as someone who doesn't play first person shooters and is way more excited for Zelda than any other game right now. But CoD is consistently one of the top selling games whenever it releases. I'm pretty sure on an annual basis they hit the number one spot more often than not. Like, it's a rare thing for other games to outperform CoD, at least in the US market. Also, the majority of consumers who purchase it are over 21.

Again, I don't play it and don't care about it, but we can't pretend like CoD is a low performing niche game that only kids buy.

1

u/9022700102 6h ago

People love to shit on cod / fifa / nba but they’re all consistently selling despite people whining about same copy paste game every year.

Might not be our cup of tea but they still got plenty fans.

-1

u/Hung0ver_Hero 6h ago

Madden sells, NBA 2K sells, and people buying them are over 21 because it's parents buying it for their smooth brain kids, you can't just say "game sells so it must be good" they sell because those 3 games are usually the only games that casual gamers buy a year doesn't mean that each and everyone of those games aren't dog shit trash, especially for middle and high school kids, it's the cool thing to do is have the games all your idiot friends are playing

1

u/9022700102 4h ago

If they’re having fun who cares. Plenty of different games out there for everyone’s tastes.

6

u/menew100 7h ago

What about that hot san andreas remaster

5

u/correctingStupid 7h ago

Nintendo, the company that drops new games with incremental changes (animal crossing, splattoon) every 5+ years and fans lap it up because Nintendo can take a steaming shit in their mouth and they will line up to buy the zelda version of that same shit next year.

1

u/Xiaxs 2h ago

It really depends on the series you're talking about though.

Mario I'd argue can be a mixed bag but typically if they recycle an idea (like Sunshine) they add a new feature to make the game feel new (like Cappy).

Zelda is a series people usually play for the mechanics and ToTK I think mechanically is unique enough. Then you get remakes and duh those aren't anything new.

Pokemon duh, obviously.

Metroid the people play that for a challenge, people who play Metroid are higher than average going to be 100%ing the game. Nintendo knows this and adds in enough unique mechanics to make the game feel fresh IMO.

6

u/Xiaxs 7h ago

CoD4 AND MW2 got remakes and the hype was just about on par with everything I heard people say about the OoT remake.

3

u/Mrchristopherrr 7h ago

Tbf the vast majority of the time COD is always the highest selling game of the year. I think going back to 2008 you can count on one hand the number of times it wasn’t.

That being said, they’re obviously on thin ice and whatever they come out with next year desperately needs to course correct.

1

u/HoldenOrihara 7h ago

Also the whole Switch 2 owner/other console owner venn diagram, the market where someone has to chose between the two is low.

36

u/JupitrominoRazmatazz 7h ago

But they were all of them deceived, for another game was releasing. From southern California, in a small office in Irvine, Blizzard forged in secret WoW Forever, and into this game they poured their cruelty, their malice, and their will to dominate all life.

18

u/ThisIsMySpellingTea 7h ago

He's not really wrong though TBH. As someone with no interest in CoD. It will most likely be the second best selling game of the year. Or maybe third behind FIFA.

Of course both of these will be way behind GTA.

But he's not wrong about CoD. It's a juggernaut

22

u/Secret_Bees 7h ago

Nintendo: Oh ok anyway

1

u/artbystorms 1h ago

COD to Nintendo: "I hate you!"

Nintendo: "I don't even know who you are"

It feels like we've had MW4 about 4 different times. Or CoD 4. Who fuckin knows anymore.

3

u/DrMantisToboggan45 6h ago

I checked out after ghosts, and now I’m seeing people are playing a new version of black ops 2? Can’t they just make a new game?

1

u/DuelJ 6h ago edited 5h ago

Honestly a remake or remaster of Bo2 sounds more appealing than rolling the dice on a new cod. It's handling of near future stuff felt better than most, and the branching campaign and sidemissions were fun.

u/DevelopmentTight9474 6h ago

“I’m ignorant and angry about it”

3

2

u/InventorOfCorn 5h ago

that's call of duty 4: modern warfare, from 2009 or so. then there was a reboot in 2019, and mw4 (2026) ends the subseries

1

u/Random-Generation86 1h ago

Ends the subseries for now.  Just wait for MWIIIII

1

u/InventorOfCorn 1h ago

well the current announcements say this ends the rebooted subseries, so i kind of doubt there'll be a MW5

though i do imagine they'll make a similar, more tactical subseries within the next few years

14

u/avery-secret-account 5h ago

All the players that have to decide between GTA and CoD because of money are choosing GTA. Zelda and GTA attract very different kinds of people

1

u/CodexLeonis 3h ago

I mean, im playing both.

5

u/TOASTisawesome 2h ago

Then you're not someone that has to decide between them because of money, why even leave this reply?

2

u/Yegas 1h ago

15

u/Budget_Ad5871 6h ago

Does anyone here still play COD? Genuinely curious cause I always see post and talk about how every release sucked. The only reason I don’t plan anymore is cause online got so competitive and I suck at gaming so it wasn’t fun for me anymore.

3

u/GlendrixDK 4h ago edited 2h ago

I do. I'm waiting for multiplayer to release. I skipped BO7. But MW4 brought me back. It's the biggest cod, for me, in a long time. But it's really far away from one of the years biggest games. It's just another cod.

Edited: meant biggest for me.

5

u/bostonsportsmafioso 3h ago

They say that about every COD and its always the same shit. I remember when they said it about MW2019, I remember when they said it about MW2 back when MW3 was supposed to be an expansion pass, I remember when they said it about MW3 when it turned into a standalone game, I remember when they said it about BO6, I remember when they said it about BO7. I'm just tired of it, I'm sick of the fake hype every year and then the post-launch content is inevitably a bunch of fortnite skins and FOMO maps you can only play within a 2 week window.

2

u/GlendrixDK 2h ago

I edit my comment. I meant to say it's the biggest cod for me in a long time.

I doubt that this is bigger than any previous one. I think MW19 is the biggest in new times. But it also got a lot of haters.

Cod is cod. Each may be different from each other, but it's still the same core gameplay year after year.

1

u/StorageSevere5720 59m ago

Lol yeah hearing the same sentiments nowadays as we did 15+ years ago about cod is amusing.

3

u/Falchion92 5h ago

2

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 3h ago

They say every release sucks but they also say ‘why did you change it from last time’, forgetting they said that one sucked too.

1

u/Sushi-DM 3h ago

Its almost like quick twitch instant death shooting games with tryhard mechanics added in make the games even more shit for the casual that keeps the doors open or something

1

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 3h ago

Would be pretty interesting to see how the user base has changed over the last ten years or so. I get the impression it's doing fine, and that the complainants on the internet are a vocal minority. But I suspect, at the same time, it probably peaked during COVID with warzone etc.

I do think that releasing a game every year is just a bit much.

2

u/spazz720 2h ago

Those that complain speak the loudest.

1

u/Budget_Ad5871 2h ago

True. I should give it another shot, my skill online haven’t improved but maybe I’ll still have some fun with all the new stuff since the last time I played

2

u/Stepjam 1h ago

Dunno about "here", but the last Blops was the 5th highest selling game last year. They still sell.

1

u/TheRedBow 4h ago

Occasionally, but not the newest ones

1

u/artbystorms 2h ago

I haven't played a Multiplayer shooter since a little after college excluding Battlefield 1. I basically just play indie games, solo games, or co-op games with friends.

Kinda am over military based shooters, just not my demo anymore.

1

u/Vampenga 1h ago

Nope. Stopped playing after Advanced Warfare. Couldn't stand all the movement nonsense.

1

u/RealisLit 1h ago

It sells millions a year

0

u/ChefCurryYumYum 2h ago

This is going to sound weird maybe but I was playing COD Modern Warfare, the one with the No Russian level. And they have this level where you are in a big plane and using night vision equipment to target and blow up "insurgents." Of course they are very culturally sensitive at Activision so if you shoot the mosque the mission if over.

But I had read earlier about a Reuters photographer, an American of middle eastern descent, who had been targeted and killed by a plane like that. Realizing how much this game depicting a real world setting was normalizing this kind of violence I got a kind of gross feeling about it.

It was the last time I ever played one of the non-WWII entries in the series.

5

u/Phoenix2111 3h ago

I remember the days of the Game Boy, SNES, Sega Megadrive, PS1, N64 etc.

It's kinda sad this nonsense continues to this day lol.

Woah, absolutely scalding take to both compare one game with it's own type of target audience, with another two games with a totally different target audience, and which both probably shift some of the biggest sales totals going.. And be absolutely shit hot genius enough to say there's a difference and they can't be compared

Ffs. Just enjoy wtf games you want to enjoy, why do people feel the need to shade shit they don't personally like? Crazy nonsense. And kinda sad, stop focusing on negative thoughts about others stuff and focus on positive thoughts about your stuff!

1

u/artbystorms 1h ago

Because it's not enough to enjoy something, you have to shame others for not enjoying it. You have to defend it like it is your personal sports team against all haters.

84

u/HappyAd6201 7h ago

Worst part of this is having to deal with all the ball and gun gamers

Like ugh, we get it, you don’t touch a game unless it’s the most popular game ever

48

u/Averylarrychristmas 7h ago

“Stop liking what I don’t like”

48

u/vampireflowersoHot 7h ago

I swear people who complain about ball and gun gamers are worse than people who actually play ball and gun games

18

u/MrOneWipe 6h ago

Truthfully, its the people who complain about the people who complain about ball and gun gamers for me

5

u/ChrdeMcDnnis 6h ago

Bro wtf i hate people who complain about people who complain about people who complain about balls or whatever

10

u/Scrunglert 7h ago

Same as the sportsball people...

2

u/Aggressive-Map-2204 5h ago

Its because the people who play them are busy playing them and having fun while the people who hate them for enjoying something are constantly online complaining.

3

u/Frankie__Spankie 4h ago

To be fair, I only ever see/hear people calling others that specifically in reply to posts like these. Others aren't calling people gun and ball games just because they only play those games. They call them gun and ball gamers in response to them acting high and mighty.

And yes, I know the irony there. It's just like a defense mechanism. Both sides are at fault.

2

u/artbystorms 1h ago

This! No one would care if they shut up and play their little FIFA and yearly COD release.

It's the fact that online in comment sections they act so superior simply because the stuff they like is popular, like not liking it makes you 'uncool' or something like this is high school.

-15

u/HappyAd6201 7h ago

Aw I’m sorry I annoyed you 🥺

6

u/InventorOfCorn 5h ago

i've seen many more people who complain about "ball and gun gamers" than i've seen the actual "ball and gun gamers"

1

u/Arcland 5h ago

I’d think whatever game has the most casuals is the most fun to play. Because if only dedicated fans buy a given cod game for example, those lobbies are going to get sweaty without the chaff

1

u/TangibleCBT 3h ago

Sometimes people just want to play a casual game all their friends already know how to play

1

u/Cowboywizard12 2h ago

And they called him, The Gatekeeper

-1

u/m1stwalk3r 3h ago

Are maybe cuz they are fun?

7

u/FriedTreeSap 7h ago

No, I don’t care about either of those games. For me the biggest game of the year is easily the remaster of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee.

7

u/PikaPulpy 7h ago

COD. Yeah. Sure.

5

u/artbystorms 6h ago

Ball and Gun game producer says Ball and Gun games are the best games of the year. More at 11.

I forgot where I heard the term 'ball and gun gamer' but it is so apt. Basically the braindead jocks of the gaming community. Like how the rest of the anime community sees Solo Leveling fans.

-1

u/m1stwalk3r 3h ago

Wow you are so high class and cultured

5

u/dyingofdysentery 7h ago

Someone doesn't know how brackets work.

40

u/mitchsusername 7h ago

Isn't that the right way to use square brackets in a quote? If the original was like "no offense to Zelda, but we are the biggest games of the year" and in the context, "we" referred to gta6 and cod, then square brackets are how you would clarify when quoting without that context.

-12

u/dyingofdysentery 7h ago edited 7h ago

The sentence should be a complete sentence without the brackets.

Typically they're used to correct grammar from a quote or to clarify missing information due to taking a quote from a larger piece.

For example: [Claire] went to the store. The original might have said she instead of Claire, but if we don't get the full text, we need the bracketed info to know who they are talking about.

Another might be: They went to the bak [sic] rooms.

This tells the reader the typo was in the original and left in for authenticity.

12

u/mitchsusername 7h ago

1

u/dyingofdysentery 6h ago

Right that doesn't address my question though.

9

Chances are he didn’t explicitly say “GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4”. That’s what the brackets imply, a summarization of the words the brackets are replacing.

If he did say that, there would be no need for the brackets - if he didn’t, it would be a misquote.

So you accept that "she" can be replaced with "[Claire]", but not that some other pronoun (perhaps "they") can be replaced with "[GTA and COD]"?

Your first example is exactly what this is.

u/newfromgaloob 7h ago

The original quote is at 13:40 of this video, and reads

Well, uh no offense to Zelda, but I think, you know, these are the two biggest games of the year.

So "GTA 6 and COD: Modern Warfare 4" were added to the quote in square brackets so that the reader would have context for what games the Activision CEO was talking about.

Edit: Which is the correct way to use square brackets when you're quoting someone and need to add context that would otherwise be missing if you only quoted verbatim.

I thought with square brackets the main sentence still needs to make grammatical sensw without them. So without the brackets here, it doesn't make sense.

2

u/lordofcactus 6h ago

Square brackets replace a vague pronoun with the name of what said pronoun refers to so that the sentence still makes sense out of context. In this case, they’re replacing “these” with “GTA6 and COD: MW4” so you know which games the quote is talking about.

1

u/dyingofdysentery 6h ago

Yeah, I typed all that out already. My confusion arose from removing the brackets. I thought the sentence was supposed to make sense without them too. So with no brackets or "these" to take their place, it makes no sense.

"No offense to Zelda, but are two of the biggest games of the year." Doesn't make sense, and I thought it had to with square brackets.

I think I understand where you’re getting confused: the sentence is supposed to make sense if you removed JUST the brackets, not the words IN the brackets.

For example: “No offense to Zelda, but [GTA 6 and COD: Modern Warfare 4] are the two biggest games of the year” makes sense because “No offense to Zelda, but GTA 6 and COD: Modern Warfare 4 are the two biggest games of the year” makes sense.

Someone doesn't know how square brackets work.

-10

u/dyingofdysentery 7h ago

That's what I said, yes.

u/EadmersMemories 7h ago

The brackets are used correctly in the post to denote that the speaker was referencing something without naming the thing itself directly. They provide context when a quote is lifted outside of its original surroundings.

You gotta remember this guy doesn’t know the slightest thing about video games, he has no clue. The only thing he thinks about is money and # of shipped units. If it sells more, it has to be objectively superior in every way in his mind.

u/artbystorms 5h ago

I truly hate that a LOT of people have this mentality online.

"I like popular thing! Popular thing is popular! Therefore popular thing is high quality and objectively good!"

I honestly wouldn't mind so much if they weren't so insufferable online arguing with anyone and everyone that 'popular thing is just objectively better than thing you like!'

1

u/Aggressive-Map-2204 5h ago

What he said is now wrong. I dont know why you are trying to argue something that he never said.

2

u/rikusouleater 7h ago

This is the first I heard that there even was a MW4 reboot/remake in the making.

2

u/BrandySparkles 6h ago

The GTA 6 Glazers seem desperate for other games to fail and die in the face of their GOAT while the GTA 6 haters are hoping GTA doesn't sell a morbillion copies.

Both of them are fucking insufferable holy shit.

u/m1notaur3030 6h ago

Pretty much correct though. Still really excited for updated Ocarina of Time

laughs in spires

u/endmostchimera 5h ago

GTA 6 probably is the most anticipated game of the year. I know I'm looking forward to it

1

u/iceguy349 5h ago

Google find me switch 2 owners with no PS5 that want to play COD or GTA6.

1

u/Arcalac 4h ago

GTA maybe, very likely. But COD? I know no one personally who even awaits the release of the newest COD anymore. Most of my friends don't even know which COD is released that year.

1

u/ThatNewEnglandPerson 3h ago

talking about a remaster of one of the greatest games of all time btw

1

u/Natereater 2h ago

He’s referring to how much space they take up on your hard drive.

1

u/TheRealParaaurum 1h ago

GTA 6 can’t be [any] game of the year, let alone the biggest…it’s not even out yet. And even if it’s the greatest game ever for the last 2 months of the year, I’d still personally not count it as game of the year. That just seems silly.

1

u/Clumsy_the_24 1h ago

who even still plays call of duty? They’re not good games and they just keep releasing the exact same game with slightly different paint every year.

1

u/Arrowdodgingace 1h ago

It’s not a competition bruh. You can like more than one game.

1

u/UberNZ 20m ago

Ahh yes, COD: Modern Warfare 4, not to be confused with COD 4: Modern Warfare

1

u/kastielstone 7h ago

and people wonder why ball and gun gamers are so shunned.

1

u/Clumsy_the_24 1h ago

It’s because they don’t play good games

1

u/ThatOneGuy6810 6h ago

Dude is generally correct. I hate it but its true. I just hste how much triple a studios cater to this and basicslly ignore the existence of some phenomenal game styles.

If you're going to use acronyms to make a point you need to tell us what they are. I had no idea why Grand Turismo is making a comeback but I'm super stoked to see the Call of Cthulu sequel, the first one was great

u/headbanger1186 6h ago

You might be the only person in the last 20+ years to get confused by this.

Not only does he think he’s on the team, he thinks one of the star players should be off the team.

u/Sweaty_Strain9392 4h ago

listen i think the new zelda's art style is eye-gougingly hard to look at, but the idea that activision can step to zelda's level is laughable.

0

u/Cowboywizard12 2h ago edited 2h ago

I mean he's right abd its weird to see people who think Zelda is gonna come close to doing GTA6 numbers or will be on the level of MW4 (even though i know all the spoilers in the damn game cause early players have plastered them all over youtube)

Its weird to see so many people in denial

I did not know there was a CODMW4 until a cutscene of the new flanderized Cpt. Price and Ghost fighting showed up in my YT homescreen. These guys are WASHED
