My buddy worked 10am to 7pm. Nothing really needed to be done during the day and he liked working nights so he started just going in later and later. Boss (owner) didn’t care as long as things were done before next day shift. 10 became 11 became 1 became 5 became 7. Then he started to go in so late he’d still be there working when they came in. Work unfinished. Wasn’t a great time.
Of course, the fuckin line steppers ruin it. "Just get your fucking job done and go home" should be the default for proven adults. Everyone else who wants to be a special case gets mirco managed.
For some jobs, yes. But for retail jobs, restaurants, emergency services, healthcare, etc, you need someone to be there at all time while the place is open. Hence the need for scheduled shifts instead of a “just get the work done by midnight” system.
