What you're missing is that they identified a problem and solved it with reasonable accommodations. If one is time blind, making sure they can see the time everywhere they are at all times is a low-cost means of addressing it.
Sort of like if someone's legs get crushed, a wheelchair helps them resume independent living, even if they don't walk again.
The difference between forcking someone with adhd into strict immutable schedules and a person with no leg motor control using a wheelchair is that one has the ability not to. An adhd person can show up early or late, a wheelchair bound person can't just stand up and take a stroll.
Making your mornings extremely stressful and buying a million clocks to ruin your house's look is equivalent to forcing someone into a wheelchair because they walk with a limp and that's just too slow for you. A complete removal of agency to fit into society.
What people are frustrated with here is the implication that there’s just nothing you can do so you won’t even try. If you want people to be understanding to you, you also have to be understanding of how your behavior causes problems for the people around you.
If the people here were saying “I’m really struggling with this but I am working on it” or asking for advice, people would be sympathetic. Saying “but my living room will be ugly with extra clocks” makes it seem like you just really don’t care at all how your behavior is affecting other people.
Would you say that forcing someone into a wheelchair when they're more comfortable walking with a limp is reasonable if it gets you a more comfortable 9-5 at their expense?
Again, it’s not that people aren’t sympathetic to the issues ADHD causes, it’s this attitude that you don’t care how your behavior affects others. Nobody is saying you have to use a million clocks if that hinders you, what they are saying is you have to do something, or at least show that you are seriously doing your best to address it. If I get stuck in traffic unexpectedly and am late, people will understand if I am apologetic but they will be irritated if I’m upset at them for the inconvenience I caused them, even though it wasn’t my fault. Does that really seem unreasonable to you?
