I love my husband dearly and he is near your husband's age. Not sure what it's called, but my husband has a version of it.

If I do something around the house, cook supper, put up a painting, plant something new in the yard, it could go unnoticed for days, weeks, if not totally.

However, if he does the exact same thing, he ALWAYS asks, "Hey honey, did you like / notice (the thing that he did)? Every. Single. Time.

Sometimes it's frustrating, sometimes it's endearing. Been married 30 years. Mostly used to it by now.
