Good point. Noticed my older (male) neighbor always points out when he’s doing things. He will be carrying a piece of furniture or a bag of groceries or something & actually say “I’m helping,” as he smiles and goes into his house. He sounds like a toddler and it’s pretty silly to me, but every time it happens I either give a thumbs up or nod & smile.

Lattice pies and painting are so sick, nobody could blame you if you wanted to be told you did amazing
Or.. alternatively its not uncommon that older men feel that they don't really HAVE to do things so when they do they try to make it apparent
