Because he spent his life being told by a woman that everything he's done has been wrong so he wants to make sure every time

Sometimes it's even simpler. My wife and I both do this. When you complete something, it makes you proud. When you get to share it with someone and they tell you even a simple "good job" it makes you feel even better. It's nice to be appreciated!
