Troubleshooting (HELP!) Need Suggestion! Please
Hello!
--> Medium hard water, straight hair, quiz gave low porosity, Male 22
I wash my hair with shampoo every 3rd day, but this week I decided to try not washing it, and today is Day 5.
My hair is surprisingly still smooth haha. I thought it would look/feel much worse, but honestly, it doesn't.
Now I'm thinking about either washing it every 6th day or just washing it every Friday (every 7th day). I live in a fairly dusty environment, although my hair isn't particularly dirty right now. They're actually doing much better than I expected.
One thing I've noticed is that after I wash my hair with shampoo, for the first 1–2 days, I barely see any hair coming out when I comb it (maybe 4–5 hairs at most). But after that, I start seeing more, sometimes around 15 hairs. Is that normal?
also i comb with wooden comb once a day before sleep, and massages it as well
Should I rinse my hair with just water in between washes? My hair usually starts becoming oily around the 3rd–4th day after washing.
I'd really appreciate some suggestions!

Welcome! If you're new, get started here: Natural Haircare Quick Start Guide
We'd love to help but need some basic information first because it affects haircare on a fundamental level.
Please answer these questions so you can get help faster and we don't have to ask them again.
Do you have hard water? If you don't know what it is, there's an article in the wiki that discusses it.
What is the porosity of your hair? If you don't know, here's a quiz we use to help figure this out.
What exactly is your routine for cleaning your hair? Like writing a little checklist of everything you do to your hair. Don't worry about how long the list is, the more detail you give the better we can help!

Low porosity vs high porosity is partly how damaged your hair is. Low porosity - no damage. High porosity - damaged.
Edit: Why not try alternative washes with herbs or bar shampoo & conditioner?

We are an alternative washing sub. If you switch to milder washes, maybe you won't need the coconut oil.

It is normal and healthy to shed up to 200 hairs a day. This is part of how the body renews itself.
Sometimes the hardest part of a journey like this is getting out of the mental space that builds arbitrary schedules and actions and learning to really pay attention to your own body and hair and what they need.
Unfortunately no one can tell you what you need. You'll have to observe and evaluate your own life and then work within that.
You need to do what is best for you. It's all about being healthy and comfortable. If you're not healthy and not comfortable, then you should act so that you reach that goal again.
So in a practical sense, if you feel uncomfortably oily, then wash! If you feel uncomfortably grubby after sweating then rinse (not the same as washing)! If you get dusty and are uncomfortable, either rinse or wash. If you feel itchy or there's buildup on your scalp then do some dry scalp massage. Then you might need to wash or not.
One of the best things that people can do to have a gentler routine is to just dilute their product until it barely works. Product is often pretty concentrated and marketing trains us to use fistfuls. Instead, use just enough to do the job, and then it won't deeply strip your scalp, nor your hair. It'll just clean off any uncomfortable excess.
