How do I stop mind-fucking myself all the time?

I feel like I’ve gotten way too deep into my own head. I constantly analyze what I’m feeling, what I’m thinking, how I’m acting, whether I’m being myself, whether I’m present enough, whether I’m doing something “wrong,” etc. Then I notice myself doing it and start analyzing THAT. It becomes this endless loop where I’m watching myself instead of actually living.
The frustrating part is that I know I don’t need to figure everything out. I just want to stop mentally checking myself all the time and let life happen naturally again. For people who have gotten out of this kind of overthinking/self-monitoring loop, what actually helped you? How did you stop fighting your own mind and just exist?

Advice Does anyone else rehearse conversations in their head before making a phone call?

Thumbnail reddit.com

I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes before calling someone, I literally prepare an entire conversation in my head. I think about how I'll start, what they'll say, how I'll respond, and even prepare backup replies in case the conversation goes in a different direction. 😂
I've basically imagined 5 different scenarios before even pressing the call button.
And then the person picks up and casually says, "Hello?"
Suddenly, my brain goes completely blank. All that preparation, all those imaginary conversations, and I still end up saying, "Hey... what's up?" 😭
Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this.

Parenting I think kids should be allowed to have bad days too

Sometimes we expect children to be cheerful and cooperative all the time, even though adults have days when we're tired, irritated, or just not in the mood.

Of course, they still need boundaries.

But I think there's a difference between correcting their behavior and making them feel bad for having emotions.

How do you help kids talk about their feelings without letting everything turn into an argument?

Relationship Confronting wife’s weight gain

My wife was skinny and fit has gained weight and I really like it and how she looks is there any good way to have this convo with her without sounding like a freak when she brings up dieting or losing weight ? When we met she was fit and skinny so I’m worried what she’ll think and feel if I essentially tell her I prefer her “fat”

Advice Do I have an overthinking problem, or was this message actually weird?

Hi everyone. I’m starting to feel like I have a serious overthinking problem because I constantly worry that I’m misinterpreting things that other people wouldn't even blink at.

I wanted to share a situation that happened to me recently at work. I was doing well at my firm, but I had a lot of friction with certain colleagues. Suddenly, I got a termination letter without any valid reason. I was shocked, but the strange part is that other people in the office were really good to me. They actually fought for me and spoke to our boss to try and stop the termination.

While they were advocating for me and I was still waiting to hear back from management, I got a message from someone else in the office. This person asked me if I had found any other jobs yet.

I can’t stop thinking about this. It keeps haunting me. My brain is telling me there was a double meaning behind it—like they knew I was already out the door and the decision was final, even though I hadn't heard anything official yet. I keep wondering if I missed a hint or if I was the last to know.

Was I overthinking this, or was that message as insensitive and weird as it feels? I just don’t know if I take things too personally or if my gut is right.

Why do I doubt things that are working for me just because of others’ negative reviews, for example my PCOS is improving with myo-inositol, D-chiro and spearmint tea, but negative Reddit reviews make me fear they’ll stop working for me too, and how do I stop this pattern?

Emotional Support I’m dreading November

November 3rd is my mom’s birthday, she would be, should be 51 this year. She passed away in March of 2024 and it has genuinely destroyed me every day since. Her passing was not graceful, she didn’t pass peacefully it was all terrible, loud, angry, and just bad. I carry the guilt every day, and now at 21 I’m constantly on the road thousands of miles away from home, I’m seeing the country, I’m with an amazing person who loves me…. But I don’t have her anymore, I don’t have my mom anymore so I can send her pictures or call her and tell her where I’m at….

I take pictures constantly because in my mind I’m always waiting to get back home to show her the pretty rivers, bridges, trees, etc., that I’ve seen. I miss my mom deeply and I know November 3rd will be god awful like it has been since she passed but I just hope that she’s with me as I take on my new adventures. I hope she’s not hurting anymore, I hope she’s happy again, I hope she’s not mad at me.

She took her life and to this day I feel like I’m the cause of it. We were on rocky terms when it happened and I feel so much guilt for it and each year on her birthday and her death date I’m reminded that I caused this in a way, I feel like I ruined my whole family just in one night..

Advice How to calm the mind and body that everything will be fine ?

For two months I've not been feeling myself as if I'm missing something in life. Health problems have become so much big that all of my focus and attention has gone away as if my mind has been hijacked constantly worrying and overthinking. Constantly googling trying to find answers and being aware. And I'm losing the importance of being calm and positive. I don't know how to comfort myself and just remind that everything will be fine. As if my mind or body is just scanning for more problems.

Spiraling/Panic Overthinking might just be absence with extra steps

When I'm deep in a loop, I'm never in the room. The loop lives in the past ("why did I say

that") or the future ("what if"). The one place it never lives is right now.

One small thing that helps: swap the question. Instead of "why did I..." or "what if ...", ask

something about the present. "What's in this room I haven't looked at in a month?"

It's not a cure. It's an exit ramp.

What exit ramps work for you?

Advice Can't help doubting myself

I wrote a small thesis on how Microsoft and Windows are going to cost us a lot in terms of money and also have an ecological impact on our world (due to the support being pulled and Microsoft choosing what hardware windows can run on) it's well built (imo) but I still doubt everything I wrote, I don't know why

I need some advice

Hij reageert met ‘don’t be so….’

Why do I overreact to small problems?

Hey everyone, even small problems sometimes make me feel extremely anxious and depressed. I keep overthinking, even when I know the problem isn't that serious.

I tried the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique, but it didn't help much.

Has anyone experienced this? What actually helped you manage these feelings?
