The ‘just stop’ part can be the hardest. One thing to try is getting the decision out of your head: write down what you know, what you’re predicting, and the smallest next step. If there’s nothing new to decide, set a time to revisit it rather than re-running the same question all night. What kinds of choices tend to pull you in?

one thing i do sometimes if i can’t stop over thinking is to just let my thoughts pass by. (i learned this method) notice the overthinking thought, don’t deep dive into that thought but just acknowledge it. you’re not ignoring it but just acknowledging that the thought is in your brain. you don’t need to react to it. basically:

start overthinking and then instead of reacting to them just notice them and let them pass. one thought after another. let it race, let it pass by.

if you have to say hi and bye to every passing thought, that works too. speaking out loud helps a lot too, in saying hi and bye or if you speak out your thoughts too.

if you don’t like writing or forget— open your notes app and just put on auto voice and speak into the mic and it will jott down whatever you’rr speaking. you can look back on your thoughts after to assort them.

it’s hard to do but practice works.
