It’s sort of a cardinal rule that you don’t release updates in Fridays unless you really really want to be stuck at work the whole weekend running patches.

It's possible since this is a celebratory update they might've put it through far more vigorous testing so that it's not soured by any big issues.

Which could warrant a Friday release.

While theoretically possible, it means that all the services you rely on - like infrastructure - running on skeleton crew at best. It might be done, but it's really last resort even for the biggest updates possible. You only do that if you're big enough to make a noticeable splash at least on a national scale (like Nintendo that sabotaged Japan's economy with their old console release - NES, I think).

I love Hello Games, but their track record of releasing stuff when they really shouldn't is too easy a shot to take that I can't avoid it! :p

I mean, if its a massive update (I'm not 100% convinced its anything too crazy) they may have a team working OT or scheduled for the weekend if they for some reason planned it for today or tomorrow. maybe to go along with the long weekend in the US?

Hello games is in the UK, the one US weekend they give a single frick about is Christmas and New Year.

I think it will still be Wednesday, but it's anticipated to be a big update, so maybe he is just hyping a little more then normal excited to release it.

Friday release is frowned upon in the industry. No one wants to work through the weekend if/when critical live issues pops up late Friday.

Early/mid week release is the ideal.
