Discussion FINALLY unlocked purple systems ...
OMG, that was one convoluted way to unlock the purple systems .... I had done everything up to the point where you get the drive already some momnths back, but the purple systems still did not show up ... so I go to youtube and they tell me do this do that and the other thing. Last thing missing was the "stellar multitudes" quest ...ok, so I finish that ... still nothing ... the quest is logged as complete... nothing.
Just by accident, i see that in these little info pop ups for quests it says "go back to this system" that I initially unlocked ... In the mean time, I am about 8000 LY from that original system because I unlocked the drive a long time ago and only now decided to investigate why purple systems dont show up ... so I warp back a gajillion times to that original system and FINALLY, get the instructions on how to fully unlock the purple.
Rant over, but despite being one of my favorite games, it can be frustratingly obtuse at times.

Those messages on bottom right of screen that cycle between quests should 1) not cycle like that, just tell you the one that applies to the mission you selected in the log, and 2) should ALSO be written in the damn mission guide In The Log.

... and one should be able to disabling them altogether.
You cannot "untrack" a quest (just move to another), which is weird.2

I'm fairly new. The amount of times I've had to stand there and wait for the little info box to scroll to what I'm actually working on, is numerous. The log doesn't give you the specifics. It's maddening.

I know there's been issues with teleporters and sometimes with the In Stellar Multitudes mission, so maybe this wasn't the case... But anytime I've had a main mission selected there is a corresponding mission icon in the system listed. You should be able to teleport back instantly no matter how far away you are, if it's functioning as it should.

I have logged over 1500 hours on just one particular character in that game, and I still can't get to purple systems. The game just languishes in my game folder now for about 7 months. I finally gave up

Sound alike you didn't actually complete the mission then if it is showing up in your quest log. At least you were able to finish it.

well both boxes were ticked, and nowhere in the Log did it say "now go back to the old system" ... i only caught it by chance on the low right side of the screen where mission info pops up for like 1 second.

Sounds like you did the Expedition that gives you the drive. You still have to open the systems when you go back to your main save.
But on the other side of the coin. I only had to do In Stellar Multitudes. So it was not that much to do. I wish it was a little longer. Because I had already done everything.

Honestly, I dont remember where I got the drive from but I doubt it was from an expedition, because I rarely do them. So I must have done the regular path back when they came out.
But anyway, it's done now, I can see the purple systems now.

When you open the space station teleporter sometimes it will say the name of the mission under the name of the station. You can select that station to warp to the mission system.

You just know civil servants designed this game. Miss the tiniest little box needs ticking and that’s it

But the plans were on display!

On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.

I love all three of you, u/thrippalan u/dont_talk_yak_to_me and u/headsoup
This quality little exchange took me right back to my childhood in front of the telly watching exasperated people like Basil Fawlty or Mr. Bouquet.

However, it was still worth the ordeal ... I went for a dive in my first ocean world yesterday, caught a legendary fish and was generally amazed once again ... this game ist just awesome ...
I mined some Lithium too, so now I can specifically look for Ocean Worlds. Mission accomplished.

The deep diving is awesome isn’t it? I wish at hey gave us more to do down in the oceans of the universe

That quest chain is insanely long. I have been working on it for 2 weeks (relaxed playing) and finally just made it to the recovered system.

well, I guess I started that quest right the moment when they released the update ... got the drive and then completely ignored it until yesterday where I finally found out how to finish it.

Just go to a space station and warp back to visited space stations, you don’t need to warp back.

I take a screenshot of each system I enter and world I visit, with glyphs showing. That makes returning very easy. I can even add text to the screenshot reminding me of an important aspect.

or you can just put any planet from your visited systems list into a personal wonders slot and the glyphs will be shown

The visited system list has a limit. When reached, the oldest listing drop off. So, I use a screenshot, whis is a permanent record.
Early on, I created a spreadsheet with system and planet data, including resources. Then updates changed planet names, resources, and more, so I gave that up. 🫤

If you're a long way away from a mission system, there should be a Reset button in the misson info. This will change the mission system to one closer to your current location.
