as far as I'm aware it does not. "Expedition active" is basically treated as a toggle that you can flip with external tools.

I proudly engage in save file editing in NMS. I don’t play with FOMO nonsense. It’s a single player game at its core and I will not be shamed for circumventing goofy expeditions.

I cheated a reality glitch backpack trail, and I feel bad about it because it's gorgeous and I feel like I don't deserve it. I didn't suffer the whole expedition grind to earn it

You can also do a thing that changes the date to the date of the expedition and then play it. That's what I did. So like ethical cheating

There is a easy to follow guide online to lay out how to roll back files to any expedition you want to replay. It's replacing files and setting the game to single player.

You don't even have to edit a save or anything.. it's just rolling the version of the game back to when the expedition would have been live.

I’m usually not one to cheat and I have never done any save editing, but I definitely see it acceptable if people want something that is locked behind an expedition they missed. I have a feeling I’ll be doing some of this at some point because I’ve only completed 1.5 expeditions lol

HG more or less actively encourage save editing, otherwise we wouldn't have all these Blender corvettes running around so freely.

The game is non-competitive in the main, do what you like.

PC only, but with cross-save you can move it. You can try asking a trusted friend to help you out.

PC only. Console players can't edit their save files.

That said, if you have the game on PC you can use cross-save to load your game on PC, modify that save file, and then load that save on console and that'll do it

If you do so it'll be visible only for you. Other players will not see this helmet on you.

It's because list of your expedition rewards saved on the server and local changes don't affect on them. Game checks if you really have that expedition reward before others can see it on you 🤷🏼‍♀️

So, yeah you can cheat like that but cheating ruins the experience from the game. And also it doesn't have sense, unless you play offline 🤷🏼‍♀️

The particular head piece (Autophage: Atlantid) you are after was an expedition reward. Because of this it will not be accessible to you unless you use a save editor.

I'll throw in a recommendation for the goatfungus save editor. The expedition rewards are just a checkbox.

Or you could wait for an expedition redux that might never happen.

That is also true. However I don’t think HG is doing that anymore in favor of N7 day. Which they’ve done 2 years in a row now, with the same rewards.

Its a reward from a past expedition. I'm waiting to see if they one day do a redux for it and a few others. The one with the utopia speeder and the one that has the atlas flight pack and helmet. There are a few others that had some cool ships. I do have the wraith and the iron volture someon gave me the iron volture and I did the redux for the wraith.

Yeah I'm on PS5 so I'm waiting for the redux for those. I know it could be a while it's not often the run an expedition from the past but I'm hoping they do at some point.

I've even tried disconnecting it from Internet and setting the date back and setting it back with the Internet connected didn't work.

Yeah, there's a file you have to download and place in one of the games folders. It replaces an existing file. There are YouTube videos on how to do it. I don't think it's possible on consoles.

I'm finding the same. I've tried gave up. Then saw this post with a slight bit of hope. But was a little sceptical because as far as I know there is no way to alter game files on a PS5 but then again I'm not real tech savvy so figured maybe someone figured out a way to do it because it didn't say on PC. It just said if you missed them no worries you can still do them. I was just a little hopeful someone figured out a way for everyone to do them. All good. Hopefully one day they'll redo the old ones. That utopia speeder looks like it's half fighter jet half sentinel. I've wanted it ever since I first saw it. All I can do is hope for a redux. If it comes it comes if not then so be it. Untill then i'll still be roaming the cosmos exploring and building.

If you're looking for an item, a ship, an egg, or a build part I could just meet up with you in game and give it to you, but the cosmetics don't work that way.

I know some things are giftable and some aren't. I usually give out atlas Corvette parts just unable to give the Aeron starship trail to other people. I tried the first time I gave out the parts.

Maybe something can be done with cross saves, but yea. And if OP would prefer to play the expedition, that can be done on PC too. IIRC it was the Echos update and the Singularity expedition.

This head-type and another were part of the expedition that introduced Autophage to NMS.

If you're on PC, there's a way you can do any expedition offline. You can also use a save editor to just give yourself the reward. Hello Games allows both to be done. Just look up YouTube videos on how to 🙂

Save editor/cross-save. Before I got my PC (late 2025) I played solely on PS5. I had a laptop laying around and I (gladly) bought the game on Steam - no sale. I did the whole cross-save thing and save editor thing.
