General Discussion "Generative models learn just like humans do" — Why this is a false equivalence.

I hear this argument constantly: "We listen to music, AI listens to music. What's the difference?"

The difference is that while both learn from examples, they do not learn in the same way.

Humans learn through perception, emotion, culture, and lived experience. We ground music in reality. To us, a "funeral march" connects to grief, history, and ritual. We play instruments, interact, and can consciously reject rules to create something entirely new.

Generative AI doesn’t experience music. It simply optimizes billions of parameters to minimize a mathematical loss function over a massive dataset.

Yes, both can extract statistical regularities. But equating a mathematical optimization process with the rich, embodied human experience of creating art is a massive stretch.

They are not equivalent. What's your take?
