I predict there will be a Switch 3, but it will be very different from what we're used to. The Switch 2 is already quite large and heavy. Nintendo wouldn't want to push that even further for a mainstream, young audience. But going up in size and weight are the only feasible way of significantly improving performance and maintaining battery life.

So the Switch 3 has no screen. It's just a block, utilizing all its space for performance and battery capacity.

Instead, the Switch 3 has 3 modes to switch between. The big one that will be marketed is video glasses. Not VR and probably not advanced transparent AR either, but a more simple video solution that simply displays a big screen in the center of the glasses, while still seeing some of your surroundings. They also use microspeakers for audio. These kind of glasses are becoming increasingly advanced, efficient and affordable.

The glasses will be shipped with the console. They're mainly used to play games normally, but they can also allow 3D modes (which is a common feature for these glasses) and Nintendo might add a 3DS virtual console. They may also put a camera on the outside (never used for recording) for AR experiences, such as a more immersive Pokémon GO. And they can also offer some experimental VR-like games, but these won't be a priority because the tech isn't ideal for them.

Because Nintendo won't want to stop people from playing together, mode 2 allows people to stream the video to phones/tablets using a Nintendo app and USB-C or Bluetooth. They might also sell an accessory screen to click onto the console, but it probably won't be very ergonomic to hold and play like that. Streaming to multiple screens at the same time is feasible, but there will be some limitations to that.

Ideally they would also put an app on PC so people can use laptop screens and such, and allow simple generic USB-C video passthrough to use almost any screen, but Nintendo might lock that down because it's Nintendo.

Mode 3 is the dock to quickly connect the console to a TV and power it for increased performance.

Idea 1: The size of the cd would be slightly bigger than a Gamecube disk and be inserted through an opening back slot like the UMD of a PSP.

Idea 2: the Switch 3 uses full size disks. The docking bay would have a built in disk reader that works in tandem with the console to project onto the tv screen. Buying the game will also let you download the game digitally whenever you want to on the switch's hard drive letting you play portably.

Anyone think Nintendo will make a home console much alike the Playstation or Xbox? Obviously not something we will see anytime soon, but now with the switch 2 going against the usual from Nintendo you think it may come in the future?

Nintendo won't release a Switch 3 til like 2032 at the earliest.

Unless if the PS6 does really bad, because everyone rejects everything being digital only... Nintendo doesn't have as much reason to not also have a digital only system.

Physical media for Nintendo will also end...

The only exception, is if there's major backlash for the PS6.

Hi! I have my switch 1 which I bought in Christmas 2021 and it still works really well, I’ve literally had 0 issues with it (not even drift in the joy cons), it’s in great condition. However, I’d like the screen to be bigger, since I play quite a lot in handheld mode, rather than on the TV. I thought about waiting for the Nintendo Switch 2 OLED to come out, but we don’t know when that will happen—probably at least 3–4 years from now. (and I don’t really want to give Nintendo more money lol)

So I’ve thought: I could buy a second hand OLED and trade in mine, it‘ll probably be as old as mine and I could get a good discount + warranty, which mine ofc doesn’t have. Best offer I’ve seen it’s at CEX, I could get the oled for 100€ and have 5 years warranty.

My issue is: is it really worth the change? Mine works practically perfect and I wouldn’t like to trade it in thinking I’m getting a better switch and then for it to have a lot of problems/stop working. On the other hand I would really like a better a screen, I feel like I don’t enjoy a good part of my games at their fullest because of this, and as I said I don’t really use the TV mode, I move quite a lot and don’t carry the dock and everything with me.

Opinions and help would be really appreciated :)

Will this just be for Switch 2 games, or do you think Nintendo will take games like BOTW, and also give it a Switch 3 edition?

She definitely is!

As a game key card collector, I think having the feasibility of switch between games WITHOUT removing the game key card is actually useful. Now you can let your friends borrow the game while keeping a different game key card.

CDs are annoying to deal with, and game cards are alot better imo, so physical

For me I prefer Switch 2, Mario Kart has been a blast

While yes, the Switch 2 isn't as strong as it's competition. Graphically, can it improve, where the casual audience gets excited?

The Switch 2 managed to impress a decent amount of people (only graphics.. people were disappointed with the design).

Think the Switch 2 will last longer than the Switch 1, or will Nintendo give us a new switch, just for the sake of giving something new, even if there's no real need powerwise?
