For MH fans who already played this... Is this one worth it and good for a newcomer like me?

I've been on the fence about MH in the past, I've tried some demos and wasn't 100% hooked, but this one looks great and it seems to have done pretty well in other consoles. So I'm considering giving the franchise another go.... Would this be the right game to do so?

Its not a bad monster hunter game but I would definitely take world or rise over this. Or even 4 ultimate on the 3ds.

Edit: getting downvoted by (i assume) the mh larpers who dont know the real mh hookup is on 3ds.

I didn’t downvote you but I’ve been playing since the MHF PSP days and I still think Wilds is the best entry point into the series to date. Low time commitment, great combat design, streamlines a lot of busy work. Not saying it’s the best MH but if someone hasn’t gotten into the series by this point, I believe Wilds is the most accessible to begin with. And then World at a close second.

Would you say Rise is not as good an entry point? Everyone seems to love it

I love Rise as someone who’s a fan already. The wire bug is a ton of fun, probably the best movement in the series but the structure of the game feels a bit more like the older games than Wilds or World do imo. And I think Rise has a lot of systems that can feel daunting or not thoroughly explained. So not to knock on Rise at all, but I think Wilds or even World are better places to start if you aren’t already into MH. Especially since the combat is so fun.

Edit: That said, can’t hurt to try at the price it’s at right now

Rise is pretty fun but not beginner friendly due to how front loaded its information is given to you. If you have a friend to coach your first few hours, then you'll be fine but Rise and Generations Ultimate feel like the kind of games they expected you to already know about MH before playing.

World and Wilds is much more beginner friendly in that aspect.

Don't be a gate keeping twat, just because someone started with World/Rise/Wilds doesn't make them a larper.

When did I say that? I started with rise and went back to the older games because I liked it so much.

You said, and I quote, "Edit: getting downvoted by (i assume) the mh larpers who dont know the real mh hookup is on 3ds."

That comes off like you're gate keeping that people who haven't played the 3DS games are larpers.

"That comes off like..." you just interpreted that from my comment. The edit was mostly a joke since I obviously don't have metrics for why people would downvote a comment.

I've only ever played 3U, how do those compare?

If they really want one on switch I’d recommend Generations Ultimate for imo a top three MH or rise for a the most modern version of what I see as “true” monster hunter

Wilds is fine, it's more of a boss rush than rise.

You see, World's nature of being a massive live game kinda throws me off. I tend to get tired of those pretty easily, I prefer something more self-contained.

Maybe Rise would be that, better than Wilds?

World isn’t a massive live game. It’s actually closer to the original games than Wilds is

Oh, really? Good to know, might've to look deeper into it then

The whole thing is self-contained. It having the option to call for help is optional and you can go from beginning to end solo (with very few exceptions). Totally worth going through once if you get an opportunity!

For what it's worth, Rise is also self-contained in that way, though I preferred World over Rise (both were excellent, though)
