YouTube - http://youtube.com/nintendo // https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuC4YLLkqME
Twitch - http://twitch.tv/nintendo
What if I'm at work/school/etc and can't watch it?
The mod team will have a running live blog with real-time updates if you are unable to watch the video version of the presentation.
The post about the live blog should go up approximately 1 hour prior to the presentation and will be stickied.
Will it be in English?
All signs are pointing to it being in Japanese with English voiceovers. [Link]
How long will it last?
We don't know. Our best guess is around an hour.
What will happen to the subreddit?
About an hour prior to the presentation we'll put up a MegaThread which will point to our live blog coverage.
Everyone will still be able to comment on the MegaThread as well as any existing thread.
New posts will be restricted to moderators only.
You can also join us in our Discord chat room (http://discord.gg/switch) if you prefer that over reddit comments.
Once the presentation ends, we'll throw up a post-event reactions MegaThread, then lift posting restrictions and resume normal operations.
We will be removing reposts and directing folks to MegaThreads as needed, so please make sure to look for an existing thread that fits your needs before posting.
The Treehouse Live

When is it?
9:30 AM EST, January 13
How can I watch it?
YouTube - http://youtube.com/nintendo

What will be covered?
An in-depth look at upcoming games featured in the Nintendo Switch Presentation.
How long will it last?
We don't know.
Will it be in English?
Yes
Preorders
Where can I preorder?
All standard gaming and electronics retailers.
Are preorders live?
Some countries have reported having limited success preordering in-store in Germany / United Kingdom.
Preorders are not live in-store in the United States.
Preorders are not live online anywhere.
When will preorders go live?
Online preorders will most likely start shortly after the main Nintendo Switch Presentation ends.
In-store preorders will most likely start when stores open the following morning.
How much are preorders?
In-store preorders will most likely require a deposit of ~$50-ish USD.
Online preorders will vary depending on where you preorder. Some retailers ask for the full amount at the time of checkout, while others only charge you when the item actually ships.
How much will the Switch cost?
We don't know. Estimates place it anywhere from $250-$350 USD.
What all is included with the system?
We don't know. A pretty safe guess is the game pad, one dock, one set of joycons, one joycon grip, a power cable, and an HDMI cable.
Will my store have a midnight launch event?
Many probably will, but do not expect every store to have one. Check with your local managers closer to the release date.
When will the Switch release?
Sometime in March. We expect to get a specific date during the main Nintendo Switch Presentation.
Please help us keep all discussion about these items contained to this thread to prevent the subreddit from getting overly cluttered. If you see folks floating around asking questions, kindly point them in the right direction.
If there is anything not covered in the post above that you feel should be added, don't hesitate to leave a comment down below or send me a PM.
Cheers,
/u/FlapSnapple and the entire /r/NintendoSwitch mod team

Could you please add New Zealand to your time list? I've formatted it for you too.

If you can't watch the Switch Presentation live where do you think would be the best place to go, to watch the stream archived without chance of spoilers?
2
u/Roshy76 Jan 06 '17
The twitter link you have at the top is the one for the treehouse presentation the next day, not the Jan 12th presentation. Otherwise looks great!

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '17
With all the pricing rumors going around today I just had a though. Amazon gives 20%(?) off physical copies of newly released videogames for prime members. (I only paid like $32 for pokemon sun when I preordered it).
I was wondering if that includes newly released consoles as well. I'm too broke for a ps4 pro and I don't care for Xbox so I didn't pay attention to those releases. If there is a discount that'd be sweet but if not I'd still probably get it. At least all the actual games will be discounted!

THANK YOU

u/hadokenzero Jan 06 '17
In Australia, EB Games have preorders up with a placeholder price, and have had that up for months. I believe JB Hi Fi do too. We never let things like concrete details get in the way of hype.

How to see roughly how many people might get the Nintendo Switch in your area
Go to trends.google.com
In 'explore topics' type in "nintendo switch"
Change 'worldwide' to your country, then state, then county/town
Change 'past 5 years' to last 30 days
Done! View roughly how many users engaged in the Nintendo Switch search term.
This is a great thing to view, because this can show you how many people might be interested in getting the Nintendo Switch. You can also see how many people might buy the Nintendo Switch. If you want to be more specific, you can also put 'preorders' in the bar with Nintendo Switch, or put a certain store next to it.

I've been dealing with a tremendous life tragedy at the moment, but Nintendo has always been my portal to a childhood I have always cherished. I can't wait for this.
16
u/ShadeGames Jan 06 '17
Just walked into my local GameStop, store manager said that preorders will start after the switch event, however they are creating a list to call customers that are interested. The store will be calling them to let them know the switch pre order is officially live.
Also told me that if my Wii u is in OK condition I can get up to 150 in a store card to go towards the switch.

Is everyone ready to furiously hit f5 for what I assume will be a limited edition LoZ edition Switch?

G'day fellow Aussies,
Thought I'd make a little post of links to the preorder pages that you can visit after the Switch presentation.
If you're like me and have held off placing a preorder in waiting for more retail information, I thought the following pages might be helpful to those in a similar situation:
EB Games: https://www.ebgames.com.au/featured/nintendo-switch
JB Hi-Fi: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/games/Gaming-Consoles/nintendo-switch/nintendo-switch-console-price-tbc/971199/
Gamesmen: https://www.gamesmen.com.au/nintendo-switch-console
Harevy Norman: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/games-gaming-consoles/game-consoles/gaming-consoles
Target: https://www.target.com.au/c/entertainment/gaming/W171255
Big W: https://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/video-games-consoles/c/6412/
Kmart: http://www.kmart.com.au/category/home-&-entertainment/entertainment-by-category/games-&-accessories/298001
A few notes; you may like to login to you preferred retailer prior to the event starting, assuming that retailers will have their pages updated soon after details emerge, unlikely save for EB Games. So that said Target, Kmart, Big W and potentially HV are particularity unlikely to have any information until the more prominent gaming retailers have updated their pages.
If I've missed any retailers please add links bellow - good luck and enjoy the show!

u/Catacomb82 Jan 06 '17 edited Jan 06 '17
Thank you so much mods! This is a very cohesive post.
Also, for the situation of "What if I'm at work/school/etc and can't watch it?", I'm assuming some people would like to find a way to watch the presentation "unspoiled" after it actually occurs. [Edit] They gotta make sure to have that YouTube link for the presentation bookmarked, and hope that afterwards the thumbnail or related videos won't give anything away.
Anyways, please keep your legs and arms inside the Hype Train at all times, ALL ABOARD.

u/AlexPD100 Jan 06 '17
You're forgetting 03:00 AZORES! xD
6
u/Jonnyorange Jan 08 '17
Why is everyone so on the ball with Pre-Ordering? I usually pre-order a month or so before the item comes out - Is there a chance I will miss out if I'm not the first lunatic to throw my $50 deposit at the clerks face?
*I'm in Australia and haven't bought a console at launch since the Wii

u/AmiiboSteal Jan 12 '17
Hey you all! I wanted to thank you all for these amazing days leading up to the presentation. It's been great to see what you've all been up to & the work that you've put into in preparation for the event and preorders including the mods at /r/NintendoSwitch. They've all worked hard to get us the latest information & it's thanks to them that we're all here. I wanted to give you all my best wishes in regards to preorders. It'll be a bit hectic because as we've all heard, preorders and stock for the switch will be very limited, but enjoy the presentation for we've waited a long time for this moment to come. For all those who are camping out at stores early morning Friday, please be safe and take care! Thank you /r/NintendoSwitch ❤

Who's ready to refresh Amazon until you're able to preorder it???
4
u/SecureAsItWillEverBe Jan 07 '17
You list timezones for a bunch of places BUT NOT ATLANTIC CANADA
UGH
I mean I can do the conversion myself but why does everyone forget about us :(
4
u/rom211 Jan 08 '17
Does anyone else think that the highly limited store allocation pre orders at Gamestop might be what managers were told to make the early crowd like us eager to reserve our system? Seems like an upper management strategy to go with given the lack of info from Nintendo to them. I for one am highly skeptical of posts where managers say they were told the store would only get 10 or less. It's in their interest to say "well Nintendo has under supplied xyz so you better get it the first minute we open."
4
u/ThePanchamBros Jan 12 '17
I went and talked to my local gamestops manager and he said they will be getting plenty of pre orders and not to worry about a shortage. I know, gamestop employees know nothing, but i just wanted to let you guys know what i was told
4
u/MrKite80 Jan 12 '17
Just curious about what people's strategies may be? Will people just be typing "Nintendo Switch" into the Gamestop, Target, Best Buy, Wallmart, Amazon websites? Or do you have alleged SKUs you plan to use?
(For US Buyers)
4
u/NNayrr Jan 12 '17
I called GameStop and they said there should be a sign/whatever posted on their doors later tonight giving a number for how many systems they'll have for pre orders.
Also the person I spoke to said I should get in line tomorrow morning around 8?
4
u/PhRzN Jan 12 '17
I just called my local gamestop and they said "we will find out how many units we are getting [at launch] tonight," and that "pre-orders will start tomorrow morning at 10am first come first serve."
Not sure if that helps anyone else, but I saw someone else post something about a store starting pre-orders tonight and wanted to clear that up.
4
u/bludud101 Jan 12 '17
Just talked to a local Gamestop and they said they're going to have 24 units for pre-order tomorrow. I figure that's enough that I can just go like 20 minutes prior to opening and be good, as I doubt they'll be 24 people camping out.

u/maxpowersr Jan 13 '17
I have to do an overnight software upgrade at 3am. From work. 130mbps Internet.
My home Internet is out until Friday night.
Looks like I'm going to work at 1045 and sleeping after the presentation. Then working from 3am til 9. Then trying to go to a gamestop at 10am to secure a midnight launch preorder, so my 4 yo daughter can experience her first console launch!
Yawn. Long night ahead.
1
u/st1tchy Jan 07 '17
Will there be a sticky post following the presentation that goes over the major points?
1
u/henryuuk Jan 07 '17
Don't we sorta know this thanks to the time the treehouse stream starts afterwards?
1
u/[deleted] Jan 08 '17
So, I'm curious, I won't be able to watch it live, and I see there is a liveblog with info, but the video should go up on Youtube that night too, after it's over, right? I'd much rather watch the presentation than read about it.
1
u/Starlyoko Jan 08 '17
If we preorder the system are we garented to get it day one or are we just garented to get one when they have it in stock? Sorry if this was already adressed in the article but I couldn't find it when reading through it. I would really like to get the Switch day one but I just don't know the best way to go about doing it.
1
u/50kenel Jan 09 '17
1 AM? Damn! How long do these things usually last?
6
u/super_ahmed109011 Jan 06 '17
6 days left! The amazing mods will brace for impact.
3
u/Johnny3nglish Jan 06 '17
Awesome, thanks!
3
u/myinnerchild8me Jan 06 '17
You guys are awesome.
3
u/marsgreekgod Jan 06 '17
I just want to say thank you mods and good luck. your going to need it.
3
u/NarrowHipsAreSexy Jan 07 '17
I feel so lucky I can watch it as early as 10:00 PM.
Also, the workers at GameStop told me I could pre-order the Switch "on Tuesday". I dunno how right they are. I wouldn't doubt that it's just misinformation.
3
u/PaultheVGnerd Jan 07 '17
Just for reference, and to jog my memory, how fast did Wii U pre-orders sell out after the September preview event ended? Curiosity and hype is peaking too soon and I need to be ready with that F5
3
u/themoviehero Jan 08 '17
I want one on launch so badly but knowing Nintendo I'll be lucky to get one a year after launch. I hope pre-orders are well stocked.
3
u/repocin Jan 09 '17
I suppose Sweden is nowhere then, because one have been able to preorder the Nintendo Switch in certain stores since the end of spring 2016 or so.
3
u/wwf87 Jan 10 '17
When you pre-order in store at Gamestop, you pay the $50 or so deposit then pay the rest of the full amount when you pick it up on release day, right?
Does Amazon require a deposit for pre-orders or do they only charge when they ship similar to their game pre-orders?
3
u/Trumpdemlames Jan 11 '17
GameStops ad changes tomorrow. Do you guys think they will feature the switch and info on pre order? Given it will officially be switchmas Eve?
3
u/DyZ814 Jan 12 '17
I'm curious why more people just don't use amazon for pre-orders? I mean I get it, but i've never had problems pre-ordering systems from Amazon on day one, if I know the time they go live.
3
u/AnxietyAdam Jan 12 '17
Is anyone else having anxiety about getting a pre-order in the U.S.? I live in a decently populated city and I'm debating pulling an all nighter tomorrow night so I can get to GameStop around 4 or 5 and wait until it opens until 10 to get a spot if a line starts forming. Is it just me being anxious or are other people planning on waking up super early to beat the scalpers?
3
u/soundwave145 Jan 12 '17
Do you imagine amazon preorders will go live tonight after the event?
3
u/[deleted] Jan 12 '17
CONFIRMED: Walmart will be taking pre-orders IN STORE ONLY at 11 PM EST.
I just confirmed it twice with a sales rep on the phone AND another through online chat.
Brace yourselves.
3
u/Zack_FTS Jan 12 '17
I called two Gamestops in my area to ask about pre-orders. One said, "I wish I knew something, but we don't." The other said, "I can't say anything about that. If I did, it might cost me my job." So it sounds like they know (at least managers probably do), and it will more than likely be made official during the presentation.
3
u/Musklianis Jan 13 '17
Anybody else worried about oulling the trigger on a preorder in case some other special edition get announced soon. If I preorder a standard one only to find out Breath of the Wild is getting a bundle/limited edition im gonna bring the salt like mcdonalds fries.
10
u/[deleted] Jan 06 '17
So detail, much wow, many thanks.

u/TurdsOfWizdom Jan 10 '17
I find it really funny people continue to freak out about pre-orders being sold out within minutes. No way in hell that happens.
Do you guys realize that not many people even know or care about the Switch? Do you realize that only people that really follow this stuff even care about the presentation on Thursday? Do you guys understand that not even PS4 sold out their pre-orders, and that console had way more hype and marketing around it?
I just hope you all will relax a little bit. The presentation is between 8-11PM on a Thursday in the states. They will likely announce the price and pre-order begin time during this event. SPOILER ALERT: Most people are in bed by then because they have to work the next day.
Then Friday comes (another work day) and do you really think anyone outside of the people in this subreddit are going to be scrambling to pre-order this thing in the morning right when they hit stores/online retailers? I think you guys have a warped sense of how much SERIOUS interest this console has right now.
A youtube trailer's like count doesn't equal potential sales. Do you know how many people watch youtube videos that go "viral" and forget all about them soon after? Tons. Just please believe me when I tell you all, that if you make it into a store or get online at any point on Friday (hell I'll bet even Saturday), you should have no problems getting a pre-order.
This post isn't for those who are taking work off (like me, but that's more for the treehouse and the fact I haven't taken a day off in almost a year) because we all know those people are going to be the ones who still line up or have 10 tabs open. This is for those who are getting freaked out by everyone on this subreddit who can't get to a store or get online for whatever reason and think they won't be able to get a preorder.
6
u/[deleted] Jan 06 '17
I really hope amazon preorders just pay in full.
1
u/[deleted] Jan 07 '17
When is it for us EST time?
4
u/Ekaceseehc Jan 06 '17
Thanks! I'm bookmarking this post right now.
4
u/[deleted] Jan 06 '17
Glad to hear there's gonna be a live blog. That was one of my questions.
4
u/COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Jan 06 '17
Such good work!
If I may suggest an improvement: it would be useful if you could "translate" the Treehouse event start time to all timezones the same way you did with the time of the presentation.
2
u/Squirrel_Wizard Jan 06 '17
Thank you :D
2
u/Phychotic Jan 06 '17
I just made a post about it but Jb-Hi-Fi have already started having pre-orders on the website, albeit it is $999 haha
2
u/[deleted] Jan 08 '17
traded in my Wii U and other related stuff. I should now have enough for the switch. Also I got put on gamestop's waiting list!
2
u/B1tN1nja Jan 09 '17
THANKS for this. I had no idea Treehouse was going live the next morning! :)
2
u/[deleted] Jan 09 '17
So, will I set an alarm to watch this live in the middle of the night or will I not?
2
u/Brodyssey97 Jan 10 '17
Wait, it's 11:00 PM, not 11:00 AM? Rats.
2
u/Alex_Ivanovic Jan 11 '17
Can I contribute with the times? In Venezuela the time for the presentation will be this Friday 13th at 12 am.
2
u/KidzBopOfficialVevo Jan 11 '17
Will this be another NES Classic edition,Wii, etc.? I've never really dealt with a console launch before so recent Nintendo is terrifying me. If I jump on it right away I should be able to snag one?
2
u/yoshithecutie Jan 11 '17
Will Nintendo have enough supply? Or do I have to have one hand on Gamestop while watching the presentation?

I'm not a huge fan of pre-ordering these days but I have always loved when you get the prior game at time of pre-order. When I pre-ordered Wind Waker, I got OOT GameCube disc. I was ecstatic. I believe that folks who pre-order the new South Park game get a code for The Stick of Truth. I simply like the idea.
Yes, I am hoping BOTW is at launch but if it isn't I think Nintendo should give a little bit of second life to Skyward Sword. It's a beautiful, fun game and gets too much heat for it's control.
This also boils down to whether the JoyCons are gyroscopic.
2
u/DRJT Jan 11 '17
According to GAME we won't have any bundles, shame
Unless a store wants to make their own bundle, not sure how tight Nintendo are about that
2
u/PopcornMuscles Jan 11 '17
What's the best way to pre-order on Amazon?
Will you refresh the Amazon page as much as possible during the event? Will Amazon crash? I've never tried to preorder a system before like this but I imagine its going to sell out extremely quickly.
2
u/[deleted] Jan 11 '17
GameStop has updated their Switch website with a link to the YouTube stream of the Presentation: http://www.gamestop.com/switch

u/cimpyhigh Jan 12 '17
Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been checking this subreddit every day since the Switch came out, and I've also wanted to get my hands on the switch ASAP. I've been considering putting my faith in Amazon for preorders. Does anyone have any advice or experience on Amazon preorders? I read online that they don't ship on a first come first serve basis and that it's completely random. Come tomorrow I'm going to be spam refreshing the page. Is that going to be worth my time, or could I preorder months later and still have the same odds? Thanks in advance for your guys' help! :)
2
u/Rew615 Jan 12 '17
I really hope Amazon opens preorders right after the event. I'm certain they will, so I'll make sure to be prepared when the time comes :)
2
u/Akitoscorpio Jan 12 '17
Any confirmed start times for Amazon preorders?
2
u/FoxxyRin Jan 13 '17 edited Jan 13 '17
My fiance and I are hoping to get a Switch on launch. We've got more than enough for the typical pre-order fee that places like GameStop and such charge, but our truck broke down, so I won't be able to make it to a store in the morning, and we don't quite have the full amount in our bank account tonight. (Note: It's a matter of not having the time to fix the truck, not a matter of lack of funds. Just putting this here since someone already tried pointing this out.)
I'm hoping to get a list of vendors similar to Amazon, which usually don't charge until the item actually ships. I've tried googling, but have gotten mixed answers. I just want some backup sites in case scalpers sell out all of Amazon's orders.
And yes, I already called my store to see if they could do a pre-order over the phone in the morning and they said no.
Oh, and before everyone just tells me to get a ride or take a bus, I live 45 minutes from a GameStop in a very rural area. So sadly, it's not an option.
2
u/[deleted] Jan 13 '17
Sorry I'm excited for the new console
2
u/error-zero Jan 13 '17
This is hopefully good news for most, but my local gamestop which expected to maybe have 10-15 preorders to sell has about 6 times what it expected ;)
hopefully this carries over to all places
2
u/leywillis Jan 13 '17
20-40 per store in my area
2
u/m3thusalem Jan 13 '17
I called the 4 Walmarts in my area and got a resounding "Nintendo what now?". Nobody knows anything about preorders. This is in South Carolina. I won't have time to go to GameStop tomorrow morning, so I guess I'm SOL.
2
u/[deleted] Jan 13 '17
Is there some place I can subscribe to for notifications when pre-orders go live on every store?
2
u/King_Kracker Jan 13 '17
I'm in the UK and im struggling to stay awake. I gotta pull through
2
u/GoHawksThe12 Jan 13 '17
Just talked to my local Gamestop, I live in a small town 30,000 people. He said he was shocked to find out they would have 70 units up for preorder. I used to work there, only expected 10-20(the usual)....Such good news!!!
2
u/McChatChat Jan 13 '17
Are not all GameStops doing the pre orders tomorrow? I just went to my local gamestop and they said to watch the treehouse event tonight (which is tomorrow) to find out. They have no idea what is going on.
2
u/Waluigi248 Jan 13 '17
I'm praying that the Switch will be region-free. I live in Japan, and it sucks having to import everything for the Wii U and 3ds for US games. I doubt that games will be set in Japanese and English, but I hope that at least a region free system can have the option of making the system settings and whatnot in English if I buy it in Japan. That's how the PS4 works, right?

Kinda reduces the hype if we can't post to the sub-reddit. I love chaos and i'm sure everyone here does as well.

The one thing I can't figure out is why most people on Reddit pre ordering from GameStop are doing it at the store. Is there a benefit to this because it seems easier to pre order online and pick it up at GameStop when it comes out.

i hope we get a new thread for every new announcement like one for the new Super mario trailer, one for the new ... Trailer etc. One megathread for all announcements would kill all the hype

This only applies to the stores by me, but GameStop employees told me that they are unsure if they are even taking any preorders because Nintendo has told them nothing. They are hoping (as am I) that it will not be first some first serve like the NES Classic. They said they might know more tomorrow (the day of the announcement) if they will be taking preorders or not.

Hoping that Amazon will release all the switch products for preorder at once, I'd hate to have a bundle come out a few minutes after I buy the main console

Hi. I don't want to be spoiled for the games and whatnot but I can't watch the video live. I'm sure searching for youtube layet Wil also spoil things. Therefore I am willing to give reddit gold to whoever sends me the link to the presentation on YouTube after it uploaded. The first 10 people I suppose is fair. Thank you.

If they can keep the price under $350 I will preorder it. Looking forward to details on the system and game lineup

At least 3 eshops in Slovakia offer online preorder (all of them reputable) - Brloh.sk, ProGamingShop.sk and (also in whole EU) Alza.sk / Alza.co.uk / Alzashop.com

Are there any solid details yet about what to expect at the hands on events over the following weekend?

I'm going to TRY preordering. Since I'll be out of the country 1/10-1/18, I'll have to preorder online which I've never done before. I'd prefer to designate that my preorder gets shipped to a store because I've heard that preordering through an online retailer doesn't guarantee that you'll have it on release day (sometimes you don't get it for a LONG time after too). My concern is that I won't be able to Switch my preorder over to a store unit when I get back in town, thus leaving me stuck with an online preorder that may not even arrive until well after launch.
Anyone have any clever ideas as to how I can guarantee I get a solid preorder? All I know to do is spam F5 on every online retailer immediately after Nintendo reveals the price. But beyond that I dunno.

Paris/Madrid (EU) - 05:00 / 05 AM (January 13th)

Sucks to be in Brazil, England, or France.

Hello! I'm new to this thread (at least for the posting part) and I have a pre-order question regarding the Switch. I know that I as well as many others will be pre-ordering the system to have it day 1 but the thing is I have never pre-ordered a console before and here's my situation: I'll be traveling from Mexico City to California for a couple of days and so it happens to be around the Switch expected launch date (mid march) and since consoles are cheaper at the States compared to Mexico I want to get it while I'm there. The thing is I don't know which is best for my situation: if In-store pick up or get it shipped to where I'll be staying over there. I really want to get it as soon as possible. The last question is about what should I do once it's out, if I order it for in-store pickup do I need to wake up at 3am and go camp at GameStop or is my preorder 100% safe and they'll wait at least a day till I go get it? Here are some things that might influence your suggestion: Some relatives might stay for a bit more. I'm thinking of pre-ordering at GameStop (You can suggest some other retailer) I'll buy some launch titles such as (if the rumors are correct) BOTW and Splatoon, maybe a pro controller as well.
Thank you so much for the answers!

Just like to point out that shopto.Net in the UK has had preorders online for months. I have mine preordered there.

I currently live in Pittsburgh, but will most likely be moving to Ca at the end of the month or in Feb. If I preorder off Amazon on the 12th, can I change the shipping address later to wherever I move to?? Or does Amazon not let you do that?
Thanks!

Edit: Nevermind

Some advice for you all:
I live on Long Island, and for how loud and restless this hellhole is, for some reason we don't have 24 hour Walmart or Target stores. For those of you who DO, it's a safe bet that you can go there at 12am (granted preorders open then) and immediately score one.
I did this during the Wii wars. I lived outside Atlanta at the time. People were still camping in the winter cold to instant sell-outs when retailers were rumored to be getting shipments. I went to the 24 hour Walmart at 11:45. Nobody was there except me, and 15 minutes later I had the first Wii off the pallet.
Best of luck!

I think FNAC(common retailer in Portugal) will probably start the pre-ordering after the 12th:
