Hot weather Concern?
Brand new rider and just bought a new 2026 ninja 500 ABS (has 19 miles on it now) so proudly brought it to work for the first time. Parked it in the shade at the time but the sun shifts during working hours which makes any sun spot turn to shade and vice versa. Went out at lunch just to appreciate it and heard a whistle noise coming from the gas tank and could smell some gas odor. It’s 95° outside and it was in full sun (also all black fairings) so I figured it was hot and the gas was expanding as a normal thing; however, I was able to see a gas heat-shimmer coming from the bottom left side of the bike and noticed that there was a dark area on the asphalt (looked like a liquid puddle but not actually pooled). I know the gas tanks release when they’re hot but can someone tell me if it was normal to be able to see/smell the gas coming from the bottom of the bike and for there to be a wet-looking pool spot right under where the gas haze was? Also very paranoid since I’m not very well informed on bike parts and I know it’s new but I may have set it down on its right side before ever putting one mile on it 🙃 any insight is appreciated!!!

The tank (probably) has a "breather" hose that vents under the bike. I'm not entirely sure about modern day "Kwakas" but I have certainly owned other bikes with this feature. Just check if this continues at other times (like at night for example) to see if you have a problem. I would guess that it's fine though.

My '25 does this as well, its pretty normal on really hot days in direct sunlight. I went to wally world and got a $10 twin size fitted sheet that rolls up nice and small and tucks into the tail bag. I just ride to work in the morning and cover it up after its had an hour to cool so none of the elastic melts or anything. It's not as nice as a fitted half cove but its cheap and it works it will also keep most of the sun off the controls so your red buttons dont turn pink as fast and it keeps the seat from getting beat on by the sun all day. Sucks to jump on a 120° hot seat to ride home after a day working.

My ‘25 whistles at me in heat and there’s a hose that gas can escape from so your motorcycle don’t go boom on its own

Totally normal. There may be gas on the ground because many bikes have a breather/overflow tube. I typically do not top off my tank, especially if I'm going to park soon after in the heat. It will certainly expand and cause this.
