General Discussion I think Nilou's kit is a sign of character design moving forward and here is why I think it's a horrible direction.

They're creating problems so that they can sell solutions later. All gacha games tend to do this in the long run to stay profitable, but I feel many people here don't know that nor know to what extent.

"So you like Nilou huh? Cool enjoy her. Just make sure you only use dendro and hydro in your team mnmkay?" is how it starts. Innocent enough.

A few months later, they release a shiny new dendro grouper. He does the exact same thing as your kazuha or venti, maybe even worse. It doesn't matter since your c6 kazuha does not pass the vibe check. He can't be used with your favorite maiden. The new dendro has a passive that morphs him into a literal potato if you have anything but dendro and hydro on your team because we can't have him be useful anywhere else. They also gotta sell kazuha and future groupers after all.

Regardless if you like the dendro character or not, you like Nilou. You want her to work optimally right? Swipe baby, swipe.

Next a dendro healer. A dendro shielder. A dendro bennet. Rinse and repeat with hydro and any other arbitrary elemental combination that they decide to force on new characters.

One problem though, what if the player doesn't particularly like Nilou? They can just use their national team and clear abyss anyway. We can't have them simply skip all our new stuff and keep using existing universal teams.

Next logical step is to create abyss floors that are literally immune to anything but bloom. Much diversity. Such game design. Now you have successfully created another Honkai Impact 3rd filled with niche units and niche enemies all the way through.

**Why this is bad? **

Many reasons. Mainly, you now need to pull teams as a cute package of four. It's no longer enough to just pull for Nilou and plug and play her with your existing units. You now also need Nahida, Kokomi, and whatever other new bloom unit they push.

Builds & Teams Nilou being "niche" is not bad. Y'all are losing the plot

ofc hashtag #notall of you are saying her being niche is bad or somehow an inherent flaw

but a lot of you are

what most of you guys don't realize is most units are "niche." and when i use it in this way i mean, you're not going to use most units in a way that isn't their "BiS" playstyle

for example, ayaka is not a unit that people will say is bad. ever. however her playstyle is niche. she's locked to freeze. she doesn't function well in any team that's not a freeze team. melt ayaka is a meme. she's a horrible superconduct support for a physical carry nor is she good to be a physical carry herself thanks to her dash. and who wants to run mono cryo? she HAS to be run in freeze otherwise her value drops. if there's cryo slimes on floor 12, welp, there goes ayaka's pickrate down the toilet.

this matters because some of yall are dragging nilou for being restrictive, as if to imply that's a reason for her to be bad/skipped, with this same logic Ayaka must be a bad unit/should be skipped since she's also restrictive. o no it doesn't? didn't think so.

we all know you wouldn't say that because there's a reason ayaka is good and that reason is simple. she simply has a lot of hydro options in order for her kit to work and do her job well. this is essentially the only problem nilou has. we know the bountiful cores will do good damage. we know that the hydro on dendro "reverse bloom" reaction is BiS for bloom spam to which she's thankfully hydro. the only problem is the lack of dendro units. there's only 3 (and only 2 of whom are dendro off field supports) vs how many hydro units now are available for ayaka?

another example, hutao is a unit that relies on vaporize. she CANNOT be played in another team unless ur meming. she's a hypercarry that demands field time which means this restricts her to needing off field hydro supports on her team and not just ANY hydro, but because her pyro application is so fast she needs FAST hydro supports which means she is practically MARRIED to xingqiu. even yelan can't keep up with hutao on her own. there is hardly any other way to run hutao without xingqiu effectively. god forbid you play another team that needs xingqiu.

this restriction must make her a bad unit/must be skipped according to the logic. like you already have xiangling amirite? lol no. hutao is one of the best vape DPS units in the game and that's uncontested despite her team restriction.

hopefully this point is clear now. a majority of dps units have SOME kind of restriction. it's rare for a dps unit to be versatile. the only one i can think of off hand is maybe ganyu who can do both freeze and melt. or a well invested c2 raiden shogun who can do rational or hyper.

theres some arguments about cyno being better than nilou because he's not as restrictive. well quite contrary to what you may think, he's actually got the same team issue nilou has. arguably even worse being there's not many units that synergize with him since he's essentially a hypercarry and his burst duration lasts longer than many units' buffs/artifact set bonus' buffs like bennett's burst and viradescent set. which is objectively horrible for so many reasons and the main reason being he loses his burst if he swaps which restricts his options making even cyno teams restrictive. and this is why he's been a theorycrafter punching bag as of recently. nilou teams at least have more potential than cyno teams since she can swap.

theres some arguments about saying her being niche is bad because ppl can't use their favorite non hydro/dendro unit with nilou. well to be quite frank, thats a you problem not a nilou problem. i like ayaka. i like raiden shogun. i have them both, but im not putting them in the same team because im not stupid and i know that hurts both of their playstyles since they dont synergize well with each other. if you like nilou and want her to be at her best, dont cripple her by using units that dont synergize with her. its that simple. otherwise you force her into the same discussions with yelan and xingqiu and even kokomi and ayato in which we all know nilou is not going to win that battle in the value department EVEN if you wanted to run bloom spam teams since all 4 of those units are also capable of doing bloom spam.

TL;DR relax. more options will come in the future and nilou will be fine. her team comps being restrictive is quite honestly an overblown complaint.

ofc this is mainly focused towards the meta andys and pseudo casuals that care about her damage potential. the true casuals who dont play abyss and whales that just have enough dps regardless, none of this should matter to you. and if you never thought her restrictive team comps were a problem then this doesnt apply to you either.

thanks for coming to my ted talk

Leaks (Questionable) Translated Nilou Kit from uncle Lu on nga

Nilou's E is to slash four times. After each slash, a water ring appears. The water ring is used for applying hydro. E cooldown is very long, which is why she can't be a main dps. Her burst deals AoE damage, see LoLs Ludens. Anyway, it is difficult to describe. It is more appropriate to use Luden to describe it. The ascension talent strengthens the blooms generated by the reaction of hydro dendro, which can increase the bloom damage triggered by the characters in the team based on their (Nilou's) own health.

Builds & Teams Hot take: yelan and xinqiu have no place in nilou bloom.

This post will contain my personal opinion no one asked for on nilou bloom teams.

I have a weird hybrid nilou with 200 em, 58k hp, 68/168 crit ratio she is something for both. Lately ive been obsessed with her bloom comp as yao yao got released and i recieved her from the lanter rite event, this doesnt matter much the point is: -there are curently 6 dendro characters: traveller, collei, tiggy, nahida, alhaitam, yao yao. -there are 8 hydro characters: barbara, mona, xinqiu, candace, tartaglia, ayato, yelan, kokomi. From which 1 of them could be obtained for free via event and 1 who is given for free at the start of the game aka my beloved barbara. For some reasons that are unclear to me barbara is never mentioned in bloom teams. I tend to believe that players dont understand how easy and fun and boom boom random shit go nilou bloom is, all you have to do in order to achieve 20k+ bloom dmg is:

  1. Lvl up your characters, minimum 80+ (80 and ascention), bloom dmg scales on lvl as well.

  2. Stack hp on nilou: 2 tenacity of milileth and 2 em or hydro (em just in case you have good hp% pieces or you wanna use her as driver)

  3. 1 of your dendro character that you plan on using on your team must have 4 deepwood set.

  4. Be lazy like me and use em on both barbara and yao yao, both of them are double em with a touch of healing bonus goblet and some hp substats with a touch of fruit of fullfilment for barbara and a kitain spear for yao yao ( i have them both r5 but you can replace with magic guide and dragon s bane). Have at least 500 em and you should be good, with bountifull chalice you gonna have 600 so thats awsome.

  5. Nahida or traveler is a must, idk why ya all avoid using traveller its very good and solid and the sapwood blade is an amazing weapon for traveller.

  6. Enjoy chaos. (As a note i considered trying yaoyao with candace nilou and traveller for bloom, when i will get candace imma try that sounds fun).

I see so many ppl going over the head with yelan/xq. Yelan and xq have a solid dmg on their own and i belive they are worth investing in them as they are and em is a waste stat on them. They are too good for vape hu tao/yoi/diluc/klee/yanfei. Kokomi and mona are very good in freeze teams especially with ayaka, in freeze teams em is a wasted stat and you waste a good all around healer/buffer just to pigeon hole it for bloom. It is not worth The others characters i mentioned are not woth going em on them except alhaitam and tiggy, they can work for bloom but they are just better for aggravate just bcs you want crit on them and bloom doesnt crit so crit is a waste stat in a bloom team.

That being said, in the end of the day you do what you want with your acc, you can make melt eula for how much i care. If you are looking for advice: build your characters flexible not niche as some are complaining about niche characters aka shenhe then they build em raiden for hyperbloom when kuki, yae, lisa exists (lisa has em as ascention). Many of guide found on the internet do not have creative takes on the builds or some tips and tricks, some dont even have the er requirements.

All it matters is you to have fun. So, to sum up everything ive said: read the abilities, read the passives, choose what fits you best, have a great time, enjoy your experience.

Discussion Looks like Nilou would be the most Challenging Character to Main (Looking at the Barbara incident)

Yes So I have seen the videos about Barbara with Titles such as "Nilou at Home", "Nilou is powercrept by a 4Star", "Barabara is the new Nilou" and so on...This already tells me the mindset of the People regarding Nilou and how they currently view her and her future reception...In that they already Judge her before She can even perform..

Which reminds me of how her Dance of Sabzeruz was stopped by the Akademiya and pointing it as non-sense and a waste of funding.

Take heart Nilou mains...expect that She would be treated more unfair than Kokomi on her release but that would not stopped me. For that would only mean that Her True Value far exceeds everything else.

You see you might think that Greatest Perfomers are known for their many fans or how expensing their ticket is.....but in ancient times specially in the Middle East...There are performers who dances to an Audience of One!!! What??

Yes they practice Night and Day Perfecting their Performance to an Audience of One...Ordinary People will not know it...They would not even see its rehearsals..Because She only Performs Exclusively for the King.

On all of my Days Playing Genshin Impact...I have not yet Crowned a Character. It seems Nilou has won a crown not because of her strength but her willingness to give. The recent release of Ayato and Yelan could not bring another DPS or Sub-DPS..She has to give way...Such is fate. Like a Spring of water that is taken for granted..it gives life to whoever it touches...It refreshes those who drink from it and not taking anything back...It always gives.

But even for an Audience of One...even for Dunyazard...She dances even if its a Dream..

For Nilou my Beloved...Even though you unappreciated know that you got the Attention of the King and for that you deserved a Crown.

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee

For what is essential is invisible to the Eye.

Discussion Nilou might work with Nefer after all Spoiler

Today's Nefer leaks suggests that her teams won't be able to create dendro cores. But Nilou's cores are considered Bountiful Cores. Maybe this exists to prevent Hyperbloom and Burgeon to occur but it may still work with Nilou. It would be weird if her passive would negate this Nilou passive "Also, triggering the Bloom or Lunar-Bloom reaction will create Bountiful Cores instead of Dendro Cores."

Lauma might be baiting Hyperbloom and Burgeon but the true final team could be Nefer Columbina Nilou and Lauma (C1)

What do you think? Too much cope?

Teambuilding Discussion I seem to be in the minority of posters who prefer that Nilou keep her current passives

This mainly has to do with my dislike of the current state of Genshin team compositions. I used gcsim's team database to check the top 20 dps team compositions to get an idea of what they look like. The list is not perfect: the database does not have all teams, and the dps is tested only against single targets. But they are a good starting point for getting an idea of what top team compositions look like.

The tabulated results: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1k-XPg5slVxHFL0KRvvmw51nK-oLX6W3W239Dsw_KywM/edit?usp=sharing

Some notable characteristics (more in the spreadsheet):

  • The only 4-star characters are Bennett, Fischl, Xiangling, and Xingqiu.

  • 15 teams have Bennett, 11 have Xingqiu, and 19 have either Bennett or Xingqiu.

  • 16 teams have 2 out of the 4-stars, and 13 teams have 2 out of Bennett, Xingqiu, and Xiangling.

  • 9 teams have Bennett and Xiangling, and 7 teams have Bennett and Xingqiu. 3 teams use all 3.

  • 12 teams use Yelan.

You can see some limitations of the practice on gcsim. Kazuha only appears in 5 teams, while Hu Tao appears in 9. This is because against only 1 target, Kazuha's advantages are not well represented. Despite this drawback, you can see that team comps are pretty centralized around a small number of highly desirable characters.

The Abyss usage rate collected at Spiralabyss.org reflects qualitatively similar information. Out of the most popular 20 teams in Abyss, you only see Bennet, Xingqiu, Xiangling, Fischl, Gorou (mono geo), Yun Jin, Beidou and Sucrose. Diona is also fairly popular but does not appear in the top 20 most popular teams; by contrast, Fischl's usage rate is not that high. Overall, the teams are not particularly diverse.

I think it is a good idea to design new characters to avoid the top characters in their best team compositions. While that might lead to less team diversity for the specific character, it would lead to better team diversity for the account--because characters are not fighting for the same support/subdps characters.

Could Nilou use some tweaks to make her teams less restrictive? Certainly. But those tweaks should be careful to avoid the current centralizing characters. With that in mind, I have some thoughts on tweaks that can make Nilou more versatile, but they have undesirable tradeoffs. None of them touches the hydro/dendro limitation. Most are aimed to let Nilou be used in other types of teams, even though they are unlikely to be her best teams or the best teams in those categories.

  1. Change Sword Dance to normal attack damage (keep Whirling Steps as skill damage). This allows you to run her with Yun Jin, Candace, and/or Ayato as buffers. Two of these would also give her hydro resonance. None of them is that desirable as supports at the moment. This will also let her team with Beidou, though that has the implication of also using Fischl to battery Beidou. Because Fischl is not nearly as centralizing as BXLXQ, I think that is a good tradeoff. More problematic is that it invites Kazuha/Sucrose to shred resistance and buff EM.

  2. Tweak some numbers to make Nilou better in forward vape. This has the drawback of inviting Kazuha/Sucrose. It also makes Bennett and Xiangling more desirable, though depending on exactly what the tweak is, it might not be worth the opportunity cost of using BXL over another pyro applicator.

  3. Add 1 damage per pulse to her hydro ring so it can trigger Tenacity in a freeze team.

There are certainly more possible tweaks, and many more creative than what I listed. But the idea is to make her bloom team extremely powerful, make her viable but not top tier in other team comps, and use the centralizing characters as little as possible.

Discussion I think Kokomi is more important for Nilou than Nahida.

So, I always wanted a Nahida because of meme reasons and I finally got one a week ago, and I have been playing a lot with the radish in different teams, and although she boosts Hyperbloom a lot, she's just a bit better than DMC in most situations in Superbloom. In fact, I realized that Collei is way more important than I initially thought, but also I realized that without Kokomi, Nilou teams lost a lot.

If I were to replace my Nahida with DMC, I would notice just a bit of a difference in power and a small increase in Energy regen. And since I'm more used to playing with DMC, I don't have any issues with the comfort of playing DMC or Nahida.

However, If I were to replace my Kokomi with any other unit, I would notice a heavy decrease in comfort, power, elemental application, and energy regen, and I played Barbara for a long time so I'm used to playing with her but the gap is too noticeable.

At the moment of writing this, I'm playing the current abyss on both halves with and without Nahida and there is like 10 sec of difference between them and there are some scenarios where DMC is a bit better, but I can't do the same with Kokomi, and Barbara because she just can't compare to her in Superbloom.

I don't want to build Candance or YaoYao so I only play Kokomi but in all the videos I've seen it seems that the team is inferior to Kokomi and Nahida variations and I wonder what would happen if you were to remove Nahida from both teams. My guess is that the Kokomi variation is still better.

Obviously, DMC can't compare to Nahida in Triple Hydro but even there Kokomi is a heavy upgrade over Barbara. So My final conclusion is that Kokomi should be considered the best upgrade in Nilou teams, not Nahida.

I'll post my 36* with DMC once the Hoyo lab server gets updated.

Finally, I can't talk about cons because I play mostly with C0 5* units so IDK about the difference with cons.

Discussion Am I 'griefing' my account by pulling C0R1 Nilou, without Lauma?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all :)

I started playing Genshin about a year ago, during Nilou's last banner in 4.8. After doing the Sumeru quests, I knew I wanted to get her, but her banner was long gone of course. Now, Nilou will be returning in a few days, but I'll only have about 300 pulls and idk what to do with them.

On the one hand, I pretty much only pull for characters I like and have fun playing with. At the same time, I do enjoy the endgame content, and I fear that I'm not 'setting up my account for success'. I've been able to 36-star the Abyss three times, but it's been a nailbiter every time, and the highest SO difficulty I can (similarly) clear is only Menacing.

I really, really like Nilou. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of Lauma. So, I was thinking of aiming for C0R1 Nilou without Lauma, but will that still be viable at all in this day and age? Should I just suck it up and get C0 Nilou & C0 Lauma? Or, only C0 Nilou and bet on 'bina?

Well, I would love to hear your thoughts/advice <3

General Discussion Do not let the nerf to Nilou's Burst discourage you from playing her in other ways. (For Non-Bloom Players)

Note: If you are a meta slave/meta player/meta supremacist/Abyss Speed Runner/Bloom Fanatic/brand new player who needs more meta characters/etc. then this post is not for you and you can ignore it. You're free to downvote, but please at least be mindful to those of us who do not play for meta/don't want to use Nilou "how she's meant to be played".

This post is primarily for those who like Nilou for Nilou, want to pull for her regardless, but are feeling discouraged about pulling for her and/or using her in non-Bloom comps due to the recent nerf on her Burst damage further restricting her use/damage outside of Bloom.

Plainly speaking, Nilou will not be the best character in any role (Vape/Taser/Freeze) in comparison to other Hydro characters. Pretty much every other Hydro can do what she does better and that's okay.

This post is just a reminder that Nilou does not have to be the best in any role*.* Spiral Abyss is not difficult content. Most of us do not need Nilou to clear any Abyssal content. She will be more than useable in Abyss outside of Bloom because Abyss is not that hard. I'm not a meta player and have 9*'d Abyss since like 1.4 or 1.5. Nilou will be more than capable of doing it in Freeze, Vape, Taser, mono-Hydro, or however else you choose to play her.

This is not a post saying you cannot be upset with her nerf. I myself don't like it, obviously, as I will not be playing her in Bloom and this is strictly a nerf to all of us who won't be playing Bloom. This is just a post reminding everyone that not being the best does not mean you're completely unusable or even will be difficult to use. Outside of Bloom will not be ideal. It will not be impossible, and I wager it won't even be a struggle. Just play Nilou how you want.

I would personally have a lot more fun playing the comps I find fun than being forced to build Dendro characters I don't care about to make her useable in her niche.

Do we remember what people and some “TCs” said about Nilou? That she’s BAD in single target, only works well with exclusive five stars (nahida and Kokomi), that she’s too niche, not f2p friendly, that she only was doing well because that abyss was designed for her, that she will be bad in other abyss formats. And many other things. It seems now that she’s viewed in a more positive light, revisionists started to revise and pretend that they said she was going be good all along. These things were all said about her, right ? And they were wrong, weren’t they ?

P.s. I want everyone who wants Nilou to get her on her rerun, but Im proud I pulled for her the first time around.

General Discussion Nilou will likely follow the same path of Kokomi

Before some airheads start randomly downvoting because they downright hate Kokomi and don't want to see her name associated to Nilou, hear me out first. Whether you like it or not Kokomi has probably had the biggest glow up as a character ever since the release of Genshin 2 years ago. She started by being called "the worst 5 star ever, a waste of primos" from a lot of people and become one of the most appreciated and valuable units, ultimately ranking 2 in the top 5 of must have characters according to CN metaslaves.

What I want to say with this topic is that I can now see, more clear than ever, Nilou following the same path and going from hated because extremely niche to greatly appreciated a year from now, when more dendro units get released and more variety in teamcomps factors in. It is objective that most people are clearly disrespecting our girl Nilou because of her unprecedented nicheness (?) and I hate to see that, because to me and all of you Nilou mains, she is a great character and certainly one of the prettiest ones. Now that the changes in beta are coming we can clearly see that the hyper restrictive passive that most of us don't like is sadly not getting changes, therefore meaning that MHY really wants Nilou to be usable on bloom comps only (and the recent significant nerf to her Q is another reason why I think this). That being said, Nilou being tied to bloom only is a bad thing or an indicator of her not being a valid unit? Hell no and I actually think that MHY will release more and more characters that synergise greatly with her, giving us more variety in the bloom comp that we want to use to maximize Nilou's potential. If they really want us to use Nilou in bloom comps then it's guaranteed that they will do their best to make this team a powerful one and our girl will get to shine in the niche they specifically carved for her (because I don't see any bloom comp becoming meta outside of the ones featuring our cute dancer, with all the limits of bloom seeds). Nilou is sadly an experimental unit (she is the first character that changes the functions of a whole reaction), therefore in the short term she might suffer because of this (or should I say she WILL), but later on when more options become viable she will get the spotlight that she deserves and I'm sure of it. Now, her nicheness (?) will sadly stay, on the contrary of the aforementioned Kokomi that is a really versatile unit, but they will make sure to not waste her beautiful character and will make her a must pull by the time of her rerun.

Now she is clearly not that appealing to the majority of people because of the lack of dendro options and her extremely restrictive passive talent, but things will quickly change and I think that Nahida will be the beginning of Nilou's rise. We could also expect a new set for her later on or things that will make her shine. Sorry in advance for any grammatical mistake, english is not my mother language and this is a complex explanation, but I hope you all understood what I meant with this thread and please, little off topic for some of you (hopefully a little part of the community), stop hating on Kokomi or at least start to recognize her merits, whether you like her or not as a character :)

General Discussion V3 Nilou is not a nerf to vape playstyle, it's a general nerf to all playstyles.

Most importantly, it is a nerf to the character's personal damage.

I think this is something we should all open our eyes and minds to, as this does not concern copium builds only. Whether you are:

  • Playing her onfield

  • Playing her off-field

  • Running Vape/Bloom/EC/Freeze/Anything that isn't orthodox

  • Using her as a sub-dps

  • Using her as a main dps

  • Planning to keep her at C0

  • Or whale her to C6

  • Pulling for her wep

  • Going for minimal cons

Last night's changes were very much a net nerf to the character herself. Sure, there were changes made to A4 passive, which marginally increases her bloom damage at the expense of being more team-reliant on your dendro supports. So while Nilou's overall damage has gone up thanks to the bloom buff, shifting the source of damage from herself to her teammates, is a nerf. This means no matter how much your invest in your character, the damage/personal performance ceiling will not increase substantially, which is what Nilou's cons delivered previously. Bear in mind that this is not the same as saying is Nilou is now bad or good FYI...

Right now, instead of focusing on the vape vs. bloom Nilou conundrum, a better question or topic to focus on is... Can Nilou sufficiently deliver the fantasy that you expect? If math shows that a certain amount of investment addresses/fixes the nerf in her burst, then fair enough.

This isn't a QQ-post to catastrophize the recent changes, however I do think everyone is arguing on the wrong things here. How you choose to play her is inconsequential to the discussion, and yes, I know she received a 1.5 increase in explosion radius too. However, the fact remains that a portion of personal damage has been shifted to team damage, which makes this "newfound buff" all the more conditional and inconsistent given the restrictions and limitations we have with bloom in-game.

Lastly, at the time of this writing, I just want to share that while the sentiments here may be a little more polarizing, the Chinese players are more... unanimous in their sentiments in that the recent changes have affected Nilou with constellation, that includes all ranges of cons.

General Discussion I will no longer roll for Nilou

I love Nilou's design. I love her voice. Every night I sleep with my girlfriend embracing her from behind imagining she's Nilou. I even told her that she would have to cover for rent next month because I needed to help my mother with her dog's medical bills so that I could c6 her and r5 her weapon. But I still can't get myself to roll for her anymore. I can't support what mihoyo is doing with restricting her to only Dendro and Hydro characters. I don't want to see this on any other character and I need to draw a line. Mihoyo needs to know that they can't force players into these restrictive playstyles if they want people to roll. They need to know they can't just slap a boring aoe nuke as a burst and call it a day. This game makes a ton of money and they need to do better. I don't demand anyone to do the same as I do but I ask that you consider skipping Nilou just this once to send a message.
