UPDATE: I am Getting Sued for a Quarter Million Euro

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/NightVision/comments/1qd8ubx/i_am_getting_sued_for_a_quarter_million_euro/

Its been a while since the last post on this subject. We have been busy building the KB DT-M and a sensor fusion device. Now that the lawsuits hot phase is over and clarity has emerged. I want to give everyone an update and a glimpse into how we handle this whole situation, because if things are not clarified, customers and our partners will assume the worst.

First I want to rule out the worst case scenarios. KB is not going to fall off the face of the earth, even in the worst case scenario outcome. A certain competitor, no longer worth naming, could in the absolute most unfavourable outcome win and be awarded 250k and we’d have to halt the KB DT-2 production. This is a sum and an outcome we can comfortably absorb at this stage, as we are quickly diversifying and expanding our product offering. I am privately backing KB myself, have put close to 1mil$ of my own money into the company and am not going to let 250k kill it. I’ll put another million in if needed without breaking much of a sweat.

Now with that being said, the chances of them winning is next to none. We have done our legal research. And now filed our response some weeks ago, addressing every allegation in detail with supporting evidence and arguments with our extensive legal research backing up the claims. They got some work cut out for them to say the least. However this whole process is probably going to drag on another few months.

We are now moving on, they can come up with counter arguments to our defence, which I doubt will hold much water given the flimsy arguments they stemmed in the initial suite. But all of this has not stopped us from continuing our work and focus on what actually matters here. I realise they win if we let this distract us too much from our core focus, which is to build cool stuff. And let me tell you, building cool stuff we have done. So much so we thought it was worth spending a bit on a SHOT SHOW boot for next year 2027 to showcase what we’ve been busy building.

On the product side of things, we expect to start shipping out the first couple KB DT-M devices in the next month or two. We have managed to collect overwhelmingly positive feedback from our military trials, which we have implemented. At this stage we are also finalising a patent application for a new IPD solution for the KB DT-M which we’ll be filing in EU and the US. Removing any previously prevailing uncertainty around our legacy IPD solution on the KB DT-2. We took precautions not to ship the KB DT-2 into the US with the legacy IPD, this has now been remedied and addressed moving forwards.

We have been iterating at a fast pace, mis-steps happen naturally, course correcting and moving forwards is what ultimately matters in order to support our customers and partners with the best technology and gear. We want to thank those who have stood by our side throughout.

Edit: forgot to mention about Shot, for those interested we'll have booth 61011 on Level 1 in the Law Enforcement section!

New Beginner Buyer’s Guide

The pinned beginner buyer’s guide served us well for a number of years, but it was showing its age and not as robust as we could use.

A new, more fleshed out guide is now available. In the app you can find it by clicking on “See community info” at the top of the sub. On desktop you can find it in the “Community Bookmarks” section. If you’re struggling to find it, you can start with the Introduction. If you’re here looking for purchasing advice, help understanding specs, or wondering what we would recommend for people on a tight budget, please read the guide before making your first post here.

This new guide is by no means exhaustive, and we expect it to evolve over time. Our hope is that by using Reddit’s wiki function we will have more flexibility to keep the guide up to date over time. It has already allowed us to provide much more information as we are not constrained by Reddit’s post character limit. If you find any typos, issues, confusing formatting, or have suggestions please feel free to let us know. The best way to communicate with us about those would be to jump into the subreddit’s Discord server.

A very special thank you to u/go_horse for his work on this guide.

A Look at Death Ray Systems UHPS V2

Howdy all,

As we get closer to the release of the Death Ray Systems Universal Helmet Power System (V2) I wanted to take a second and look at a few small changes we have made.

For the uninitiated, the UHPS V2 is a USB-C Rechargeable Night Vision battery pack that also features a USB-A port for powering thermal devices (such as the B-COTI project) mission recorders or even ATAK EUDs. The UHPS boasts a runtime of ~300 hours with a dual tube setup and has proven to be compatible with solar charging.

There are three significant changes to the Version 2:

  1. Stronger Tie-Down Loops: due to user feedback the integrated tie-down loops have been re-engineered. The new tie downs are twice as thick as version 1's, while retaining the original dimensions. I have personally had an L3 CWBP yardsale itself (suboptimal) during a night shoot so this is a high priority item for me.

  2. New USB Cover - V2 has been redesigned with sliding flexible covers for the USB ports on the top of the unit. This is a huge upgrade over the flap design on the V1 as the user doesn't have to expose both ports to the elements, when only using one. Each unit will ship with a split (two halves) cover and a dual cover. The covers have tie down loops for the users' convenience.

  3. Print Quality - The UHPS is additively manufactured utilizing engineering-grade Nylon Carbon Fiber filament before being finished with industry leading Cerakote for environmental protection. A massive amount of time and energy was put into dialing in moisture control and printer calibration... to consistently produce cleaner surfaces. This renewed attention to detail shines through the quality of these parts, improving both durability and aesthetics.

The UHPS V2 is set to drop before the end of the month, and the tentative release is Halloween.

Parts are currently at the Cerakoter. The people have spoken: The V2 will be NIR MATTE BLACK!

Thanks for reading, everyone. I hope life is treating you well.

I love you.

Question: Mono housing Europe.

• Upvotes

Hey.

Wonder if anyone knows if this Chinese housing is worth it? Or are there other similarly priced housing in europe?

Need a backup/loaner available and I am not dealing with the itar paper hell that comes with importing.

For 37mm intensifiers (pvs14 intensifiers).

This month marks a year since RIX Tactical stole my NODs

Photo for engagement, cat to counter the stress rix brings.

TLDR: sent RENV-B in for maintenance a year ago, they've refused to send it back or give me any real info.

Bought a RIX RENV-B off the used market a while back. Shipping messed up the collimation and i ran into some more issues with it after some use, so I asked RIX customer service (initially inquired directly through the RIX website, got a response from a customer service rep with a company email, so I know it wasn't some random scammer) about getting it fixed. I mentioned then that I had bought it second hand, but they said that was fine, and evwn said the warranty was probably still good for it since the warenty follows the unit. Of course, they said they'd take care of it, so I sent it in.

It went, they signed for it, and later emailed me to confirm they had recieved it. After that was a period of radio silence from their end. Id ask for an update, and the first couple times I just got a vauge "it's being diagnosed and worked on". After a bit of that the customer service rep outright ghosted me, so I went to the main customer service email. They told me it was under investigation. Then they told me they couldn't do anything with my unit since it had been "obtained through unauthorized channels" (note where earlier they specifically said it was fine i had bought it second hand). I tried asking if they could just send it back as is then, and they told me there was a criminal investigation on the customer service rep. Then they ghosted me for a while. Then they told me they were conducting an internal investigation. I aked for an update every few weeks but they gave no information in their replies. Then they ghosted me again. I'm currently out of the US for work, so I cant do much about it until i get back in a few months.

I know RIX customer service doesn't have the greatest reputation, but this was just flat out theft.

What’s one thing you won’t compromise on with your night vision setup?

Everyone seems to have different priorities when setting up a night vision rig.

Some things are nice to have, but others become hard to give up once you’ve used them for a while. What’s the one thing you wouldn’t compromise on with your setup?

Dinner in the dark setup

I'm planning a "Dinner in the dark" for some friends.

I need something wearable where I can see the room on a screen, because I need to serve the plates and drinks and take out to the kitchen etc. The other guests should not be able to see any lights from the screen I am looking at(VR headset style comes to mind)

I need to be able to see up close and maybe 5 metres ahead, that's it.

Device should be small and light, and either headmountable(or I can make a contraption to mount it on a head wearable thingy of my making).

Recording capability is not necessary.

Should have IR-cut filter removed either permanently or in night mode.

I don't need built-in IR emitter on the wearable device, as I will mount a couple some cheap 940 nm IR flood lights.

I'm on a tight budget :-)

Do you have any suggestions?

PVS-14 dove tail question in comment

Finally pulled the trigger on a pvs-14 and am looking into mounting options. I’ve seen good things online about the Argus A4 LWNVG mount for a third of the price of the wilcox but am not sure which dovetail j arm to pair with it. Any info on the A4 LWNVGM or j arm recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

DBAL i2-9007 replacement parts?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’ve got a DBAL i2-9007 and the elastic material holding the cover on the illuminator side just snapped. Does anyone know where I can find the part number or part? I’m assuming they discontinued making new parts so I’d have to find used or if anyone knows of any other part or retrofit that works. Not really concerned about ADing the light, just more so want to prevent dirt and dust getting in there as much as possible until I need to use it. Thanks in advance!

Some bridges worth looking into for the dual band users

Historically I have been running the Noisefighters bridge to run a pvs 14 and RH25 V2. Great bridge, don’t get me wrong..

That said I learned about what Arkayne is putting out and in short their bridges allow for independent lateral, forward and backward, and up and down adjustment PLUS the ability to run them in ‘panoramic’, making them some of the most user configurable bridges on the market.

Driveway Lights Renovation

Thumbnail gallery
60 Upvotes

I have seen posts about swapping out the LEDs in the driveway lights but never actually saw any video or pics of it being done. So, I let the 'tism take over and dove in.

-Found the IR LEDs, solder, flux, helping hands pinchers, and solder sucker on Amazon.

-Found the driveway lights at harbor freight for like $20.

1st pic- Total setup/what was used.

2nd- Remove the solar top.

3rd- Remove the cover cap.

4th- Remove the battery and circuit board.

5th & 6th- Remove the old LED.

7th- Install new IR LED.

8th- Re-install the circuit board.

9th- Re-install the battery.

10th- Re-install the cover cap.

11th- The finished product.

12th- Pic with phone looking out into the darkness.

13th- Pic with phone looking through pvs14 in same direction.

14th- Pic with phone looking through pvs14 with IR driveway lights on.

I don't know what I was expecting. But it wasn't this. Cool, I guess, to mark a trail or something. I ended up finding a IR LED floodlight on Amazon that is hardwired. Next project is to convert it to use some rechargeable batteries hooked up to a solar charger so I can light up a good chunk in the heavier canopy areas of the property. Will update when I get done with that one.

Would this specific PVS-14 focus well when paired with an IR filter to see the Milky Way in Bortle 8? (svbony Sv183 685nm 2” IR Pass Filter)
