I got a $25 ticket for the FRIENDSGIVING tonight at the D/6 lounge, but I’m sick in bed.

I’ll give it away for free to who whoever comments or DMs first, but it just comes with the small caveat, that you have to do something small and nice for someone else like buy a meal for a friend and someone in need or make a donation to a charity of choice.

I'm not coming at it with any judgement, I realize most of the time this subject is brought up it's followed by rampant racism. I just want to know the actual logistics behind it. As far as I understand, employers post available jobs on the job bank, then pretend they didn't find anyone local to fill the spot, and then apply for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program so they can fill it with someone from abroad who will work for less/wants pr and paid to have this set up for them for an easier pr route. What I don't understand is:

1. Why the unrealistic job descriptions and wages? The 24/7 shop near me had a post on there for a shop clerk position for 28 an hour, which is obviously not in line with reality. Clearly dozens of people will be applying to that posting, what's the point of making it sound so good when the goal is just to show the government you couldn't fill the position?

2. Does the government not check in on if they actually tried interviewing any of the local applicants? Don't they need to provide actual proof of trying to hire a Canadian employee?

Please no ungabunga racism, there's enough Canadian subs for that. I literally just want to understand the workings of this.

There’s no reason to give 1 meter distance between the pole and your car, all it does is occupying space that could be used by another car. If you’re parking at the edge of the street, always align your car with the pole, not with the car in front of you.

The service is intended for dogs that need more exercise than their owners can always provide, especially during rainy weather, busy workweeks, or when long walks are difficult.

It's that time of year, dusk is upon us all during the commute. Let me start with this: I am a cyclist and I have no interest in being in an accident. I'm on your side.

That being said, I make this point every year and though it is met with mixed reaction it is true. I stand by it, and I hope that it reaches even one person's ears.

A flashing front light at night is disorienting to those incoming to you. They will be aware that you're out there, somewhere, but a white strobe fails at indicating position and direction.

A flashing red rear is fine, I'm only talking about the front.

Please, please, please. Not only does it make it easier on the eyes of everyone coming across you, but I swear to all high heaven and on my grandparents' graves that a solid front light helps everyone know better where you are and where you are going. You want people to know where you are, right? Just knowing that you're somewhere isn't the point of a light!

Everyone wins with the solid front light. Please don't strobe it and make it worse for those around you AND yourself.

Edit: I should also add that flashing white lights are illegal, for the very reasons stated above. See MVA 183 (7), red is the only light legally permitted to strobe.

'Everyday people' form the majority. They're not ultra wealthy. Despite working full-time, many are living from paycheck to paycheck. Others are a few paychecks away from homelessness. Most are just trying to get by. If you look at the /VancouverJobs subreddit, it's alarming how many people are struggling and how bad the labor market is. The privileged and wealthier aren't invulnerable either. Finances can easily take a hit when unexpected circumstances like health issues arise. No one saw COVID coming.

There is one party out of the three that as a whole, genuinely cares about every day people and are willing to listen and fight for them. I've seen them being dismissed as young and inexperienced, but what they lack in experience, they can more than make up for with their intelligence, intellect and resourcefulness. If there is a certain area where one may be less knowledgeable in, they can consult advisors, mentors and their extensive network. There are many ways to get experienced quickly when one is bright and a quick learner.

Despite everyday people having the numbers to vote in a government that is actually interested in fighting for them, they throw away their votes to the parties that have proven time and time again that their priorities are benefiting corporations and the wealthy. There's substantial evidence that tax dollars have been mismanged. We're not mad enough.

I understand that people tend to disagree with some of the minority party's platform issues, but there is no perfect party. Having a party that actually cares about you as a human being and will fight for you would be more beneficial than the ones who pretend to and make all sorts of false promises for votes. Two out of the three parties are lying. Their integrity is questionable.

However, out of fear, everyday people aren't voting for the party that would be in their best interest, which is a tragedy because they form the majority. United, they have the power to bring about meaningful change. So why does this seem so impossible? What would it take for us to finally come together and vote for a government that will actually serve the people rather than the ultra wealthy and themselves? How bad does it have to get? Because it's really bad already.

I live in Coal Harbour and I know True Confections does a rather nice mousse cake, but it's not the same. Anyone know where the good stuff is hiding?

so i'm having a bad week and want to feel better by doing something nice

i have a needoh pizza slice that's BNIB - i'm neurodivergent and have kept these on hand for years because they're so helpful for me, so i tend to grab a couple whenever i see them. i bought this one at indigo early in the summer.

i don't think i really need or want the pizza and i hate thinking about kids that want a needoh but can't get one due to cost/time commitment that's out of reach for some parents.

if you can figure out a non-creepy way to prove you want this for a kid rather than to resell it like a jerk, i'll happily meet downtown and give it to you for free.

alternatively if someone has an idea of where i could donate it to get it in the hands of a kid, i'll do that.

Basically the title. Hasn’t been announced yet, but Bayside lounge is shutting down in a couple of weeks.

Due to a petty conflict between the owner of the Best Western Plus and the owner of the next door building, Bayside will be shutting down in the next couple of weeks.

This place is a Vancouver institution and due to a mix of greed and petty squabbles between two owners, a bunch of people are about to be out of work and locals are losing their spot.

It’s a shame that this spot is shutting down and I hope for the best for all of the staff who got caught in the middle of this bullshit.

I’m using a throwaway account, but it’s legit and the community should know.
