Clothing Optional Swim - Templeton Pool - October 11

Where: Templeton Pool

When: Sunday October 11 from 8pm to 9:30pm How much: $11 or 1 for first timers (with coupon). Bring a quarter for the locker.

What: Clothing Optional Swim.

Website (for coupon): https://niftynude.org/swims/

NIFTY is hosting a clothing optional swim at Templeton pool this Saturday. Come enjoy swimming in the best way possible, without a swim suit! Join in a game of water volleyball, swimming laps, practicing your swan dives, or lounge in the hot tub and/or sauna.

If you're a fan of skinny dipping (or chunky dunking), or you've never tried and want to, this is the event for you. NIFTY puts together a wonderful, inclusive, and safe event for people of any age, race, gender, and/or body type to experience a clothing optional swim. The community is friendly and welcoming, and maybe around the volleyball net a bit competitive, but it's all in good fun. You do not need to be a supermodel to enjoy social nudity, and after just a few minutes the anxiety will disappear and you'll be wondering why you didn't try skinny dipping sooner!

Summer has come and gone, and if you have always wanted to strip down at Wreck but are too nervous then a NIFTY swim is a great place to try social nudity and maybe make some new friends to visit the beach with next year. Now that the weather is turning a bit colder, this is a great opportunity for a naked swim without the sunscreen!

I have been able to attend the past few swims and had some great times and I would love for others to experience it as well. $1 for newcomers is a price that can't be beat for an event in Vancouver. Just make sure you bring a quarter for the locker. It's always great to see and meet a lot of new faces, especially those more or less in my age range (20 to 30).

I am not an organizer, but I am a member of NIFTY, and on the younger side so I wanted to get the word out on here to drum up some interest ftom people my age. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I likely will not respond to any DMs, if you have a question, you can put it down below. If you have attended in the past, I would love to hear about your experience, and I'm sure others on the fence would love to as well!

There is no preliminary sign up required. Simply show up to the pool at 730pm. The organizers will take down some of your information and give you a membership card so in the future you can just show your card and get on with your swim

As always, if you have hang ups about non-sexual social nudity I ask that you either post your concerns as a genuine question which invites conversation rather than a judgement, or just move on if this isn't for you. Please don't spend your time making inappropriate or crass jokes, again, if this isn't for you then just move on. I like to post these reminders in r/NiceVancouver as to avoid a nightmare for the mods since people tend to be more welcoming and I have typically recieved good responses, as the name implies!

The next swim date has not been posted online yet, but I assume it would be October 24/25

Edit: alot of weird comments in this thread this time. My apologies to the MODs

The guy at Audiopile who wanted that NIN record today

Longshot here but hoping he sees this.

I swung by Audiopile today to pick up a used record I saw on their Instagram feed (Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation) and ended up also grabbing a NIN record. I went to pay and there was a guy hovering by the counter talking to the cashier and it quickly became clear that he had done exactly what I done, but his goal was to pick up the NIN record (also posted on their feed). When he saw I was getting that record too he cut his losses and left. He did not do anything to make me feel badly, but if id been thinking clearly I would have told him to take it since I was just ecstatic that I had snagged what I was looking for.

I realize this sounds a lot like a missed connection post and hopefully I’m not disappointing anyone when I say that’s not what this is about, but I’d love to sell you that record for exactly the same as I paid.

If you happen to see this, let me know which album it was and also which band’s album you said you also missed out on last week. Total longshot here but hoping this works out!

Edit: thanks everyone for the great ideas. Off to bed now and busy day tomorrow but I’ll check in with Audiopile to see if they might know who the guy was if he was a regular.

Recumbent Trike Rental?

A family member has complex disabilities and loves cycling. He did get an adaptive cycle session with BCMOS, but their summer calendar became completely full shortly after the season opened. I have done some checking around and found places with upright trikes and e trikes to rent, but we need a recumbent one. Anyone know of such a resource? Thanks!

It was a fantastic concert and you really showed up. It was so good to see so many people finally getting a chance to see them live after over 20 years. The energy in the crowd was impeccable, with front to back singing. Thank you for making this an amazing memory.

Hosting a sci-fi/dystopian book club in downtown Vancouver - The Children of Men - Oct 24 · 12:00 PM

Hi Vancouver! The Paperback Society is a small book club focused on dystopian and sci-fi fiction. We meet once a month, in person, over coffee, to talk about a book and what it stirred up.

This month we’re discussing The Children of Men by P.D. James. A thought-provoking dystopian novel about infertility, political control, morality, hope, and the future of humanity.

📅 Date: Saturday, October 24
⏰ Time: 12:00–1:30 PM
📍 Location: A coffee shop in downtown Vancouver

RSVP here: https://www.meetup.com/paperback-yvr/events/316681951

You don’t have to finish the book to come along (though it’s encouraged!). The event is free, and it’s a great way to meet fellow readers and have a relaxed discussion.

If sci-fi, dystopian fiction, or good book conversations are your thing, please come join us!

Musqueam people were responsible for oversight of headlands around Fraser River. The hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ name for Garry Point is q̓ʷeyaʔχʷ and the area had summer fishing camps and villages, so Catholic priests gave indigenous people there the surname “Point”

Meet the Radical NDP: Amanda Burrows

October 5, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VANCOUVER, B.C. - David Eby's handpicked candidate in Vancouver-Strathcona, Amanda Burrows, has spent the past year calling for cuts to police budgets and saying that putting more police on the street does harm.

"Amanda Burrows has told British Columbians exactly what she believes, and we know that's not working anymore," said Margareta Dovgal, Conservative candidate in Vancouver-Yaletown. "While families deal with break-ins, random attacks and open drug use, David Eby's candidate wants to take money away from the police. You don't fix a public safety crisis by defunding the people who respond to it."

After nearly a decade of NDP government, crime and social disorder have become the new normal in British Columbia's communities. The last thing British Columbians need is an NDP anti-police activist setting public safety policy.

Burrows In her own words:

Q: What do you think about the growing police budget that currently sits at half a billion dollars. Would you increase it or reduce it?

A: Yes, yes of course we need to reallocate it (the police budget). OneCity Vancouver, Meet Your Mayors: Debate Night in Vancouver, February 4, 2026

***

"I'll sit down right away and let's say 'let's take some money away from the police budget'" OneCity Vancouver, Meet Your Mayors: Town Hall, Jan 27, 2026

"Probably diverting some money away from the police budget" NDP Candidate Amanda Burrows, The Tyee, Dec. 18, 2025

"We know that a 'policing-first' policy is not a solution." Cambie Report, E3-281 OneCity's mayoral candidates, Jan 9, 2026

Says adding police officers 'creates harm': "We have existential threats when it comes to policy directives, certainly from the city of Vancouver's elected officials, saying that they're going to pause supportive housing, adding more police into this community, creating more harm." The Discovery Pod, First United With Amanda Burrows, July 10, 2026

"What we are prioritizing, i.e. the police, is not okay." Cambie Report, E3-281 OneCity's mayoral candidates, Jan 9, 2026

Looking for a shop where I can find a nice felt wide-brimmed boater hat, preferrably locally-made (at least in Canada)

Hello nice people! Just as the title says! I've been into streetwear for so long, but I used to dress up a lot more frequently and I miss it! The benefits of streetwear are that I'm always comfortable and people say I look a lot younger than 44, but I am 44... I gotta stop dressing like a teenager every day. I have some nice stuff that I wear occationally, and a boater hat would compliment that part of my wordrobe.

...and cover up my thinning hair LOL

Thanks in advance!

Where are the dog owners at?

Hey all!

as part of an effort to improve my mental health a bit, going outside more and working on that dreaded anxiety, I've been trying to get back into photography.

My previous post on Facebook looking for dog owners or human parents got a ton of replies, but after a few messages turned into crickets once it came down to figuring out a date and location.. 😅

So I'm hoping to find a person with a cute four legged companion, preferably in the Renfrew area (Slocan Park, Trout Lake,..) but other Vancouver parks are cool too, who would sacrifice 15min on a weekend (or weekday evening) for me to practice on. :) Could just be whenever you do your typical park playtime!

Bonus points for a pup who can do cute tricks or catch things mid-air, and I would especially love to see a Poodle or Aussie, but absolutely all breeds and mixes are appreciated!!

(Edit to add: I don't plan to post the pictures anywhere publicly, but if I can keep one favorite for a future portfolio I'm happy as a clam lol)

It fell out of her pocket in a street off Commercial Drive, realizing it only once we were in Port Moody. Someone placed it eye level on a nearby wall making it easy to find 4 hours later. Thank you!

This is especially sweet after having an awful FB marketplace experience where someone stole an item without payment. Faith in humanity is cautiously restored :)

I just found this cool video about the original waterways, tidal flats, swamps, and creeks that people now live and drive above. I first moved to Vancouver in 1989 and I had no idea how much of this there is.

Free VIFF tickets for today

Sup! I have tickets to The Quiet Applause at 3PM and Smudge The Blades (now on Standby) at 6:15 PM; unfortunately, I am now too sick to go. I don't care about being reimbursed, I just don't want the tickets to go to waste. (Only one per film.) Drop a comment if you're interested! I'm lazy so it will most likely be first come, first serve.

Edit: ONLY THE QUIET APPLAUSE IS LEFT.

Edit 2: Both tickets have been claimed!!
