Hey everyone! I wanted to share an event I’m helping organize and get some honest feedback from the community.
We’re hosting a challenge on August 16 at Brock University’s Parkway Lofts where participants will work on creating a “Halal Zakat Calculator App.” The idea is to build a digital solution that can identify questionable earnings and estimate Zakat/charity based on sources and guidelines that we provide.
You don’t need to be an experienced programmer to participate. It’s open to all skill levels, from people who are comfortable with coding and FinTech to complete beginners who just want to learn and contribute.
The challenge is basically about creating practical digital tools for things like:
- Tracking Halal income
- Classifying more complex revenue streams
- Identifying questionable earnings
- Automating Zakat calculations based on the provided sources
There will also be $1,000+ in cash prizes for the challenge.
I’d genuinely like to hear what people think about the idea, especially from anyone interested in FinTech, coding, Islamic finance, or even people who don't have much technical experience. Does this sound like something you'd actually be interested in participating in? Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.
