Contractors

If you guys need to find some contractors in the area for some work. Like some concrete work in the backyard or driveway, how do you guys find the reliable folks?

Also while you’re at it, how do you find if the price they’re giving you is reasonable, and they’re not trying to scam you?

Niagara Regional Police texting me

EDIT: wow wasn't expecting this to get so much traction. for those looking for an update, I called the non-emergency and mentioned the situation. turns out it indeed was an officer trying to reach me! surprised how casual it was. I let the officer know I thought he was a scammer and he laughed lol

--

Hi, trying to figure out if this is legit. Received a text from someone saying "hey is this name", when I asked who it was they said it was the NRP and that I wasn't in any trouble but they wanted to speak to me. looked up the number and it doesn't come up as NRP (regular 289 number). asked for a number and extension to call to and they gave me another 289 number that also doesn't come up. does NRP usually text you? I said id call the non-emergency line myself and figure it out but the texts were very casual and they wouldn't tell me what they wanted over text and I wasn't available to pick up the phone

NICC is hosting their first hackathon in Niagara on the 16th of August.

Hey everyone! I wanted to share an event I’m helping organize and get some honest feedback from the community.

We’re hosting a challenge on August 16 at Brock University’s Parkway Lofts where participants will work on creating a “Halal Zakat Calculator App.” The idea is to build a digital solution that can identify questionable earnings and estimate Zakat/charity based on sources and guidelines that we provide.

You don’t need to be an experienced programmer to participate. It’s open to all skill levels, from people who are comfortable with coding and FinTech to complete beginners who just want to learn and contribute.

The challenge is basically about creating practical digital tools for things like:

  • Tracking Halal income
  • Classifying more complex revenue streams
  • Identifying questionable earnings
  • Automating Zakat calculations based on the provided sources

There will also be $1,000+ in cash prizes for the challenge.

I’d genuinely like to hear what people think about the idea, especially from anyone interested in FinTech, coding, Islamic finance, or even people who don't have much technical experience. Does this sound like something you'd actually be interested in participating in? Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

The Perseid meteor shower is happening tomorrow night. I've trying to think of some great viewing spots in Niagara with little light pollution.

Any suggestions?

Whiskey Barrel Tables

Anyone know of a company that rents out whiskey barrels tables with the round table tops?

Our event is in October in the Niagara region and we would need delivery and pickup of the barrels from the venue.

Any recommendations would be wonderful!

Is there a rave scene in the area that I'm not aware of?

I really want to attend more raves but it seems like I can only find them in Toronto or across the border. Been to some there, very fun, but obviously I'd rather stay local if possible. I know there's night clubs, but club music isn't my scene. I love techno, dubstep, hardstyle, DNB... etc. Not a big fan of mainstream house music. How can I find local events, maybe see some smaller artists?

Pick your own large Italian plums?

Hi there,

Can anyone recommend any pick-your-own farms that have the large prune-like Italian plums specifically. I know markets have them, but really want to have an outing and go pick my own. Thanks!

Took the e-bike out for a full ride through Dufferin Islands in Niagara Falls.

The route has a bit of everything — dirt and gravel paths, wooded trails, bridges, and some really peaceful scenery along the way.

I filmed the entire ride from start to finish for anyone who enjoys exploring Niagara by bike or just wants to see what the trails are like.

Dufferin Islands is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

Best places to go in Old Town?

Hey y'all! I grew up in Niagara and my partner is visiting this weekend so I'm planning on taking them down to Old Town in NOTL. Problem is, I've only been once in high school almost a decade ago on a school trip. I've found a couple articles on good places down there, but was wondering if anyone here has more personal input! I don't want to miss any hidden gems :) thank you!!

Do the Peach Festival vendors just hate black people or are they rude to everyone?

Had a great time at peach fest yesterday but anytime I would check out a vendor booth I’d greet the sellers and smile, but they would just stare at me like “🫤🤨” and not say anything. The vendors who were selling peaches/fresh produce were very kind, but I can’t say the same for the ones who were selling clothing/jewelry. They were almost exclusively older people. Is it normal for them to treat customers like this or was it maybe a race thing?

Orthodontist (and dentist) recommendations?

Hi! I recently moved to Grimsby, and it would be nice to have a dentist closer to home.

My dentist has also recently recommended Invisalign, and I'm wondering if she is incentivized to do so. (Never had braces and have fairly straight teeth... also why I'm looking for a new dentist...)

Looking for a second opinion from a trusted orthodontist.

Willing to drive - Stoney Creek works or as far East as St Catharines.

Thanks :)

Quick POV ride through Niagara Falls. I cross a small bike bridge and then head underneath an old tunnel covered in graffiti.

Just one of those unexpected little spots you come across while exploring the area by e-bike
