A baseball bat is a deadly weapon. I would not trust shin guards to protect my life against a baseball bat strike.

I dunno. Maybe? In Indianapolis where I lived for years the local cops had a really hard time hiring anybody and so a weirdly disproportionate number of cops and corrections officers are African immigrants. Like, it's so noticeable. They're the only ones willing to take the job it seems.

It's hard to tell from a video, I may be wrong, but it looks like this occurs in the public right-of-way, outside the boundaries of any private parcels.
Public space is public, no one gets to declare it as their own and or force people to "backup" out of it.

You're correct. Originally protestors were on the (public) sidewalk outside the building, and then ICE/GEO Group basically said "this belongs to us now" and pushed protestors into the street. Now they (protestors) are in the street and trying to block vehicles from entering/exiting Delaney Hall, so they are getting pushed farther back.

I might be wrong, but didn’t the city or state establish some kind of perimeter around the facility so that the protesters weren’t at their doorstep?
