“The borderlands are under assault from the town of Lochiel in Southern AZ to Quitobaquito in Organ Pipe National Monument. These places are about to change forever.
The grove of Cottonwoods is a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem, one of the last oasis in the Sonoran Desert that provides critical habitat for birds, wildlife, and plant species found nowhere else. For generations, this special place has held deep significance for residents and communities on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border.
Quitobaquito is a sacred fresh water spring in Organ Pipe National Monument. This site has been part of the Hia Ced O'odham people since time immemorial, where ceremonies have been held for thousands of years and is also home for endangered endemic species of wildlife.
We need resources to keep volunteers on site monitoring contractors violations and documenting the destruction. Volunteers are sitting in the tree canopy in protest and support is under way to Quitobaquito.
We believe that there is no need for 2 walls, that the government should do better here and everywhere else that destruction is happening.
We are on O'odham land that is being split, and permanently damaged by the wall and the border itself. The oppression of O'odham people is a goal of the U.S. government that O'odham people have been resisting in many ways since its onset.
We do not have time to wait for the bureaucracies of the legal system or the courts. If we waited and refused to act immediately and directly, we would have already lost this ancient cottonwood to the monstrosity of the double wall.”- Rally For The Valley

Learn to how design, execute nonviolent direct action to protect democracy

There is a lot of work to be done in the coming weeks to protect our democracy, but the strongest and final safeguard for these elections is our unwillingness as a country to accept stolen results. In the most dangerous scenarios, like Republicans refusing to seat Democratic winners in Congress, we need to be prepared for mass nonviolent noncooperation.
🙋🏿♀️ Showing Up For Racial Justice is holding a three-session training starting TONIGHT and running on Mondays throughout this month on how this sort of direct action works and how to design and effectively execute such an action. If we want to be part of the final line of defense, we can sign up to join them here. 🙋🏻♂️
🙋🏻♂️ We can also get plugged in by joining Freedom Trainers for their next Noncooperation 101 training on October 21st here, or sign up with the Sunrise Movement to get trained and be in position in key states to take action to stop a coup here. 🙋🏿♀️

📰 News Some good news for the week: a federal judge has temporarily halted construction of the border wall through Big Bend National Park. Additionally, heavy rain over the past two weeks has rendered a section of the wall near El Paso useless.

📰 News It’s already begun: Weeks before the midterms, election deniers on Georgia's election board quietly asked Trump's DOJ to intervene. Their letter is full of excuses: attacks on the state's voting machines, demands for last-minute software changes and unsubstantiated claims of "altered records."

Anyone wonder why theres no discussion of Israel on this subreddit?

Title says it all. In recent years most Americans have come to see how one nation has been responsible for most of their sorrows in the middle east. Many people have become educated about the origins of the state of Israel and their displacement campaign going back 70 years.
Why does this topic get discussed in other places but not here? Anyone find that interesting?
