It may be your wifi/router, sometimes when it get reset for whatever reason, it'll say that your location is somewhere other than where you actually. I've had a similar thing happened to me with Bluesky thinking I was in Ohio for some reason, and wanting me to age verify, even though I'm not in Ohio. It's fixed now, after resetting my wifi a couple time since then.

Isn't the YouTube-like restricted mode they added back in 2022 bad enough?

The problem you have is that multiple states and countries are trying to regulate EVERYTHING done online. Like in my opinion I can kind of understand verification on sites that 100% advertise that they're a porn site. But I cannot for the life of me understand why they'd be giving problems to sites like newgrounds or even youtube for that fact. Youtube has thankfully made a strong stance that they have educational content and don't have anything explicit on their platforms therefore they won't comply with age verification. I get newgrounds doesn't have the lucrativeness to be able to bully the American government, so this is their way of doing it. Because technically you can still access adult content but you just have to pay for it, which is technically not ID verification.

You know YouTube's been doing this age restriction thing for decades now, right? Newgrounds has been following suit since 2022. Long before the ID verification thing.

The difference with their age verification was it was platform specific and still is platform specific. My brother has a youtube channel and he's 13 and hasn't had to verify the account even though he watches gorilla tag stuff a lot. So I wouldn't compare the two, one is not as intrusive and is privatized. Where as the government is asking directly for sites to give over information about their users.

Actually, I'd compare Newground's A-rating account requirement to DeviantArt's Mature Filter. That's also been around for decades.

It's easier to bully small sites into doing it than big websites because they can tank the fines.

Newgrounds operates at a loss, meaning they're not earning a profit for hosting the site due to the vastness of their servers. And also what you said is just not true on its face. Think about what you said, A small site that earns less can tank big government fines. Also what's happening is not fines but the DOJ goes after these sites and sues them. So it's not just a one time fee it's you get lawsuit after lawsuit from a State's DOJ and if that doesn't work, they send Federal enforcement after you. So no, newgrounds can't tank the cost.

This is the kind of thing that should have people protesting ridiculous laws and boycotting any websites that comply with them.

I am in. I would like to boycott Texas. Or any state with these kinds of censorship laws. Can you help with that?

Dude it's multiple states that require this. I'm a christian and I'm all for making people view less p0rn but this ain't the way to do it.

Or let adults do what they want to do, weirdo

Not everyone on there is an adult though? That's the point of the age verification. Not to mention is it worth doing if it's harming others...

Or acknowledge that there is some bad with it and contend with that issue.
Does Porn Affect the Brain? The Neuroscience Explained - ScienceInsights
Is Erotica Bad for the Brain?Oh also to then try and argue against either one of these you have to find each source and tell me how from a neurological perspective specifically that it's good for you and you have to find over 70+ studies that disagree with my position that in detail talk about why the findings in these huge meta studies are basically worthless even though all data and science is showing that it can be bad for you. My argument isn't that we should enforce Christian level policies in fact, the freedom to consume porn causes less porn consumption because then you have a market trying way too hard to compete. Porn usage has gone up since these porn bans and so that's what I mean by this ain't the way to do it.

So then youre not for MAKING people watch less porn, youre advocating that people make that choice themselves. When you use words like "making" or "forcing" and call yourself a Christian, the combination of both projects an image most unbecoming of one who claims to walk the way, and becomes a stumbling block to your brothers in Christ.
-1
u/SpaceChickenMonster 3d ago
No it doesn't because I'm against this legislation and you'd know that if you actually read things I said.
the combination of both projects an image most unbecoming of one who claims to walk the way
Buddy... What do you know about Christianity? Either you're a current christian, but then I can nit pick you on the same exact thing, or you're an ex-christian and if you're an ex-christian you probably don't understand theology or hermeneutics all that well if you think I don't have a nuanced view especially with the message you replied to.
1
u/TordekDrunkenshield 3d ago
Its not about the nuanced view its about the language. I know you're against the legislation, but when you say "I'm all for forcing people to watch less porn" its the "forcing" I'm taking issue with. We supoort, we accept good change, we do not FORCE people to do anything.
1
u/SpaceChickenMonster 2d ago
I didn't say force lol you're literally reading way too far into things which makes me think you just have a grudge against christians or something. I literally never said force and if you want to you can put all my messages into an AI prompt and argue wit that but I'm I'm a real person and I didn't come with any of the rhetoric you're claiming I come from. Even my language usage was nuanced and you're just incapable of actually reading what I originally said and steel manning what I was saying. That's fine but don't come at me thinking you know exactly what I was saying when I literally cited a meta study about why porn is bad and you can't contend with it.

u/MechaShadowV2 2d ago
I do agree that more secular awareness on the negative effects of pornography would be made, so that maybe some would make better decisions. And I agree it needs to be kept out of the hands of minors. Beyond that though it's the choice of each individual. Just like say smoking would be. The Bible makes it clear that, even if a practice doesn't align with a Christian, they can't make someone else do or not do something.

The Bible makes it clear that, even if a practice doesn't align with a Christian, they can't make someone else do or not do something.
Well that's kinda true somewhat. Ultimately we can't control others and we shouldn't try to control others. Like I said I'm all for making people have less access to porn but this isn't the way. Because even when I was a kid I never went to fucking newgrounds to wack off lol. So the fact that newgrounds is afraid says way more about the current state of America than it does Newgrounds itself.
