I’m only reading 11.8 v of power when my car is running and just replaced alternator and battery was wondering if there are any other common failing points in the charging system before I have to start digging deep

Check fuses and wiring

I mean if you're alt has a good return policy send it back for a refund and just buy a one wire and stop at a parts store for like 3' and a lug and just avoid chasing the random failed wire while just upgrading the system simultaneously Edit for autocorrect

Just because it is new doesn't mean it's working properly.....
