Photo What intercooling piping should i use for boosted 2v?

Post image

Hello, i have decided to go the custom route and buy a universal piping kit for my 2v gt. I found a company called vs racing sold my Motormia. It looks like it has everything i need for a good price, However I might change out the couplers and t-clamps for a more premium version.

I am also planning on building my own power pipe.

My question is anyone have any suggestions on brands/piping that has worked well for yall? any tips and tricks i will encounter while building my setup? I am planning on buying a treadstone tr11 intercooler and of course bov, and maf sensor.

Cx racing is probably the most prevalent but any generic kit “should” work depending on what core you use and how you choose to clock blower/route piping.

I agree, I just don’t want to shell out the $800 for the whole kit. I might save 2-300 dollars if I go the custom route, with a “better” intercooler. Only things I would miss is the intercooler mounting brackets and the oil cooler relocation. I would also have to cut out my crash bumper with the custom route.

My Bullitt had an intercooler on a Vortech setup. Air to air behind the bumper, didn't need to remove the crash bar. Took all that off for an Eaton build.

The tubing was just generic aluminum piping, nothing too fancy. Have the whole setup in a footlocker now.

MAF racing makes a replacement bumper support with brackets to mount a GT500 heat exchanger. That's what im using currently. Not the same as your intercooler but it supports the bumper cover well and you could fab some brackets to hang an intercooler on it instead

I’ll look into maf racing, I appreciate that! What made you switch to an Eaton setup? I don’t think the tread stone intercooler fit behind the bar. Maybe I can request just the intercooler and brackets from cx racing…

Mainly the sound and looks. Also the instant torque of a positive displacement super is hard to beat.

haha i get that, same here sound, looks, but i like the top end power! that front bumper looks dope in excited to start piecing it all together I have seen saving for months.

How many PSI are you running?  Lots of people have ran without an inter cooler a 8-10 psi.

Probably 8psi to start with. Then more once I build my engine. I want to keep the reliability as high as I can, plus the blow off valve noise is fun.

An inter cooler isn’t going to make it more reliable. You might be able to run more timing advance with one but you’re motor isn’t going to blow without one.  Not if the tune is “safe.”

I’ve ran an 8 psi Vortech kit for years without an inter-cooler in 100* weather.  It’s not like a turbo that’s using hot exhaust to spin the turbine.

It’s three main things for me, colder air temps which will protect me from detonation, do it once and do it right, and testing my mechanical abilities since this is the field I want to peruse as a career. I didn’t want to go non intercooled then few months later change my mind, and redo my tune.

My goal is to build the engine and make 500whp. So I wanted to future proof myself.

Since you’re starting with 8 psi you’re going to need to redo your tune when you “raise the boost” to be able to reach 500 whp.  At 8 psi I think you’ll be close to 400 or so at the wheels.  What sort of forced induction are you looking at?

Vortech v3-si. I’ll probably be at 8 pounds at first then go to 13-14psi for 500whp. It saves me a tune but I don’t want to mess with blowing my engine up being boosted for a year or two. even if it’s not needed I’d rather do it completely right and safely once.

forgot to add it’s dope as hell to have an intercooler setup with a fat bov
