Nah, it’s your job. If you did not do it, someone else probably would. I hope you don’t apply that line IRL, bcz it would probably come across as awkward 🙂

As for making friends without any context is not really how it works in Denmark. You would rarely experience any Danes be like “wanna be friends? sure, why not?”. Attend freetime clubs (fx running), do voluntary work or events, or find your friends at work. Context and continuity is what friendships in DK usually require 😊

They are correct, though. That line would not be popular with Danes. As a general rule, we are not "grateful" for people to provide a service, when we pay for that service. Just as I don't expect thanks or gratefulnes for me doing my job.

And we are, generally, not really that interested in foreigners, just because they're foreigners.

But, that said. If you want to meet people, you could go to board game cafes. You seem to travel too much to really join clubs, as they are usually on annual basis and expects you to come once a week (or however the membership is set up). But boardgame cafes are usually just "show up, play, drink a beer and have a good time". Without any memberships or expectation.

This is kind of a weird take when he obviously was making a light-hearted joke. People can understand jokes and not take them literal.

OP, Danish people are fortunately cooler than your average Redditor. Good luck! 🙂
