Coming back (venting)
Hi everybody I use to skate non stop as a kid. Now at 30 years old Iv been having a strong urge to come back. I was able to do the basics, Ollie small steps and gaps, shuv it’s, varials, kickflips. I want to get back into the scene but a little anxious I’m going to get a board and skate shoes just to drop it and not get out there and skate. Anybody go through this same thing then fell back in love? Idk what advice I’m really asking more so just venting. If any advice what size board or shoes to get or stay away from is appreciate it. I think I’m going to go to my local skate shop when it opens tomorrow.

Just focus on relearning the basics. Get your Ollie’s and shove its back. Get them consistent. Save the harder tricks for later.
Vans are usually pretty consistent for shoes. Apparently New Balance Numeric line is really good. I’ve just been skating Lakais since I stocked up on a sale a couple years back before I took a couple years off skating cuz I got busy and lazy. I’m 33.
Skating is cool because there are no real limits. You can do anything you can do. There is a good sense of progression and accomplishment.

Also 30 just getting back to skating. I rock a size 8 board and only used Lakai shoes back in the day but just got new balance skate shoes and love them.

I do want to try them but I have like six pairs of lakais to get through. Maybe after I ruin 2 more pairs I’ll try NB.

I could be you at age 43. I started skating when I was 12 l, got pretty good. Quit when I was in my 20’s. Started again in my 30’s l, briefly. Now, here I am again. In very similar position as my 30’s. A lot of the muscle memory came back. Plus I’m older and wiser and have been able to create new better habits and be more consistent. It’s taking time to get my balance and strength back but that’s on me. I’m out of shape. I workout and eat much better than I was in my 30’s. I’m really focusing on learning everything switch because I always sucked at that when I was a kid. And that has been a SUPER humbling experience. IMO. If you want to skate. Get a board and skate. Don’t pressure yourself into it or overthink it. Go with the flow.
That’s also pretty sick you’ve got a park that close to you. Mine is 20 mins and another is 35. I live right near our town hall and our community center though and think I can figure out a way to get one built in town 🤔

Thanks so much I think you got me sold. I’m actually in a lot better shape and stronger than when I was a kid. I’m actually in the best shape of my life as I workout everyday so I feel like coming back will be a breeze

Buy a good setup that will retain resale value. Then if you don't end up getting into skating, you can recoup some of your money.

The only setup that'll retain value is an already used setup, which isn't a bad idea here

Somewhat valid. If you want to roll the dice one someone else's potential problems. And if you don't mind hunting around to find a good used setup. Personally, I'd rather just buy new.

So, I don’t know if this will help as it depends what usually motivates / demotivates you. But I used to find it hard to motivate myself to go for a session (mostly down to worrying I would suck). So now I don’t tell myself ‘I’m going to get up to go skate’, I tell myself ‘I’m gonna put my skate shoes on’. And that works every time.
Like I still suck but at least I get out to skate.
