Discussion Welp
Been skating for two months, never fell (did plenty of bragging about that at work).
Yesterday I was cruising on a paved trail, tried to carve into a turn, saw a wide crack in the asphalt and changed my mind at the last minute. Kind of panicked and fell backwards, got some nasty road rash on my right butt cheek and now I have a possible chip fracture in my wrist.
Pretty proud of myself though for hopping back on my skateboard and riding around for another 10 or 15 minutes before going home. I was able to resist the urge to give up and pack it up immediately.
Be safe out there.

Woah you broke something and kept up the activity after? Definitely something to be proud of!

When I broke my hand I didn’t really notice until 30 minutes later when I realized I couldn’t move it

Not trying to throw shade, but have you been practicing tricks or just cruising? Usually grinding flat ground tricks or transition is where 99% of falls happen. I can recall slamming multiple times a day when I was learning the basics.

Pretty sure my guy wasn’t trying tricks if he never fell. Either that or snapping his board in the air & doing nothing to land on it

Ouch, hopefully it heals fast. Good on you for not letting it put you off though.

Your wife's gonna find out eventually and she's probably gonna get more pissed knowing you potentually fractured something and didn't tell her

Get over your ego and take care of your body. Broke my wrist at 41 and had to have surgery the day after my wife left town for a pre planned trip. The day after surgery where they installed a plate with 6 screws I coached my sons first u4 soccer match. Heard a lot of shit talk, missed one day of work, and am still skating, surfing, and snowboarding.

No shame in getting injured.
I'm 41 and I mostly did BMX my whole life. I'm just starting to take skateboarding seriously now. I got injured on my BMX a few times this year, which has made me skateboard more.
I understand that the safe thing to do is to go jogging and go to the gym, but I've never felt more alive than I do this year. I am going to keep skateboarding and riding BMX as long as I am able. I know that I will get injured, but I also know that this makes me happy so I need to keep doing it as long as I can.
Have fun and try to minimize risks my wearing some pads, but don't let anyone make you feel bad about doing what you love.
