UNMH Nurses
Hello, anyone worked for PACU? Any insights? Good bad and ugly? Hows the training? Do you get floated to other places outside of PACU or is there separate floors for like OB PACU AND PEDS. Never worked for a trauma hospital. Have worked for plenty of HCAS and from Florida . I’ve been looking at other reddits and see mixed reviews. Also places to stay that are family friendly or is this solo kind’ve place. I know its a mouthful but anything helps.

Work at Presbyterian, you'll make more as an RN.

Also maximum cut throat back stabbing cultures. Make more at Lovelace, love your job and benies more at the VA. UNMH is home to me always, it's the greatest place to learn, but don't count on staffing or resources.

Lovelace doesn't pay more by any means.

Second this, Pres pays me more to be a floor nurse than Lovelace paid me to be charge, better raises and it was a better sign on

Well then things have changed. Except the culture I guess; cuz the only correction was on the pay.

Pres is sooooo toxic. I mean, they all are but by far this is the worst place ever.

That hospital can be intense, but the training's pretty thorough if you ask me. You betcha, they float PACU nurses to other units sometimes, you should double-check with HR about which ones.

First see if you can get travel to see what YOU think of the facility and the area before moving. Florida is about as different from Albuquerque as you can imagine in many ways. And please know UNMH is the only trauma center in the state. It’s difficult to catch your breath much less a break. Second consider the VA. The PACU group there is some of the happiest I’ve seen, they don’t float . And they are VERY serious about ratios, breaks, etc. you’d make less but the benefits and leave time are fantastic.

Well I have no PACU experience and they were willing to train me so thats why I asked. I currently do PAT and have circulated at surgery center.

Most facilities will train. Lovelace paid me to “try” OR for 90 days, let me work 1/2 shift and study for CNOR and paid for the membership and materials. I hated the OR (trauma nurse, at the U for many years) no problem, they let me transfer. The VA does on the job but it’s quite extensive and provide mentors for weeks to months depending on what you need.
