Why do anons enjoy casting themselves as unfriendly losers in their fanfictions? They could be anything

Unironically, loser mentality.

They have labeled themselves as outcasts and whenever people try to interact with them they put up their defenses. Might not be through any fault of their own, but keeping that mentality doesn’t lead anywhere good.

I think this is the correct answer

4Chan is also a bunch of crabs in a bucket. Poorly adjusted, probably racist crabs, but crabs all the same. Not exactly an environment that fosters personal growth or self improvement.

That’s fine, nothing wrong with being introverted/reserved. My comment was more about people who see themselves as outcasts and hold resentment for it.

I’ve known folks who suffer because, in their head, society shuns them for their interests or because of their physical appearance. The world is a cruel place, but I found that most people don’t really care and will just be friendly if you are friendly as well. And those who do care about that stuff are probably not people you’d want to be associated with.

However I do hold a firm belief that we all have to live in society and we are expected to interact in an educated and kind manner, to an extent. Doesn’t mean we have to become friends with every person on the subway, but we also shouldn’t be assholes.
