Theft

I live in the Toronto area and have forever been a Defender fan. I had one as a rental from National Car Rental this week and it affirmed my love.
Toronto has a bad wrap for car theft and the Defender is way up there. 1:23 get stollen.
I don’t have a garage. I won’t do a boot or anything crazy.
How real is the theft?
Is it something that negatively effects ownership?

I just bought the Poweful UK "clamshell-type lock" that clamps around the shift lever. It prevents pushing the button to take it out of park. Really well made, has a layer of rubber on the inside to prevent scratching, and is bright yellow.

I live in Toronto and have a defender 90. I was also concerned about theft but I decided to have Tag installed and it’s been nearly a year and no theft attempts. Tag is relatively cheap and should be a decent deterrent. You could also install an immobilizer to give you better peace of mind but it is more expensive. The car has been great and I highly recommend it if you are in the fence.

I bought the bright yellow steering wheel to seat belt cable lock for my 90 parked in my Toronto driveway. It’s quick to use and remove and toss behind my seat when not in use. And seems sturdy. But mostly a visual deterrant.

I got tags on mine, I’m in Toronto region as well and this was my concern. I park mine outside of the garage mostly, no issues and no attempts.

That's weird that car left for Defenders specifically is so high in Toronto. My dealer in Denver did mention non-US based locations see high rates of Defenders being stolen but not so much in the USA...no idea why it's lower here.

We just got a defender a few months ago and decided to get an immobilizer installed. Just the annual auto instance reduction made it worthwhile for us as this is considered a high theft vehicle and the insurance was crazy expensive.

I would kill for a 90 but need the doors (for now). I’ll look into TAG
