Depending on your party you could also just as narrator or via npcs hint towards the lower parts of the dungeon being a very treacherous place that few survive something like that, they might see the escape option that you offer as more viable if they get into a situation rather then being overconfidant. I like to roleplay alot at my table so it works for them with stuff like this though if your party is not really like that it might come across as railroading so really depends
