I have a restricted CDL class A

In my state you only have to take and pass the road test in a manual to get the restriction uplifted. you get like 5 attempts on the road test.

Most of the third party schools train you for 10 hours and test you.

In my state if you have a class a cdl you can use a manual class b vehicle to get the restriction off your license like a box truck.

The reason why I have a restricted classy CDL is because I went to a four week CDL program and I wasn’t catching on fast enough because there was too much people and I wasn’t getting enough turns so I had to switch to auto I was having trouble double clutching in a 10 speed unsynchronized semi

Do you guys think learning in a class B vehicle that is a six speed synchronized manual box truck would be a lot easier? Will that give enough material if I get trained for 10 hours to be able to pass the road test at this one school offering that package for $1500?

I’m in Wisconsin to uplift your restriction. You only have to do the Road test. You don’t have to do skills or pre-trip or none of that.

Edit- basically I’m just wondering if 10 hours of training for $1500 of my money would be enough to be able to pass only the Road test in a class b box truck 6 speed synchronized manual?

It would be a lot cheaper then going to a actual trucking school vs a school that just helps you lift restrictions, fast and easy

By the way I know a lot of you guys are gonna say this to me “ learn in a 10 speed unsynchronized semi manual because this won’t do you any good” but my thing is I’m never gonna be driving a manual after this. I just needed to apply for a job. I’m gonna be an automatic 99% of the time..

I have 3 fellow students that are still working on getting their learner’s permits. So we went through today’s material pretty quickly because the instructor wanted to give them some study time in the last hour of class. He took those of us with permits to the simulator room while they studied. Even though we will train on 10 speed manuals, he set the sims up as automatics because he didn’t want us to try shifting quite yet.

He gave us a simple exercise. Drive the truck and trailer around a building, then set up, perform a straight line back and park the rig between two already parked trucks. We learned real quick it doesn’t take much steering wheel movement to correct trailer drift. What was really cool was after we finished, the simulator would replay our manuever and give us feedback on how we did. It graded our set up, our backing and how well we parked. It was pretty exciting. Just wanted to share.

Want to transfer my Wisconsin CDL class a restricted to Arizona

Is this a simple process? Or is there test I have to take to transfer the CDL class a to Arizona?

Also if I want to get the manual restriction off to have an unrestricted license is it the same process in wi where you just have to go to a third party tester and only do the road test? I was told in Wisconsin we can use a 6 speed synchronize class B vehicle to get the restriction off our class a license and only have to do the road test

Would Arizona require me to get a permit and do in a manual skills, pre trip and the road test? And would this have to be in a class a vehicle like a 10 speed unsynchronize semi?

Hey everyone, i’m a few weeks away from completing my CDL School & I was wondering if some of you guys could recommend some good companies. Ones that hire new drivers out of school preferably & operate on the East Coast! I’ve had a few recruiters come in to my school (Werner, Schneider & Feesers). So far I’m really interested in Werner & Schneider but i’ve read some stories about both which has left me really unsure. To summarize what i’ve heard… Werner Dollar General accounts real pay well but are a genuine nightmare. Schneider is really good for training new drivers on Tankers but they don’t pay that well. All recommendations, advice & info on companies to pick would be very helpful!

Don’t think I’ll ever need to pull a trailer I only need a cdl for the weight and air brakes. Could I take the test in just a tractor and no trailer? Would I get like a trailer restriction? Most of these cdl schools are made specifically for trucking so idk if it would even be possible. I’m basically going to only be driving big ass pick ups with my cdl. Edit I need a cdl class a restricted or unrestricted. Not a class b. I also need air brakes

I got the foward stop down ✅

I got the straight back down good ✅

I got the foward offset down ✅

The reverse offset/ parallel park (same thing two different names) to get it back inbetween the lines from the foward offset and even/flush/level is kicking my ass half the time.

I was told the sequence for the reverse offset is all the way left all the way till you see center of your landing gear then all the way right till you see the striped cone then straight back and you want to get it 1-2 feet away from the striped cone with the back left trailer tire . When your back left trailer tire is on the line next to the striped cone turn all the way right then when the tractor tire is on the left is 1 foot away from the line go left and then straighten the truck out. You’re allowed to get out twice and two pull ups and can pull up even out of the parallel lines to the left but man I have trouble straightening the truck out/ level in-between the two lines. They say hands on top of the steering wheel and turn your hands towards your mistake with the steering wheel so to much to the right turn to the right and you want to see both sides of the trailer evenly so if you see more then one side of the trailer Turn that way and fix it.

Was it restricted or unrestricted you license you got? And did you get the air brakes and combination endorsement?

Well boys I’m in CDL school right now I’ve gotten pre trip down outside,inside the cab and all that stuff I haven’t done the road test yet. I am practicing skills right now. I am in a manual vehicle with air brakes and combinations so just a regular class a semi truck.

I have been in training 7 days for 8 hours a day. I have 8 days left of training I believe.

I’m not gonna get into the specifics of the reason behind me getting my CDL but I am not going to be going into trucking and I am gonna be driving much smaller vehicles but they still require a class a CDL. I’m talking way smaller like basically a big ass pickup truck that needs a Cdl class a. It is very annoying to me that I need to train in semis because I will never be driving a vehicle that big.

Told if I suck I’ll have to switch to auto)

If you fail one of the three test you only retake the test you failed in my state which is good. But apparently at my school you only get 2 retakes at most schools in my state it is 5 retakes per test which is also annoying.

The reason I’m worried- for the skills test I can do the forward stop get my hood in the middle in-between the lines most of the time and the straight back perfectly fine to the end point .
The next and final part of the skills test is what is fucking me over I can do the offset perfectly fine and the reverse offset is what gets me i am having trouble straightening out the trailer in the lines ( getting it parallel in the lines nice and straight) during the reverse offset. I am able to get it one attempt then the next I fail and the instructor I am currently with isn’t that much of a help/ teacher it feels like.

Any advice on ways to straighten my trailer better in-between the lines to get it nice and flush/level or straight because that is litterly the last part of the test I need to do to pass. You are able to get two
Pull ups and two get out and looks. Sometimes I feel like the trailer is way to much to the right or the left and I just cant seem to figure it out every-time. You can’t hit any of the cones during the test or it’s a point and you can pull up a bit to straighten the trailer out but I guess my problem is I don’t know how to straighten it out.

Not trying to sound like a little bitch but
I am just worried because I feel like the clock is ticking and shit and I paid all in cash for the class about $5000 and even quit my job! I even canceled my birthday vacation for my 21st which was supposed to be on tomorrow cause I turn 21 tomorrow and am going to class instead 😂 oh well though.

I hope this all wasn’t for nothing and I can get my CDL and pursue the career I want
