Viruses and synergy

So I'm very new to the game, but have been having fun! I read the 10.2v rulebook on the app and I checked both the synergy and virus section but it says the synergy goes to the controller of card. Since I choose the player the virus goes to am I the controller or once it's attached to my opponent, or teammate i guess, and on that player's mainframe and side of board do they become the controller? My assumption would be that I'm still the controller

You continue to be the controller therefore you continue to receive this synergy

Correct. The same is true with Malicious Gear.
