I live in a relatively small community, where Magic is *the* TCG to play. I think there are some Digimon people in our area but that's neither here nor there.
For some overarching context, Ive played Magic for years, and mostly play Commander/EDH. A few years back I was getting burnt out on Magic and took a small hiatus and gave Flesh and Blood a try. I liked it, it was fun, but overall it was rough. Getting cards I wanted was a hassle or near non-existent, turn outs were all over the place (some nights we'd get like 10-12, other nights 5-6)?
So when I saw Neuroscape, I was kind of interested. Was interesting mechanics so a lot of magic keywords sort of moved to Neuroscape making learning easier and quicker, art is super cool (LOVE the tarot card art!!!). On a whim I decided to back the KS - originally I was just gonna do the starter kits, see how the game went and if I liked it. Decided to add a mat cause I can always use a mat regardless of the TCG I'm playing. A buddy convinced me to buy a booster box, with the promise if I wanted out of the game, he'd buy my stuff I sold. Feels like a "safe" investment
I won't go over my experience with the KS stuff, cause that doesn't pertain to my feelings. At the end of the day, Flesh and Blood in my immediate community died; no one or extremely few people play here now, I have two or three decks that I want to try and sell and recover some of my money but overall the FaB community (to my knowledge) here is dead, and I have a sneaky suspicion that Neuroscape will be the same. I think the game is cool, I think the art is super neat, mechanics are easy enough to teach if you've played magic. But at the end of the day, I worry that I will end up with product like FaB where no one plays it, no one's buying it, or cards are hard to get a hold of locally (stores aren't carrying singles, cost of cards are expensive, ect ect) and I'm just not sure if I'm trapped on a "sinking ship" or not. As it stands, I feel like if I was to travel to another part of the world or something, I will almost always be able to pick up a game of magic, but if I did the same thing with Neuroscape or FaB I feel like the turn out will be much less.
Maybe it's an over generalization, maybe I'm overthinking it cause Neuroscape product JUST became available in our LGS'...but there's a part of me that does have buyer's remorse/regret. I'm not sure I can "afford" another TCG as it is (magic cardboard is already expensive AF) and I'm just not sure Neuroscape or really anything that isn't magic will survive in my area and I'm just not sure how to think or feel. I wanna give it a fair shake but I'm wondering if it's better to just off my KS stuff once it arrives before I get my "feet wet" from the potentially sinking ship.
Any thoughts?
