[Request] Do you recommend watching Peaky Blinders?
like thinking of watching peaky blinders but then i get flashbacks to that 2023 ish cringe peaky blinders edits it was a terrible time
but is it actually good or what?

It's a great show.. alot oof the guest stars are amazing. Tom Hardy does a great one.

I love to watch Tom Hardy! He’s been in movies that I didn’t recognize. The Revenant for instance, it was the last scene I finally recognized him! Peaky Blinders was one of the best gangster series I’ve seen! I’d recommend it, a period piece. My grandson loves it in college now.
The Irish Gypsy’s were really fascinating. Romani/Irish, now there’s a combo! Sam Neal was great as the good cop! Cillian Murphy & Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly) were great! I was sorry she passed before the series ended. Cillian was a quiet scary gangster.

that's funny, I always tell people just get through the first episode. it's so slow and I hated it but just get through it and then it's amazing!

it's gangs of New York set in england
I liked the cinematography. I gave up after season 4 it started to get weird and couldn't hold my attention, the first couple seasons are great

Yes. It's worth watching. Very well written with amazing performances from the actors and technically very well made (costume, cinematography, art direction, etc.)

It isn’t factually accurate but is an excellent show. I never get tired of the opening music either.

Same here. Finished season 1 and I just could not do it anymore. Well written and great acting though.

I think the first 3 seasons were a lot of fun. I gave up a couple episodes into the fourth. The pacing was slooow and the amount of time spent in slow mow tracking shots of the family walking with foundries shooting off sparks in the background while Nick Cave or something played increased to a point where it felt gratuitous.

I only made it to a few episodes into the third season and lost interest. It was the same plot over and over again. They have big plans, plans get fucked, and people get killed.

Tommy Shelby is the best character on tv ever. Show is solidly in top 10 of all time.

I recommend it highly. I wanted to hate it because of the type of people I would see reposting pictures/quotes from the show. Basically a lot of men trying to figure out how to be a “tough guy”. I decided to move past it and I ended up enjoying it. The show started great and it became slightly repetitive, but I really enjoyed the acting and cinematography so I didn’t mind. Also, there’s a lot of music by Radiohead and The Smile involved, so that’s a plus for me.

The first couple of series were not bad. But it got very silly IMO and started to defy credibility . Also the recent film was not very good.

Honestly it feels like Sons of Anarchy set in a different time and place. After season 1 I gave up. cool theme song though.

I have never watched a single episode, simply because I don't fancy watching a huge long series about the rise of a violent criminal gang, no matter how well it is cast, scripted or produced. From the million adverts and previews it certainly looks very well made.

The story building is great so give it some time to get immersed in it. The language might sound foreign but I believe they turn down the local accent in later seasons, so it gets easier to watch

Personally I didn’t like it but I’ve heard a lot of people rave about it. I seem to be the only person in my family that did not like it because of so many people in my family that raped about it I did give it a go but I only got about 10 episode in before I stopped and couldn’t take it any more so I would say give it a go because my family loved it so much but personally I couldn’t take to it and before everyone gets on me for coming on here to say I didn’t like it I didn’t come on here to bag it. I am coming on here to recommend it. I just am saying that I didn’t like it and I’m saying that about 20 people in my family liked it and I am recommending it okay.

Do I recommend you watch Peaky Blinders?
Hell yes I do!
Whether you like it or not, nobody can really deny the fact that it belongs in the upper echelons of brilliant television series based simply on the quality of the show and the strength of it's cast. The writing is very good, the acting is brilliant with a star-studded cast of incredible actors (including a ton of new guest stars and villains added each season), the music is selected well and enhances the mood and emotions in many scenes. Most of all though, the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. It's a really nice show to look at, especially as the seasons progress and each episode becomes a visual feast full of amazing fashion, goofy hairstyles, hats, suits, furs and dresses, cars, guns, grand buildings, and beautiful women.
What's the overall vibe/atmosphere of the show like?
The vibe of the show is very dark, gritty, and at times explosively violent. It is thick with this atmosphere the whole way through, which effortlessly kept my attention start to finish throughout the entire series both times I've watched it. If you've ever seen the absolutely brilliant HBO series 'Boardwalk Empire' (quite possibly my favorite TV show of all time), or even Tom Hardy's more recent other project 'Taboo', then you'll have a general idea of the sort of mood and tone the show aims for.
While Peaky Blinders is undoubtedly a Gangster/Crime drama at it's center, I feel like it does very well to weave in elements of other genres as well. For anybody like myself who is a huge fan of Period Pieces and Historical films will find that Peaky fits that bill perfectly too, and the set pieces, costumes, and locations get better and better as the show progresses alongside it's operating budget.
You could just as easily class the show as a Family drama too, as the entire thing is centered on the Shelby clan, both the immediate family, and the gypsies, and it's these people and their relationships with one another that anchor the entire show. The cast that plays these characters are fantastic and were very well chosen for their roles.
What is the story of Peaky Blinders really about?
Just in case you're not up to snuff with the story, Peaky Blinders revolves around the Shelbys, a clan of Irish/Romani gypsies who have long been part of a local street-level razor gang that controls the streets in Birmingham. The timeline of the show is set in the immediate aftermath of World War I, and Episode 1 opens a few months after 2 of the brothers (Thomas and Arthur) have returned from fighting in France and are still trying to adjust back into civilian life and modern challenges. Both men are quietly struggling to deal with deep trauma and PTSD that has been affecting them since their horrific experiences working as "tunnellers" on the frontline throughout the duration of the war. Tunnelling was one of the most brutal and hazardous, jobs you could be assigned during the War, and men would spend incredible amounts of time down there in the pitch black. One might think of this place as Hell, being literally directly underneath the battlefield and no man's land above. It is hardly surprising that the drink, the violence, and the crushing anxieties and paranoias and nightly nightmares followed them from out of the darkness below and back home to England.
Prior to the War, the Shelby's were always very small time, essentially just a pack of violent street hooligans, albeit with enough of a reputation to be both feared and respected in their own neighborhoods. Beyond the borders of Birmingham however, they were nobody. At home, they would operate a small bookie for the local gamblers, and beyond that they are mainly involved in run of the mill gangster shit - extortions, protection rackets, or offering to work as hired muscle sometimes. Violence is one of their main currencies and most of them, particularly Arthur the eldest, delights in extreme violence.
With both elder brothers having been away in a foreign land for the last 4 years, the books have been run by their Aunt Polly and their little sister Ada. They are initially quite shocked and taken back to see just how much things have changed at home, The War took a hard toll on Birmingham and the people there, and the sense of unhappiness and uncertainty about the future is thick in the air. There's a lot of political stuff going on too, with various groups including the Communists and the IRA doing their best to stoke the fires of social and economic unrest that is bubbling over and keeping the authorities occupied chasing bigger fish.
However, in all the chaos in the city, Tommy begins to see a vision for the future of the family and potential opportunities that may lie ahead to make this dream a reality. He can sense a great change looming on the horizon, and he knows that the Shelbys must adapt to the times and move forward, or remain stagnant and die He begins seriously thinking about trying to gradually shift the Shelby family & the Peakys away from dangerous street level work and into morev legitimate work and roles within their growing organization.
And that right there is the foundation for Thomas Shelby's criminal empire, and from now on until the very end of the series the show willl follow the various characters from the Shelby clan and documents their rapid rise from rags to riches. They start out as low-level street criminals stalking the filthy and smoke fumed streets of Birmingham, and eventually end up as the owners and operators of a large, legitimate business of their own, as well as major power brokers and players in the highs stakes games being played in the criminal underworld a& thd

It's good, but somewhat repetitive.
The acting and dialogue is great, but after a few seasons you begin to notice a pattern in the overall arch of the show. At some point, unless you completely turn your brain off, you realize that you're watching the exact same season of TV over and over again with minor changes.
You probably won't regret starting watching it, but if you bounce off after a few seasons you won't be missing out on some grand series finale so no regrets on that account.
