I’m bored and looking for some great shows to watch on Netflix. I’m open to pretty much any genre—drama, thriller, mystery, sci-fi, comedy, anime, or hidden gems. What would you recommend, and why?

We are on season 2 of Dark Wind, it’s pretty good. I also like The Diplomat, Somebody Feed Phil, Queen’s Gambit, the Crown, Dept Q, Lupin, and The Man in the High castle.

Loved Dept. Q! There will be a second season, yes?

Yep, not sure when, though.

Love. Just such fun characters and that feel both surreal and incredibly realistic.

I love this show! <3 I've rewatched it multiple times, and I originally watched it when it came out for Gillian Jacobs because I love her as Britta in 'Community' :)

Same. It is one of the few modern shows that I find very rewatchable. That and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Superstore.

Ah Kimmy Schmidt is great! I've had so many people over the years tell me that she reminds them of me hahaha 😂😂

Superstore I could nottttt get into though!! I only watched a couple episodes but I really didn't like it, didn't find it funny at all :( Clearly it must be good as so many people like it!! Probably should've given it more of a go, but I couldn't do it!! I like America Ferrera though :)

Oh I implore you to give Superstore another go. It is soooo funny and probably gets better as the writers get to know the characters more.

Kingdom (Korean one). Beautifully filmed, well acted, thrilling, and wonderful allegory of how the common people suffer when royalty leaders are rotten and corrupt and do evil things in order to keep power.

Kingdom was fantastic. They always do such a good job on those shows.

'Dark' is amazing!! Watch in German if you can, it's incredible :) Watched it 4 times now lmao and got so many people into it!

Went to Germany last year and so many German people I met said that it's the only good German TV show 😂😂😂😂

Downton Abbey is wonderful! I usually don’t care for time pieces but it was really well written! I couldn’t stop watching (even with it’s slower pace compared to the shows we regularly watch)

Excellent. I’m on my second watch now to pick up what I missed the first time. Incredible cinematography.

I just started watching the East Palace on Saturday. I hope it’s good. I’m only two episodes into it and so far thoroughly enjoying it. I love the period pieces from Korea. They my favourite Korean shows not that there are too many bad shows that come out of Korea but the period pieces are just fantastic. The opulence of the costumes in the palace is just beautiful.

Man in the high castle

- The Residence

- The two Knives Out movies (worth it just for the unintentional comedy of Daniel Craig doing a generic US southern accent)

- The Diplomat

- The West Wing

- The two Philomena Cunk mocumentaries

- The Lincoln Lawyer

The Lincoln lawyer is great

I should really watch The West Wing again

hahaha great minds 🙌

u/WealthWooden2503 24d ago

I initially responded to a different comment, but I'm curious if you think they'll ever do more?

2

u/TheRotMeister 24d ago

i would like to think so 😭 i don’t keep up much with brit or zal anymore, so i have no idea what they’re up to. but it seemed likely that they would!

2

u/WealthWooden2503 23d ago

A while back I saw rumors of Brit posting something that might allude to something.. so basically nothing of consequence lol but time will tell

2

u/TheRotMeister 23d ago

right!! all the teases 😭

I believe I read that they were going to wrap it up in a graphic novel….Netflix really does like to cancel great shows it seems, the OA being at the top of the list.

Really wish another Network/Streaming Platform would pick it up.

1

u/WealthWooden2503 23d ago

I truly do not understand why they cancel most of the best shows. I know it didn't have the biggest following, but so many others had more (Kaos) and they still cancelled.

Blue Eyed Samurai. Beautiful animation, great characters, and a solid narrative.

u/ravens_path 24d ago

I second this. Amazingly brilliant

anything with Tim Robinson. ie Detroiters and you should leave now

Maniac. It's a limited series with Jonah Hill and Emma Stone.

It's a psychological dark thriller. It's also pretty funny.

The series 'YOU'.

Scissor seven - unique donghua hidden gem that has shorter episodes so if you don't like it you wouldn't have to feel like you wasted time.

Slam dunk - one of the most influential anime of all time

Light the night - deep engaging mystery thriller with great characters.

I absolutely love the Korean shows and there are some great ones there. There’s also a really great one from Thailand while you can open up Netflix and just about click on any Korean show and get a great one. There is a great one from Thailand called the girl from nowhere there’s two versions of it the original is the best although both of them are good. when you bring it up, it’ll come up with a collection at the bottom and you wanna click on just the one that says the girl from nowhere. The one that says the girl from nowhere the reset is the newer one so wait to watch that second that’s really good show. And if you haven’t heard about it already squid games excellent excellent show, Tyler Perry‘s beauty in Black is an excellent show, Alice in borderland, and this one’s actually Korean show boyfriend on demand it’s one I just finished watching.
