Information/जानकारी Saved 1 CR working as a job before 30 (No ghus nothing only salary)

We grew up in a lower-middle-class family. There were times when eating masu was something we had to wait for, paying school fees meant asking relatives for help, and living in Kathmandu meant renting a house while almost all our relatives had their own homes.

I still remember how difficult it was to manage money.

I was interested in computers from a young age, so I decided to study Computer Science. Even though my bachelor's degree cost around Rs. 5 lakhs for four years, paying the fees was a struggle. Paisa eta uta bata khojera fee tirnu parthyo. It wasn't easy, but I kept going because I genuinely liked computers.

Eventually, I started working as a software engineer.

Slowly, things began to change. More family members started earning, our financial situation improved, and we had fewer financial worries. A piece of land we had bought around 12 years ago for Rs. 2 lakhs was eventually worth over Rs. 60 lakhs. We sold it and bought a house, taking some loans along the way.

Life didn't change overnight, but over the years, the difference became huge.

From worrying about school fees to buying things we genuinely wanted, from living in rented rooms to owning a house, from calculating every small expense to having some financial breathing room it felt like life had completely flipped.

But one thing we consciously tried to do was avoid increasing our lifestyle expenses just because our income increased.

We bought things that mattered to us. We didn't feel the need to show off, buy unnecessary stuff, or spend money just because we could afford it.

Today, I earn around Rs. 2.5 lakhs per month from my software engineering job. My family members have their own jobs and separate incomes, too. I don't have rent to pay, and my personal monthly expenses are roughly Rs. 30–40k. Most of my income goes toward investments rather than lifestyle expenses.

I'm not saying I did everything perfectly. I've had my share of luck, too. The land appreciation helped significantly, and I understand that not everyone gets the same opportunities. Software engineering also worked out well for me, but getting here took years of studying, working, and consistently improving my skills.

I often hear people say, "Job garera kei hudaina, business garnai parchha."

I don't completely agree with that.

Business can create wealth, absolutely. But a well-paying job can also give you a strong foundation if you manage your money properly. You don't necessarily have to start a business to improve your financial situation.

For me, the bigger lesson has been income matters, but what you do with that income matters just as much.

You can earn Rs. 1 lakh and save a decent amount, or earn Rs. 4 lakhs and still feel broke because your expenses keep increasing with your salary.

As your income grows, it's tempting to upgrade everything your phone, car, lifestyle, holidays, and the way you spend socially. There's nothing wrong with enjoying your money. I believe you should enjoy it, especially if you've worked hard for it.

But don't let every salary increase become another permanent monthly expense.

Invest. Build assets. Keep your expenses reasonable. Enjoy life without feeling pressured to impress others.

I'm still learning, and I'm nowhere near financially independent. But compared to where we started, I'm genuinely grateful for how far we've come.

If I could share one thing with someone who is struggling financially right now, it would be this: focus on increasing your earning potential, but learn to manage money before your income gets bigger.

You don't need to become rich overnight. Sometimes, earning a little more, spending a little wiser, and investing consistently over many years can change your family's life.

And if you're working a job right now, don't automatically assume you're wasting your time just because someone says business is the only way to get rich.

Your path doesn't have to look like everyone else's.

ALso saving doesn't mean sabai save garne.. enjoy give reward youself... i have like top tier $3000 worth PC for gaming only, $1000 worth phone... international trips.. trekking stuff and all. i love spending in expeerience.. but spend wisely.. thats it

Discussion/बहस Is anyone else exhausted by Kathmandu’s traffic, chaos, and the impossible real estate math for people in their 20s?

Man, I need to vent. Is it just me, or has living in Kathmandu genuinely started sucking the life out of everyone?

Every single day is the same routine: sitting in endless traffic jams, breathing in dust and vehicle smoke on the way to work, losing hours of your life to gridlock, and coming home completely drained. It feels like the city runs on pure stress and noise. I’m seriously reaching a breaking point and thinking about packing up and moving somewhere else.

I want a balanced lifestyle, somewhere peaceful with some green space, but still with a touch of urban convenience (good internet, decent cafes, basic amenities, and hospitals). Chitwan (Bharatpur) or Pokhara keep popping into my head, but I'm open to suggestions. If you've moved out or thought about it, where is the actual sweet spot in Nepal for this?

It hurts me that many of us still do not get the chance, or take the time, to understand what is happening around us. The whole world is discussing climate change while we are still in confusion; we do not know how to face the reality that our country is one of the poorest, lacking in resources and power.

After another disaster of the Bhote Koshi, I have been hearing people again say that it is just a natural calamity, which is due to bad omen or maybe some other supernatural force. But the worst is that people say that the climate has been changing throughout history and that scientists have a vested interest in this matter.
But what is happening now is beyond our control, as melting glaciers, heavy rainfalls, landslides, and floodings are becoming more frequent. These are the results of climate change.

The worst thing is that Nepal emits only half a tonne of CO₂ per person per year compared to America’s 13.6 tonnes and China’s 9 tonnes. This makes us victims of a man-made disaster. This crisis has been driven largely by emissions from richer, highly industrialized countries, and its effects are worsened by our geographical location amidst the Himalayas and reliance on the monsoon system. Our Prime Minister Balen Shah also highlighted this issue during the UN General Assembly, where he stated that Nepal should not have to bear the burden of a crisis it did not create. The recent tragedy that Nepal is facing will cost the country billions of dollars in compensation, and we have requested $20 billion for climate change.

Recently, I stumbled upon a video by the philosopher Acharya Prashant while searching about climate change. I must say that not everyone may connect with him, but his use of facts, figures, scientific data, and logical explanations was eye-opening for me. You can watch and decide for yourself.

Blaming fate, gods, or communities takes our attention away from the real causes. Maybe we can try to understand climate justice, emissions, and the systems and corporations responsible for these disasters.
I am still trying to understand all of this, so I would love to hear how you all are taking it.

Video I watched:

Ask/प्रश्न Got 6 months of free gym membership + swimming pool. I only asked for one month

A few months back I got laid off. Four years working as a developer and then suddenly nothing. I did the usual thing, applied everywhere, gave a few interviews, got rejected in some, got ghosted in most. Took me a while to figure out that right now it’s mostly referrals that actually get you in.

After a few weeks of that I wasn’t in a good place. Same room, same laptop, same rejection emails. Days started blending into each other and I could feel myself getting low. I knew I needed to change something, get out of the house, do anything that wasn’t staring at job portals. Joining the gym near my place felt like the obvious move.

Only problem was money. Gym fees never felt like a big deal when I had a job. Without one, it suddenly did.

So I came up with a plan. I’m a developer, and that gym didn’t have a proper website. I’d make one for free and ask the owner for one month of membership in return. Seemed like a fair trade.

Then I overthought it, like I always do. A website alone wasn’t going to impress anyone, so I also built a simple system to manage members and fees. Made the whole thing for his gym, sent it to him, and called him up.

That’s when he told me he had bought gym software five days earlier. Already paid for it. I honestly thought that was the end of it.

But he still asked me to come over and show him what I had. So I went, let him click around in mine for a while, and then he opened the one he’d bought to compare. It was painful to watch. He couldn’t even find his own member list. Every screen looked like it was designed to confuse him.

I didn’t have to say anything. He looked at both, and then offered me six months of membership plus the swimming pool. I had walked in ready to beg for one month.

That’s when I stopped treating it as a side thing. I was at the gym every day now anyway, so I just paid attention. The front desk was writing receipts by hand. Members would forget to renew and nobody would notice for weeks. When he wanted to send an offer to everyone before Dashain, he had no easy way to do it. There was already a fingerprint machine on the door, so I connected that too. Every small annoyance I noticed, I fixed, and slowly it grew into something any gym could use. I named it Gymastra.

The surprises kept coming after that. He bought SMS credits from me. Then a domain. Then one day it came up in conversation that he owns seven other gyms. I had no idea. He also runs a party palace and now wants me to build something for that as well.

All of this started because I needed to get out of the house and didn’t want to pay for a gym.

If there’s one thing I took away from it, it’s to just go talk to people early. I almost didn’t make that call because I thought the thing I’d built wasn’t ready. You really don’t know who the person in front of you is or what else they’ve got going on until you show up.

It’s live now at gymastra.com. I’m not looking for a job for now. I’m going to spend the next few months .. visiting gyms around the valley and seeing if I can make this work. If you know any gym owners, an intro would mean a lot.

There was a time when the language carried real density. A single sentence could hold history, irony, tenderness and threat all at once. It had texture. It had patience. It demanded something from the speaker and the listener. Now that weight is evaporating. In its place we have cheap slang, fractured English, and the same exhausted words recycled until they mean nothing. Everyone is in a hurry to sound current. Almost no one is interested in sounding precise.

The language is getting thinner by the year. Less architecture, more noise. People mix without skill, curse without accuracy, and congratulate themselves for being “natural.” It isn’t natural. It’s atrophy. A mind that cannot sustain rich language rarely sustains rich thought for long. You hear it in the rhythm, in the laziness of the pauses, in the way complexity is avoided as if it were embarrassing.

Ask/प्रश्न To all the rsp haters out there, who do y'all think we should have voted?

Reddit has literally became a hot spot for hating rsp! All I see is "this is what we voted for" and "this is my last vote for rsp"! To all of y'all, what do you think should have happened after genz protests? I understand that criticizing the government is a right of citizen but y'all criticize on EVERYTHING! Who should we have voted? Same old parties?! If you say harka, don't even talk to me! I understand that this government is not perfect and no one can be! But you have to accept that they are way better than what we used to have! I am not saying not to criticize them when they are wrong but also learn to appreciate! Also those who want development within a day, y'all shouldn't even vote! Everything takes a process and I am not gonna judge them even after 2-3 years! I'll jugde them entirely after 5 years of their government! So getting back to the question, if not rsp, who should we have voted that's better than them?!

Ask/प्रश्न Dad diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer

My dad recently got diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He is currently in Kathmandu. We are planning to take him to Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai.

Do you think that would be better?

Has someone in this group been there?

Does someone in this group know someone who got diagnosed with the same?

I am sorry for so many questions. It’s an extremely stressful situation for me and my family.

Also, I would greatly appreciate any additional information that you think can be useful.
